They had been riding the carriage for a little over an hour when they came to a standstill. They never let their guard down as they felt an ominous aura coming from the man across them. They immediately knew the intentions this stranger had with their body.
"We have arrived at the entrance of the city, and you will come with me, you are now mine."
Turned out this stranger was a renowned slave merchant in the city and he thought he had now caught another slave kid and he was very excited. He didn't know this would be his last "slave".
"Haha"
Caleb's laugh sent a chill down the man's spine.
"We belong to no one"
Multiple voices came out at the same time from the kid, this gave him a demon-like appearance as he seemed possessed. The temperature around the man started dropping to the point he saw his breath and the windows of the carriage started freezing from the inside.
"You will take us inside the city and leave us be, otherwise, you will die here and now"
At this point the illusion dropped. The bow and blade appeared out of nowhere as Theo stopped casting the illusion. The defenseless child changed in appearance, he became taller, bulkier and with a coldness in his gaze that could freeze hell. The man had been afraid a few times as she considered himself a predator, however, he was now in the presence of a true predator, and fear started spreading across his very soul.
"A-alright stemmed sir. Please, don't kill me"
"As long as you remain quiet you will live. We have no interest in killing you unless you stand on our way. Trash like you does not deserve to rest in peace"
They moved into the city without a problem. Caleb watched through the window as he saw the huge city gates made out of vines and rock. Thick green veins pulsating with nature magic. The inside of the city was divided into rings. The palace and Academy were at the very center. The next ring being the noble households followed by the noble merchant district. After that came the commoners merchant district and at the very outside of the city, bordering the city gates were the commoners households.
Everything in the city had been made by the powerful nature casters a long time ago. However, as the nature casters were very rare, the city had to use stone and other materials so keep expanding. Caleb passed through the slums that were made mostly of stone. The same green veins were not very visible as they were very thin.
They rode the carriage into the noble circle, passing through the two merchant districts. He noticed how the thickness of the veins changed as they approached the royal palace. They stopped at the entrance of the noble district and Caleb stepped out of the carriage leaving the frozen slave master behind. At the end he had killed him as he could not risk his secret being known.
They had asked the man where the mercenary guild was before turning him into an ice cube. Instead of heading into the noble households, they turned to the merchant district where not only shops but hotels were, and most importantly the mercenary guild.
After walking for a while, staring at everything they came across, they reached a building with a jewel flower at the top. These jewel flowers were a sign of richness and they marked important buildings in the city. There was also a sign that read "Echo" which was the name of the mercenary guild in the capital city. Every mercenary guild in Eraos had different names.
They stepped in and were received by a small man with a ginger long beard and braided long ginger hair. He was a dwarf.
"Hello there, are you a mercenary or a contractor?"
"I am here to sign up for mercenary, how do I get my licence?"
The dwarf looked Caleb up and down, he then sighed and said.
"I know you are in need of money but being a mercenary is difficult kid, are you sure?
"Yes, I am sure."
"Alright then, place your hand on this crystal here"
Theo had put up their illusion again and so they looked like an average ten year old child. The dwarf pulled a beautiful rainbow colored crystal and placed it before Caleb.
"State your name when you put your hand in the crystal and it will tell us your rarity level, your elements and a rank. There are different ranks in the mercenary guild and you will eventually move up the ranks"
~Okay everyone, reign your power in, we do not need to raise flags. We will stay as a tetracaster for now as they are rare. Everyone pick an element.~

Caleb placed his hand on the crystal as he poured the intended elements into it. A small translucent card was given to him a few seconds later. They also changed their name as Caleb Thornwood was supposed to be dead.

It was an official mercenary card that would allow them to gain petals. They were very excited to be a mercenary.
They went to the quest board for mercenaries of rank F. There were very weird quests such as:

Aim: Deliver three letters around the capital.
Reward: one petal per letter.
Quest: Farmer
Aim: Help farm the crops around the capital.
Reward: five petals per day.
Quest: Laundry
Aim: Wash the nobles clothes.
Reward: one petal per noble.

Apparently F rank mercenaries were given quests that would normally be carried out by city employees but as that did not exist here, mercenaries carried out every type of jobs, including the ones that paid no more than five petals a day. Fortunately for them, they did not need nor sleep nor food so they were not desperate for petals but they could not stay at a hotel or eat anything until they solved several quests.
