The Last Horizon

2067 Alpha Centauri System

The faint glow from Alpha Centauri's three stars reflected off the shimmering, mirror-like panels of the α-outpost, creating the illusion of a fourth, flickering flame in the sky. This outpost, located on the edge of the Centauri system, served as a critical checkpoint for the Galactical Peace Force (GPF) - a neutral, interstellar body tasked with maintaining order and preventing large-scale conflict between the various factions that now spanned the galaxy.

After the devastation caused by the Sentinel Military Bots, a catastrophic product of Earth's two warring coalitions, the GPF had been created as a symbol of hope and reconciliation. They were humanity's peacekeepers, acting as a galactic police force to avoid further destruction.

Above the outpost, the GPF Vyom-15 approached from the depths of space. The sleek battleship was a beacon of the GPF's strength and commitment to peace, equipped not only for combat but also for rapid response and negotiation. It had just completed a patrol spanning three lightyears, monitoring potential threats in the Alpha Centauri system. Onboard, Commander Kiran prepared to dock.

Kiran was a veteran, though his appearance often defied his decades of service. His slender frame and sharp, calculating eyes seemed at odds with the heavy, battle-ready uniform he wore. With black hair streaked silver at the temples, his presence was more that of a statesman than a soldier - yet few in the GPF could match his tactical mind.

As the docking clamps secured the Vyom-15, Kiran disembarked, followed by his crew. The security officers of the outpost saluted in the GPF tradition, arms held one above other. Kiran returned the gesture before proceeding to the outpost's headquarters. He had a mission report that could change the future of the entire galaxy.

"Zeta-67 reports to duty. I request an audience with Alpha," Kiran said to the receptionist upon arrival.

The young officer tapped a few buttons on her holographic console, contacting the higher-ups. "Head to FG-3, Sir," she replied.

Kiran proceeded through the series of security checks, each checkpoint tightening as he approached the inner sanctum. The α-outpost had many layers, both in structure and purpose. While outwardly it looked like a typical docking and monitoring station, it held some of the most advanced defense systems in the galaxy, as well as strategic facilities for the GPF's leadership.

Finally, he reached FG-3. The doors slid open, revealing the circular room dominated by a large, round table, its surface illuminated with a detailed holographic map of the Alpha Centauri system. Each of the system's planets and space stations pulsed with data points - trade routes, strategic locations, and regions of tension.

Around the table sat five other officers. These were the best of the GPF - fellow commanders, each one battle-hardened and experienced in maintaining the fragile peace that spanned the galaxy. At the head of the table sat Alpha, their superior - a seasoned leader with a stoic face and an unflinching commitment to their mission.

Kiran took his seat, filling the sixth and final chair.

"Commander Kiran," Alpha began, his voice steady, "we've been awaiting your report. What's the situation with Proxima Centauri B?"

Kiran leaned forward, his expression serious. "Our investigation team has confirmed that the Republic of Proxima Centauri B is aligning with the Western Coalition. They're the fifth planet to shift their allegiance. Intelligence indicates that they're preparing to take part in a full-scale Galactic War."

The tension in the room grew palpable. Each member of the GPF had sworn an oath to prevent another war like the one that had nearly wiped out Earth decades ago. The Sentinel Bots had ravaged cities, turned humanity's greatest achievements into smoldering ruins, and led to the formation of the GPF in the aftermath. They were peacekeepers, but that didn't mean they were unaccustomed to battle.

"Proxima Centauri B's participation would tip the balance in favor of the Coalition," Kiran continued. "They have a vast fleet and advanced weapons systems. If they join the conflict, it will be nearly impossible to maintain peace in this sector."

Alpha's gaze hardened as he studied the holographic display. "What's your proposed course of action, Commander?"

Kiran brought up a new series of glowing blue lines on the map. "We have two options. The first: we launch a preemptive strike on their key defense installations. A targeted operation to cripple their military capabilities before they can fully mobilize."

One of the fellow commanders, Lirae, a sharp-witted strategist, frowned. "That would violate our neutrality, Commander. The GPF doesn't act as a military force - we're peacekeepers. A direct attack could push the entire system into chaos."

Kiran nodded. "I'm aware. That's why I'm proposing a second, more diplomatic approach. We send a covert team to Proxima Centauri B. There's a faction within their government that hasn't yet committed to the war. If we can reach them, we might be able to broker a deal and prevent their alignment with the Coalition."

"Diplomacy hasn't worked in years with these factions," muttered Velasquez, another commander, known for his skepticism. "The Western Coalition's leaders aren't ones to negotiate in good faith. It's a gamble."

"It is," Kiran admitted, "but it's a gamble we have to take. If we do nothing, this system will be engulfed in war, and it will spread. You know what happens next. Civilian lives will be lost, and we'll see another chain reaction like the one that started with the Sentinel Bots. We can't afford that again."

Alpha remained silent for a moment, eyes scanning the map. The weight of the decision hung over the room. Finally, he spoke.

"Kiran, you've always been our best at these operations. You'll lead the diplomatic mission. Gather your team and make contact with the Proxima leadership. We'll give you limited military support in case things turn sour, but remember - our priority is peace, not war."

Kiran straightened in his chair. "Understood, sir."

Unknown-Year Unknown-Location

The Vyom-15 slipped through the stars like a shadow, its engines humming quietly as it approached the outer limits of Proxima Centauri B. Kiran stood on the bridge, watching the distant planet come into view. His mind ran through the briefing over and over, anticipating every possible scenario, every potential betrayal.

Suddenly, alarms blared. Enemy vessels decloaked from the dark void, surrounding the Vyom-15. It was an ambush, perfectly executed.

"All hands to battle stations!" Kiran shouted, gripping the rail as the ship shuddered under the first barrage of laser fire.

Explosions rocked the hull, and Kiran knew immediately that this was no ordinary skirmish. They had walked into a trap.

"Commander, we're surrounded! Their ships are blocking every escape vector!" his tactical officer called out, panic creeping into his voice.

Kiran's jaw clenched as he quickly assessed the situation. They were outnumbered and outgunned, but the Vyom-15 was no ordinary ship. They had one chance.

"Prepare to initiate the wormhole generator," Kiran ordered. "We're jumping out of this system."

The bridge crew worked frantically to comply, but before they could, the view screen flashed with an incoming transmission. The face of a Proxima Coalition leader filled the screen, his expression cold and calculating.

"Commander Kiran of the GPF," the leader sneered, "you've made a fatal mistake coming here. Surrender your ship, or watch your crew burn."

Kiran's eyes hardened as he stared at the transmission. He knew this might happen. But there was no turning back.

"Activate the wormhole drive," Kiran ordered, his voice steady. "We're getting out of here."

The stars outside the Vyom-15 twisted and bent as the ship's experimental drive activated, creating a rift in space-time. In a flash, they were gone, hurtling through the void at unimaginable speed.

But Kiran knew this was only the beginning. The peace of the galaxy hung by a thread, and the GPF would have to fight harder than ever to keep the flames of war from consuming them all.

---

The survival of peace rested on the shoulders of Commander Kiran - and failure was not an option.
