The second hand was ticking on the big clock in the living room, and in the rhythm of that second hand, Mrs. Anderson was walking around the room back and forth. William Anderson was sitting on the couch and reading one of his favorite books, but his patience was gradually fading away.
"Dina! Maybe you will calm yourself already and sit down? Why torment yourself with nervous tension? Do you want to embarrass the girl with your behavior or what?"
"William! I do not understand, how can you be so calm?! This is her!" Dina Anderson did not understand the restraint of her husband. Elena's name has been known in their family for a long time, and now, finally, the owner of this name was supposed to appear here from minute to minute. But what was worst of all, David's mother rudely treated her while talking on the phone, which she later regretted very much.
"Dear, and if she does not like me? I was so harsh with her on the phone at that time, but I didn't know it was her! Oh God, David was so angry then," Dina sighed and sat down on the sofa next to her husband.
"If you and Daniel didn't get into his business, it wouldn't have happened," William commented on his wife's words, turning the page of the book melancholically.
"Oh, you went on your fishing trip anyway, and for two weeks you were unavailable. So you better not raise this topic," Dina squealed at him, as an unexpected doorbell forced her to jump on the spot.
Mrs. Anderson hurried to open the door, "David, welcome ba-"
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Anderson," the radiant smile of a young girl met her on the threshold instead of her son.
"Aw, Rosalie, good afternoon. Sorry, I'm waiting for the arrival of my son, so I was confused when I saw you. Did you want something?" Dina asked her neighbor, who was the youngest daughter of the head of a large construction company in London.
"Should your son come? David?" As soon as the girl saw the affirmative nod, her eyes lit up even brighter, "Oh, how great! I have not seen him for more than six months. I baked cookies and came to treat you. Say hello to him from me, have him try them too."
"Yes, of course, I will surely tell him. Sorry, I have to go back to the kitchen to finish making the dinner," Dina hurried to show off the unexpected guest.
"Please forgive me for taking your time then. Have a good day, Mrs. Anderson," the girl turned and headed for the gate. At that moment, a car drove up to the house, and David got out of it.
'Wow, I just got here on time,' the girl thought to herself and happily rushed around the neck of the young man, "Oh, David! I am so glad to see you! How are you?" She kissed him on the cheek and pressed herself against him so that he could distinctly feel every curve of her body.
The man did not expect such a sudden attack, but he immediately realized what to do and gently pushed the girl away from him,
"Rosalie, I am glad to see you. How is family, your father?"
Rosalie frowned slightly but did not show her displeasure, "Thank you, everything is fine. Maybe you will come to visit us after dinner? I'll treat you with tea." The girl narrowed her eyes and showed her most seductive smile, but David did not even notice her attempts to charm him.
He wanted to go around the car to open the door, but at that moment the door had clicked, and Elena got out of the vehicle. She looked at the couple standing opposite, and especially attentively at the girl who did not hesitate to cuddle up to her man.
David noticed the cold gaze of his girlfriend, and everything inside him fluttered. Was she really jealous? It was not like Elena, who always was restrained and reasonable.
Rosalie also studied the girl and her appearance. There was no make-up on her face, her hair was combed, but there was no hint of styling. As for clothes, hmm, regular jeans and a strange-sized shirt. Stop, is she wearing a men's shirt? The girl looked closer, and a feeling of annoyance boiled inside her. It was the same shirt that she presented to David for one of the holidays a couple of years ago, and he wore it only once or twice.
"Hello! I am David's neighbor. My name is Rosalie, and I am the daughter of the manager of the London Construction Holding. I'm sure you heard of that?"
Elena said nothing, walked around the car and stood next to David, "Nope, I hear about it for the first time," she answered indifferently.
Rosalie's face went dark immediately, but she could not afford to lose the mask of benevolence.
David decided to intervene in the conversation, "Rosalie, I am pleased to introduce you Elena. She is my-"
"Wife," Elena interrupted David and finished his sentence.
Next, there was a silent scene. Elena, with a haughty expression on her face, Rosalie with her mouth open in shock from what she heard, and David, with a smile past his ears, looking like a happy fool.
"Khem, yes, this is Elena, my wife," David confirmed her words. But Elena did not calm down on this,
"Elena Lee, the daughter of the head of Lee Pharmaceuticals. I'm sure you heard of that?" The girl introduced herself and grinned.
Lee Pharmaceuticals? What a silly question, did Rosalie hear about it? Yes, the whole world heard about this company! The girl realized that she would never cope with such an opponent.
"Oh, what am I doing? After all, I have to go home. Sorry, and it was nice to meet you," Rosalie hurried to say goodbye and walked quickly toward her home.
Elena sniffed and turned to David. The young man looked unusually pleased and stared at her with adoration.
"What are you smirking about?" She asked him, as if without even realizing what had happened.
"Nothing, I'm just very cheered today. I did not know that my "wife" was so charming when she is jealous," he grinned and winked playfully at Elena.
"What? When was I je-," the girl wanted to argue, but cut herself off in mid-sentence, since it was only now that she realized what she had done. Elena's cheeks turned bright red, "Khem, pretend you didn't see it, okay?"
"Ahahaha, no way, young lady!" David answered contentedly, hugged the girl by the waist and kissed her cheek, which was blushed with embarrassment, "It was too cute, my dear. But be sure of one thing: in my eyes, you have always been, and you will always be number one in every sense. So you don't even have to worry about such trifles as this one."
"Well, I understood everything," Elena said and followed David to the house when he squeezed her palm in his hand.
The young man went to the door and rang the bell. The door immediately opened, and a woman with a happy smile jumped out on the threshold, "David!" She wanted to hug her son but stopped herself when she saw the girl standing next to him.
Mrs. Anderson froze for a moment, and the next second she tightly hugged Elena first, instead of David,
"Welcome home, my girl. We have all been waiting for you for a long time."
Elena was confused by the unexpected warmth and care coming from the woman. She never had a mother, but for some reason, she realized that this is how a child feels when his mother hugs him.
The girl tried to restrain herself, so as not to cry, "Thank you," Elena replied quietly.
Dina patted the girl on the head, took her hand and dragged her into the house, completely forgetting about her son standing on the threshold.
David sighed, turned his head back and looked into the clear blue sky. A warm breeze ran through his hair, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath,
'What a wonderful day today,' the young man smiled, went into the house and closed the door behind him.
