The shrill sound of a baby screaming could be heard in the brightest part of the day. The child belonged to an exhausted Dyrad. The mother was rather beautiful. Shehad a leaf like green skin, beautiful brown eyes that resembled the bark of a tree, and hair reminiscent of the fall. It was so similar that her parents had even named her after it. Autumn Oakwood.
Autumn looked down at the newborn life in her arms. It was the complete opposite of her in a few aspects. Its skin was the same color as her yes, and its eyes already showed hints of turning to the color of her skin. However that is where the similarities ended. Feature wise it was easy to tell that the newborn in her arms was not a full Dyrad like herself, yet the child would grow up to be a beauty, as is the fate of those with the blood of a Dyrad. The baby looked far more human than she did, and seemed to have a more civilized air to it.
Of course this was only from a Monsters perspective. The father, who stood beside Autumn nervously could feel the slight presence of a dangerous beast coming from the child. However there was no doubt that the child before him was his own. He had come specifically for this purpose after all.
"With this our transaction is complete. So long as you care for this child, your lands will prosper and your crops will be the envy of your peers. I must warn you though, the heart of a Dyrad is fickle, and half bloods even more. If you do not treat him well your crops will suffer."
The man nodded as he listened to the Dryads words. "I have heard the stories. If I may be so bold, what have you named him?"
"There is a tradition in our culture. The male Dryads, though exceedingly rare, are revered as an incarnation of the horned God Cernunnos. As such the name is derived from that. His name shall be Cero."
The man nodded at the words of the Dryad. "It is a good name. I shall raise our sun well. In return We will stop the war between our people, and leave your forest alone. Far too many have died on both sides."
Autumn looked at the man before her. It had not been an easy decision to come to. As the queen of the forest she had to put the forest above her own happiness. Even if that mean sacrificing her one chance for a child to this man. She pushed down her feelings of resentment, though she was not fully able to hide her fury.
"Take him and go. If our agreement is broken, or if the child is not cared for I will stop at nothing to destroy your kingdom."
The man nodded as he took the young Cero from his mother. "I would never dream of harming the child your highness. Even if he is not completely human, he is after all my own flesh and blood."
As he spoke the words he turned and walked away from the queen of the forest. As he walked an overwhelming sense of energy could be felt approaching. The energy was enough to send a normal man to his knees, but the man continued to walk.
Before long the man reached a large clearing. In the center of the field stood a single woman. She had fiery red hair, and a well developed body. When she spoke her voice was filled with a seductive air.
"I see you once again managed to take what you desired."
The man nodded indifferently as he handed the infant to the woman.
"With this we no longer need to worry about the attacks of the elves in the forest. The agreement with the Dryad queen should be enough of a deterrent. I can now focus solely on our war with the orcs to the north."
The man looked indifferently at the infant in the womans arms.
"As for him, he is my son. I will leave his upbringing up to you. Your kind is used to fostering the youths of other races after all. "
The man made a dismissive hand gesture as he walked towards the other end of the clearing. "I'd there is nothing else, please don't bother me. I will be quite busy for the time to come"
The woman looked down at the crying infant in her arms and sighed. She spoke to herself as her body began to morph into the form of a giant red dragon. "If you had no intentions of raising the child, why did you insist on making it. Surely there was easier methods to control the Dyrad."
