Mona drew the curtains of the dressing room and I took a big breath in.
"Here goes."
Zaccheus' eyes turned darker as he looked at me appreciatively.
I saw myself in the long mirror and agreed that Zaccheus' choice was perfect with the violet dress. It was simple yet elegant, the embroidered bodice with tiny blue butterflies along the empire line accentuated my curves. It exuded a sense of sophistication in simplicity. I definitely could make this my own style.
Ignoring the glance from my husband who was grinning sheepishly like a school boy ogling a pretty lady openly for the first time, I turned around to check myself out in the mirror. Zaccheus murmured his appreciation like a very satisfied cat.
"Come here, my darling wife."
I felt a magnetic pull towards him and walked into his open arms.
"We are ready for dinner. Let's visit the Malabar now," he purred as he nuzzled his nose on the back of my neck, careful not to mess up my hairdo.
.......
"You walked just like a butterfly flying in the garden. Oh, my Butterfly Princess, you look splendid," Zaccheus' words made me blush.
Amy applied simple makeup on my face before we left the house. I did not want to be overly dolled up, too much of a good thing was not good.
As we travelled in silence to Malabar, I was lost in my thoughts. Zaccheus held my right hand tightly, as if I would disappear if he relaxed his grip.
It had been awhile since I left the entourage. Since I was the key to unlocking the cave entrance, they were awaiting my return.
I can't wait to see the familiar faces again and suddenly my face turned grim.
"A penny for your thought?" Zaccheus asked.
I looked up to him and stared into those beautiful eyes.
"How will they react to seeing me after I disappeared for so long? Not forgetting, getting married while I was gone?" I cocked my head to one side as I gauged his expression.
Zaccheus let out a hearty belly laugh. The limo pulled up the familiar facade of the Malabar.
My dashing husband walked over to my side of the car and opened the door for me.
"I am also the rightful descendant of one of the Forty Thieves. Only Jeff will care about the details. You don't owe him any explanation. Come, let's get going, my beautiful wife," he motioned for me to take his arm.
Taking a deep breath in, I felt apprehensive as I took his extended arm and stepped out, thinking: "Here goes nothing."
"Cassandra!!!! It is really you!!!"
One after another I was swarmed in hugs and kisses by the ladies and little girl.
"I miss you so much!
"Are you okay?
"I heard that something happened to you, are you really alright?
"I was so worried about you!
"Come see my new bracelet that father bought for me!
"You look so beautiful!!!
"Did you really get married!?!
"Why did you not invite us to your wedding!?!
They were all chattering at once.
"I thought that you trusted me with your secrets.
"I would have loved to be at your wedding.
"How sneaky of you to have gotten married without telling any of us!
"Is this handsome man your husband?
"I want to play with you, Cassandra!
"Can't you give her a break? She hasn't even stepped into the house!
"But we miss her so much!!!
"Cassandra you are finally here!!! Did you miss me!?!
Choking with emotions, I could not bring myself to answer or reply to any of them and could only stand there as my tears fell freely down my cheeks. Thank God Amy applied waterproof mascara on my eyes.
"I am so happy to be back here again," was all I could say after awhile.
Taking the cue, while brushing a strand of my hair from my wet eye, Zaccheus took over.
"Excuse us, ladies, we better get going inside the Malabar. I am Zaccheus, her husband," Zaccheus bowed slightly to the ladies, charming them with his gorgeous smile. Just like that the small crowd made way for us to enter the building.
"I swear some of them just melted when you smiled at them," I whispered into my husband's ears.
"But of course," he replied while keeping a straight face.
I gave a light giggle as we entered the dining room.
"How are you so familiar with the Malabar?" I asked. He entered the family quarters without much trouble and it looked like he knew his way around like the back of his hand.
"I own this place," he stated matter-of-factly.
"What!?!"
