Capítulo 18: chapter 17: home becoming more populated and just more problems
It's been about 5 days since we finished business with clearing out that goblin tribe and recruiting those to remain what I understand is those goblins have been a lot of help to the mining family then moved into town a few weeks ago which I am glad it meant it didn't make a mistake leaving him alive even if they were just going to be fighters for my empire with a lot of things happening recently I noticed a lot when the merchants left a few more people would join them and return to our village after talking with Leo apparently out of non-combative people we had about 30 people now which is both a good thing and a bad thing the good part is our town will grow bigger meaning we could possibly soon announce ourselves as a lord instead of being a town guarded by mercenaries my lessons about political affairs of Luna had gone over quite well and surprisingly the political game of this world is a hell of a lot easier to understand than back home but I have a strange assumption it's going to get a lot harder when we come a official new territory of the Lord I've also learned that we may comeunder attack from other Lords wanting to claim our territory for themselves and I've already seen one Lord in action when it comes to a fighting that dwarf perhaps I could use some magic to control him to make him swear feel easy to me but I have a strange suspicion even that's not going to work unless we win a fair fight against him so that means we'll have to plan carefully Luna had took an upon herself to train some of the villagers how to use bows and Drake toss some of them swordsmanship so they could fight if needed but mainly I sent out a good group of them to collect wood so we could build more houses I also had to refrain from using the undead as the normal century anymore and had to make them the fourth centuries so no one finds out that someone guarding them is a necromancer I'm assuming a lot of people look down on necromancy in this world like in d&d but even that could not be right but I didn't want to take chances of people leaving and we be hunted down as monsters who defile the graves of the Dead which would be a very big problem I do still have parthenax roaming around but he is instructed to say his oath prevents him from removing his armor but he is allowed to talk openly with the new villagers and the old ones as long as he simply gives a good story to them why he serves me as I was deep and thought I look to see Helga standing in the doorway I spoke to her
"Is something the matter Helga?"
she seems to have a Stern face but I could tell it may be a big problem since she had that look on her face considering she was always happy go lucky
"Lord Jack the townspeople wishes to speak with you about something important"
I nodded as I started getting up I was still wearing my armor and my great sword was still on my back I was always ready for a fight and besides it helps to build up my strength stats by wearing armor and having my weapon constantly on me so I began to make my way towards the Town square where groups of people were gathered they all seem to stop their chatter as soon as I approached them one of them approached me it was the caravan master the person I mind control to get him on my side
"Lord jack..... we heard some disturbing rumors that you recruited some goblins to act as protection for the mining family"
I said they're calmly as I would speak staring him directly in the eyes
"Well those rumors are true because of the goblin raid one of their champions swore an oath of reality to me in exchange for those who are willing to join my army will live and would not have been slaughtered and as well I anointed that champion giving some of my power to him and binding him to a contract that prevents him from betraying me and since he is now the leader of those goblins they will not disobey any orders I give"
I spoke calmly and sertably and made sure to sound like I was very confidentwhich this seems to make everyone start shattering amongst themselves but as soon as the caravan leader raises his hand they all stumped then the caravan leader would speak
"Goblins cannot be trusted my Lord please destroy them"
I stared him down as I shoved my blade into the ground as soon as I unsheathed it I spoke loud and assertive
"They cannot disobey me their leader is under contract binding his will to my order ineffectivity he no longer has free will you have nothing to fear I could order him to slaughter his tribe and he cannot disobey you have nothing to fear and if they do betray me then one of you can take my head as a trophy by using my own blade to sever it and you can inherit the title of Lord this is a promise on the gods"
I've been so notification appear in my vision it said
"You have made a vow of divinity this vowel cannot be broken the townspeople feel more at ease with such a promise being made but you have lost 50 reputation points with the caravan leader out of 1,000 you are left with 950"
I stared at everyone as I give one order
"Now continue the construction of new homes and commence with the construction of a barracks in town for the guards and a tavern I want this town able to sustain itself without needing any ones support except for the people of this village you understand me and one day this will be the seat of an empire that will never fall this I swear on my soul and I wager it against all it would take this bet"
Another notification would appear
"All the townspeople seem to be imbued by those words they feel absolutely secure and feel like they are a part of something greater in the future you have gained 500 loyalty points out of 1,000 with the people of this villagethey will not betray you even when situations look bleak but they will not risk their lives of their loved ones just yet"
I stared at them as they all went to go to work I had a smile on my face the caravan Master stared at me as he spoke
"And whatever my caravan what do you want to us to do my Lord?"
I placed one hand over my chin my face your hair has grown quite thin now it'd be considered a goatee back in my world and it will almost soon be a beard I give it a few weeks I spoke to the caravan leader
"Well I would like you to find more people willing to move their homes here and I would like you to try and make as many connections with others merchants so we can have contacts to get supplies and as well spread rumors around about a spell sword Lord hang around this village but not belonging to it"
He nodded and walked away the reason why I wanted him to spread rumors was to catch people's ears what Luna's has taught me during our political lessons a spell sword Lord has never happened very often in history the last time when such Lord existed was the person who created the last Grand empire which ruled over 500 years ago and because of this Lords have always feared spell swords who claims to be a lordbecause of their ability to use magic and to be great swordsmen not many armies could defeat them especially considering they could teach their armies how to use magic as well and as well spell swords seem to flock to these Lords as well meaning if I'm lucky then spell swords will flock to me to join my arm which will certainly make it easier for me to try and claim other villages for my territory and as well I've been studying how the world works during battles between two Lords with the help of my familiar system who I'm thinking about telling I have a new name for which I'll probably do it tomorrow but if I'm going to try an initiate one such battle I would need an army and people who are willing to poke around as scouts earn there place in my empire many people are would want to earn their place in such an empire considering the last spousal Lord never lost a single battle meaning with that kind of reputation for such Lords means a lot of people engaged in combat meaning they would try and settle things politically without violence which with the help of some mind control magic I could dominate that easily but I have to play it carefully considering they might have a mage with them that could tell if I was using magic to swing things into my favor no it's time to plan carefully I began to make my way back to the planning room inside the village longhouse which was the biggest building inside of the village not counting the fortress which will soon be fully repaired the gates are taking longer than was expected but thanks the blacksmithing family it goes by a lot faster than it would have just by ourselves not to mention they're also building ballistas Forest to put on the fort's walls act as counter siege weaponsit wouldn't take me long to get to the planning room as I saw Leo and Drake standing in it talking to each other before they noticed me I spoke
"Leo Drake we have some planning to do"
They both seemingly jumped at the sudden appearance of my voice Leo was the first to try to talk soon followed by Drake
" Lord Jack what are we planning?"
"Yeah we already took out the goblin tribe I figured we would be done planning things for a while until we gathered up a plenty amount of resources"
I had a smile on my face as I pointed towards the two Lords who surrounded our little village
"We will begin planning on taking more territory of course and for such a thing I would like Drake to appoint people to be scouts to look and scope out the enemies and Leo to begin training some of the other living guards how to use magic at least at a basic level and finally I would like you to figure out who would be best to train people to be cavalry and of course to gather horses for such a feat"
they both looked at all have what I was just saying but they nodded Drake left the room quickly but Leo stayed behind he looked at me and spoke
"Don't you think we're going a little too fast for such a feat like only 5 days ago we fought we lost a few undead soldiers by the fire spells that were used by the enemy shaman and as well we may have gained a few new troops from the goblin tribe we recruited and another spellcaster but that doesn't replace the numbers we lost during that battle even if we keep the corpses from the goblins from that battle that only covers our losses and we only got about seven extra units from that meaning we only got seven new fighters for our army"
I stared at Leo with a smile if I was going to describe Leo and one word he was my counterweight the person that tell me know when I needed it which is something every ruler needs otherwise they'll grow mad with power and end up being overthrown or being betrayed by someone
"Leo I've told the caravan leader to spread rumors that I am a spell sword Lord that should attract spell swords to flock to me and people who are too afraid given the reputation of a spell sword Lord to join up out of fear and people won't always try and settle things with us with violence they'll try settling things politically wish will give us breathing room not to mention we already have the respect of one of the Lord's surrounding us meaning we could ask him to join us in a fight against the other Lord and say he gets half of her land and we get the other half and he can decide the fate that she will suffer it should prove to be useful playing chip in this gambling game that politics"
Leo looked at me with a slight smile I guess he was hoping I had some things working in the background even if he was still uncertain about my choice he can at least settle his mind that I have things going on in the background that he won't have to worry about doing with I spoke again with a smile
"And besides anything happens to me you will take over as my successor because I trust you"
the look on Leo's face was one of all and I could swear I could see blush on him but it could be from him drinking last night so I didn't put much up to that part he nodded and quickly moved I guess that was something he needed to hear then I got a notification
"Congratulations you have earned 100 points out of 1,000 with Leo you now have max out your relationship status with him he is an ally that will never betray you he will always have your back he is also gained a perk called 'Blood brother' he considers you more trustworthy than family and he will always have your best interests in mind"
This brought smile to my face and it generally made me feel happy I guess I growed attached to people around me it will be sad to see him die and everyone else die before I am done with this world I then saw Helga enter the planning room she spoke before I could even address her
"I have some bad news Lord Jack"
I looked at her concerned as then she would continue speaking
"My scouts have reported that all the other bandit clans are gearing up to attack the village and it seems like they're also preparing to stage The fortressas well my scouts and the East State that there is a tribe of orcs attacking villages and heading our way but it will take them a few months to get here from where they are at currently"
I nodded
"get everyone inside the fortress and make sure to get all the undead out hiding behind the walls including all the corpses are hidden as well where I could raise them for fighting how much time do we have before the bandits attack"
She stared at me coldly as she spoke
"At most we have 3 days at the very littlest amount of time one and a half"
I nodded as she would move out to start doing as I instructed looks like my plan to recruit the bandit clans won't happen that easily I quickly made my way to the blacksmith to Grimm Ironhide the blacksmith who I took the most liking out of all of his family he was working on a ballista
"Grimm I need you to move all your things to The fortress we may come under attack"
The dwarf look at me and surprise but there was fear in his eyes when I mentioned we may come under attack he nodded as he quickly told his family what they must do I left my sword in the center of town
"Do you mind if I use one of your crafted swords Grimm I'm leaving my blade in the ground to remind everyone of the promise I made"
Without saying words he nodded I went to the weapons and found a very well crafted greatsword it was made out of the same materials as dwarven weapons which meant it was a very well crafted blade I grabbed it and placed it on my black and pressed the button as soon as it appeared in my peripheral vision to equip it and as I did I noticed it had much better stats than my old sword meaning I could leave it there without much issues I began to make my way towards the watchtower we had constructed in the village to look out to see if I could see the bandits anywhere in the distance....
