Capítulo 4: The Hollow Man. [Do you believe In Destiny?]

Winter, Summer and Autumn solstice arrived and left. Time of Man waits for no one.

Days flew by, followed by Weeks, Months and finally years. Now is the season of Demeter, it's starting to get hot outside. Tress, vegetations and the Forests are all green with the care of Demeter and her followers.

The World was at peace.

Icarus was in his father's workshop, watching his father create new inventions was fascinating to him. Another thing that was interesting was watching his father develop things that you can find in the modern era.

One of the things was an axe, plumb-line, drill, glue, and isinglass. Things that everyday human use in the 21th century.

But of course, Icarus doesn't just waste his time watching his father work. Other times when his father hit a bottleneck he would be there, willing to help him up. For an example the Drill and Glue are one of the things that he helped him create. It's nothing much though as he knew that his father takes pride in his inventions, so taking all that away would fill anyone with jealousy and anger.

It's the little things that he help his father with, like 'Oh, what's that? a glue? hmm. Won't it be better if you made it stickier, know what I mean?'

Things like that. A little nudge in a good direction, he doesn't need to reveal anything. Just hints here and there. And Daedalus show him why he's called the Greatest Mortal Inventor of the century, with little hints from him he can breakthrough the hurdle he had.

It's amazing, it's like watching your first born baby take his or her first step— He knew the feeling all too well— Or seeing your child being successful. It's a great feeling that he doesn't want to disappear. It's one of the things that made him truly happy in this magical era full of tragedy, suffering and futility.

The one thing that he and his father hates is martial training. Perhaps, unlike his father, he doesn't hate it. Hate is a strong term for it, dislike mayhaps. Icarus dislike martial training but he still do it because of Fate. He doesn't know if he's going to share the Fate of the original Icarus or if they'll be a new Fate for him.

Fate or Destiny.

"Do you believe in Destiny?" Icarus wondered out loud. With his gaze unseeing on the foreseeable future.

The background white noise in the workshop faded.

Daedalus, who was busy with his creation paused as he heard his son speaking.

"Icarus?"

"Hm?" Icarus who his thoughts were stuck in his own reverie, answered.

"Did you say something?"

Icarus smiled awkwardly. "No, just lost in thought." He watched as his father resumed his work. He picked a book next to him and resumed reading it where he left off.

Magus is a Magical researcher, researching a way to the Root. Icarus is a magician who perform miracles on daily basis. But one thing that both magicians and magus has in common is.... Researching.

Although, Icarus is not a magus, he enjoy Researching about spells, magic, miracles and mystery. It's one of the things that he enjoy along with helping his father. A magician would use magic and be done with it. Icarus study magic, spells and how do they interact with the world in particular. He use a spell and search about it's variants, how to reduce it's time casting and how to cut the incarnations required to use the spell.

It's a mentally tiring thing but it's rewarding and exciting, so he does it. He isn't like those people who reincarnate and starts treating the world like it's their own. They start fighting the inhabitants of that world for the sake of power, even though they don't necessarily need power to survive.

Icarus just want his peace and research about magic. He just want to be left alone. That's it.

He doesn't have thoughts of grandeur. He doesn't want to fuck all the beautiful women in the world, he doesn't want to be a God or Demi-God and he certainly doesn't want to be a hero.

Being a hero is a self destructive occupation.

Can you tell me how many heroes in the Greek Myths that haven't died tragically or haven't been cursed by Gods? They're less than three or there isn't anyone who haven't died tragically to be honest. So, no. He doesn't want to go to the road of no return.

He just want peace! That's it!

Unfortunately, he noticed that Fate seems to disagree with him. Lately there's been tension in the city towards his father. With this alone, he can almost deduce that he's going to fulfill the Fate of the original Icarus. Whether he want to or not, but he's holding a burning candle of hope for Fate to not deal a bad hand towards him.

Sigh~

Whatever, as long as he and his father survive.

"—us."

"—rus"

Contemplating the matters of life and death is exhausting.

"—arus!"

Huh?

"Icarus!" Suddenly a shout broke me out of my musings.

"Yes, father?" He responded while walking to his father's workbench.

"Come help me with this." Father said.

When he got he found a pot full of hot isinglass, melted to it's liquid stated. Although curious, he didn't inquire what it is. His father will tell him after he finished his creation. Instead he asked—

"What do you need me for?"

"Nothing much, just hold the pot and pour the contents into the basin."

"Oh... Alright." Icarus agreed. With a twirl of his finger, the pot floated in the air and tilted itself on one side, the melted glass pouring out. When it's finished, the pot floated back to it's original place.

All this done with a simple twirl of a finger.

"Icarus."

He looked towards his father, only to see him giving him a stinky eye.

"I didn't teach you magic for you to get lazy." Daedalus reprimanded.

"Yes, but it's convenient to use." He shrugged.

He turned back to his seat and immersed himself with his recent research. The last thing he heard from his father was him murmuring Divine Words in a One-Line spell use.

Hm~

Fate or Destiny.

'Do you believe in Destiny?'
