Capítulo 32: Ch. 32: Congratulations

"Congratualtionsss. You ssseem to have easssily passssed through our territory. Your company isss very worthy indeed," the creepy 'leaders' materialized out of the fog within minutes of our entering the clearing.

"Easily? Rodair thinks it wasn't nearly as easy as these Silvantians are making it out to be." Rodair leaned down to whisper to me.

My head was still swimming with black dots and I could barely think, much less pay attention to what was going on, however I tried to gain focus, "So this means that we successfully passed your trial, correct?"

The glowing eyes pierced through the darkness, "Correct."

I closed my eyes for a moment and said, "So our army should be free to pass now. Please have them begin making their way here. And I'm sure there won't be any tricks, eh? Our agreement should be upheld accordingly?" If my head and ankle wasn't throbbing in pain, I would have been a little more polite . . . but I just couldn't seem to do so at the moment.

The glowing eyed form came forward and bowed its head a little, "We are known to be a conniving race, thisss isss true. However, we deeply appreciate and ressspect anyone who can sssurvive our trial and will not go againssst our word concerning thisss."

I couldn't tell if the cannibal was lying or not, but I was sure the army could withstand Silvantia's attacks. They weren't that hard to kill, but then again they could have been going easy on us. We just had to wait and see. "I understand - Please go ahead and alert the rest of our army to come on through."

The form bowed its head again and turned to another form, giving a hand signal. The other form nodded and let out a blood curdling screech (to which I admit caused me to jump a little) that cut through the fog's barrier, echoing across the vast land. Once that sound reached another Silvantian, we could hear another screech let out, followed by another and another until we could no longer hear the echoes.

"Your company ssshould be here within ssseveral hoursss. Pleassse feel free to ressst up a little while you are waiting. We have prepared a fire for you to warm up around. We alssso have healing tonicsss and wrappingsss if you would like to ussse them for your injuriesss."

I admit I was a little suspicious about being around a campfire, getting 'warm' with cannibals waiting to toss me in, but the pain in my head and ankle caused me to want to sit down quickly and recover. I nodded my head in thanks while we made our way to a small fire with seating around it. Since we were on the outer side of their territory, the forms just gently laid the medical supplies down along with some food then scurried back to their familiar fog. I looked around and could see the sky along the ocean seem to be lightening up a little, preparing for the sunrise. Everything on this side of the Silvantia border was rugged with hardly any trees and vast rocky terrain. I sat down gingerly, taking off my boot to take a look at my ankle. 'Yep - definitely broken.' I knew it had been twisted, I mean you could obviously tell that just by looking down at the irregular angle it was in. But as soon as my boot was removed, blood started seeping out and I could see where my ankle bone had peeped through the skin from being snapped. I heard Toval and Rodair take in sharp breaths as they looked down at my injury.

"Whoa, that's gotta hurt. You need some help with that?" Toval asked with a hint of concern in his burly voice.

"I just need some help with setting it - I can handle the rest." I replied. I had prior experience with difficult injuries before; this was minor compared to some of the others . . . What I really didn't want was for Richie to see it, so it was best to take care of it before he got here.

"No worries, Rodair will assist." Rodair bent his huge body down in front of me, set out some of the medical supplies on the ground near my injury then raised my foot up close to the campfire lighting. It was kind of sweet to see this gigantic boulder of a man to look so caring and gentle, like my ankle was the most fragile thing on earth.

I got comfortable in my seat and gripped the sides, "Alright, set it." I ordered.

Intense pain shot through my entire leg. The black dots from my head injury multiplied to the point I thought I would black out. Nausea from the pit of my stomach racked my body, but I willed it all down with just a sharp inhale of breath. I wouldn't allow these men to see me faint, throw-up or scream if I was their Champion - I COULDN'T allow myself to show any more weakness than what they were already seeing.

It took a moment for the blackness to subside from my eyesight, but after blinking a few times I saw Rodair's concerned blue eyes looking at me with extreme worry. He was still holding my ankle in place, but he looked like he was about to cry from my pain - which I found incredibly funny for some strange reason.

I started to chuckle, "It's alright Rodair. Don't look so worried - I'm fine." I bent down to grab the wrappings while he was holding it in place. Before beginning to wrap the wound, I tasted the 'tonic' the Silvantian provided to ensure it's quality. After making sure it was sound, I gingerly sliced my palm and mixed the blood with the tonic before pouring it all over the wound. I finished by tightly wrapping the wound, ensuring to place two wide sticks on either side of my ankle for proper alignment. After making sure the ankle was good, I poured the remaining bloody tonic on my head wound, immediately feeling some relief.

Looking back up at Rodair, he was still sitting there with a puppy-dog sad look on his face which greatly clashed with his tough burly shirtless exterior. Rodair looked down, "Rodair is sorry that Rodair was unable to prevent lady Ezran from coming to harm. Rodair is not doing so well at repaying back the debt that is owed."

Before I could even say anything, Toval scoffed from his side of the campfire, "Hey at least we all made it out of there. You could have hightailed it and ran, but you picked Ezran up when she was down. I say that's something to be proud of." We both looked over at Toval who was steadily throwing small sticks into the fire. He looked a little uncomfortable and coughed a little before asking, "By the way, why did you mix your blood with the tonic Ezran? That's just freaky weird."

Rodair got up and tried to sit in the chair that was provided, but after noticing that it was a lot smaller than his frame would allow he just sat on the ground, making our group a little triangular. He eyed the food for a moment before taking a bite.

I looked back over at Toval and answered frankly, "I guess not a lot of people know about Eurosians . . . Just like the Gorvants, our race is able to heal quickly. In order to do so, our blood contains a unique quality and if used fresh it can enhance the healing process two-fold. So I cut a new wound in order to use fresh blood to improve the tonic's healing properties. Within a few hours my ankle should be half-way healed."

Toval appeared shocked, "So the bone mends just like that." He snapped his fingers and I nodded in response, "Pretty much."

"Wow. Yeah, I would have never guessed that." Toval responded. It got quite for a few minutes, then Toval grabbed for some food and began talking about how fun the trial was. He and Rodair got consumed in talking about which part was more exciting or unexpected while I sat back quietly to listen. It was kind of nice to breathe for a minute while waiting for the army to come.
