"Mr. John, please spare us!" Frank and his men begged, knocking their heads on the floor, pleading for mercy.
John sneered. "We'll see. It depends on how the next experiment goes. Frank, I hope the results will satisfy me."
"Yes," Frank replied, feeling a wave of despair but maintaining a forced smile. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and glanced at his subordinates, exchanging knowing looks.
Everyone understood—they'd follow through with the plan they'd devised earlier.
John shifted his gaze to a different man and snorted, "Wade, your worthless guild members couldn't even stop those boys. Don't let me down."
"Of course not, Mr. John," Wade replied with a grim smile.
Wade was the Guild Master of the Death's Head Caucus Guild, and he wasn't concerned about the loss of his men.
As long as he was alive, he could rebuild the guild.
After all, dark guild members had no loyalty—just a network of rogue maes connected by mutual interests.
Meanwhile, Everit found the entrance to the underground passage. As he entered, he was immediately met with a surprise attack!
Laxus jumped in front of Everit and struck back with a powerful punch.
The impact echoed through the passage, and Laxus was pushed back a single step. The attacker, however, was sent flying, crashing into the wall and getting partially embedded in it.
"I'm going ahead," Everit said, leaving Laxus to handle the fight.
Laxus eyed the embedded attacker, noting his strength.
"You're stronger than the vice-Guild Master. Are you the Guild Master of the Death's Head Caucus Guild?"
The man peeled himself off the wall, replying, "Fairy Tail S-Class Mage, huh?" A smirk played across his lips as he prepared for another round.
"I am the Guild Master of the Death's Head Caucus Guild, Wade," he said. "You're strong, and your guild, Fairy Tail, is strong too."
"But you shouldn't provoke me."
"You're still young. Don't you think it's a waste for a genius like you to get beaten to death?"
"Stop talking nonsense!" Laxus's entire body was enveloped in lightning.
"Thunder against thunder—let's see who prevails!" Wade laughed maniacally. "Shadow Thunder Bind!"
Suddenly, countless strands of black lightning surged, coiling around Laxus!
"Thunder Dragon's Breakdown Fist!"
A fierce battle erupted.
Meanwhile, with Emily's assistance, Everit successfully extended his magic's influence to cover everyone in the Ahhanita family.
At this point, the old man John, desperate and reckless, was conducting experiments on his own descendants.
Everit didn't interfere with him for the moment. It was better to let him stay busy. This way, Everit could rescue Emily and the others without any interruptions.
"Brother Everit!"
In the prison, a young girl sitting against the wall suddenly brightened up.
"Emily?"
The other children turned to her.
"Brother Everit is here!" Emily exclaimed joyfully.
'Click.'
The lock on the cell door shattered with a swift strike.
Everit stood in the doorway, a grim look on his face.
"Brother Everit!" The children burst out of the cell, their faces lighting up as they rushed to embrace him.
"Kind sir, please help!"
"Save us, please!"
The other cells in the corridor held about seventy more captives—mostly teenagers and children. Their faces bore the signs of long imprisonment, weary but hopeful.
"Don't worry," Everit said, breaking the locks on all the cells, freeing everyone. "Stay with me, and I'll get you out of here. But no shouting or running off, okay? Stick together."
"Yes, sir!" came the eager chorus.
Everit noticed a frail boy struggling to carry a little girl, Emily, on his back. He took over, carefully lifting her.
She was so light—like she might blow away with the slightest gust. Despite her strong magical potential, her body was fragile, almost like glass. Everit made sure to carry her gently, afraid to hurt her.
"Thanks, Brother Everit." Emily gave him a weak but grateful smile.
Everit asked, "Did they heal all your ailments?"
"Yes," Emily replied, her voice soft but full of determination.
"Those evil people were experimenting on us, injecting us with magic and draining our blood. They were trying to create some kind of eternal blood.' But the constant cycles of draining and replenishing—while painful—actually cured me. They made me a mage!"
Her voice had a mix of excitement and anger as she spoke about her transformation. Everit knew that while she might have gained magical powers, the cost was high—these experiments had pushed her and the other children to the brink.
As they prepared to escape, he knew he'd do everything in his power to keep them safe.
Emily had a rare blood disease that couldn't be cured, leaving her life hanging by a thread.
But sometimes, the darkest times bring unexpected blessings. During an experiment involving constant blood draws and infusions, along with exposure to magic energy, Emily not only saw her disease cured, but also experienced a magical awakening, gaining the qualifications to become a mage.
Emily's magic was unique, and it bore a striking resemblance to Everit's.
Even though Emily had awakened as a mage, her magic was so subtle that only Everit could sense it.
Everit, aware of Frank's situation, "felt" Emily's magical presence. He smiled and said, "An experiment that was doomed to fail—from the victims, to the researchers, to the Ahhanita family, and even that old fool John—no one came out ahead."
"Except you, Emily," he added with a grin.
Emily's expression softened as she thought back. Despite the fear and uncertainty she'd faced, and her resentment towards John and others, she now felt an unexpected warmth as she leaned against Everit's shoulder.
This was the back of someone she could rely on, someone who gave her a sense of security.
The relief and joy she felt were overwhelming, as if the darkness that had surrounded her since birth was suddenly lifted.
In the midst of this comfort, Emily found her courage. She whispered, "Brother Everit, I want to learn your magic."
"My magic isn't easy to learn," Everit replied. "With the time and effort it would take, you'd be better off learning offensive magic, or versatile magic. You'll get more out of those than trying to master my magic."
"But I only want to learn the magic of happiness from you," Emily insisted.
"The magic of happiness?" Everit was taken aback. He reflected on his family's magical history and then smiled. "Is that what you see in it?"
"Absolutely," Emily replied, her voice filled with innocence and hope. "I've 'seen' what your magic can do, Brother Everit. It can fight and make people laugh, but it can also help others."
"It can let the deaf hear their family's voices."
"It can give voice to those who couldn't speak, allowing them to sing freely."
"It can help those who couldn't stand up, the dream of running."
"It can let those who've lost their sense of taste enjoy a delicious meal."
Emily's words were filled with wonder as she hugged Everit's neck tightly. "Isn't that the kind of magic that brings happiness to people?"
Everit felt a surge of warmth from her words and couldn't help but smile. Indeed, it was a kind of magic that brought happiness to people.
