Was he being serious? Where did 'Miss Shi Min' the opening dialogue of his every sentence go? People say everyone is born with some goal to reach, looks like his goal is to destroy my existence. I mean who does that? What will he even gain by giving false answers? I am pretty sure Jin and Gao now thinks I am an imposter and Lang is the real Princess of Shi Mafia.
A few hours later he zoomed away on his car with his gang meanwhile I am stuck with whirlpool of thoughts in my head. Dude is actually having a lot of fun as The Boss.
Damn you, Jianghong!
It was so hard for me to come out of the mansion after that stunt. Everyone looked at me like a clown. I went inside with so much confidence to prove my identity and came out like a lost kitten. Why is everything so unfair?
I was so happy doing nothing and playing with the ducks at home. But here I have to wake up everyday thinking of a new plan to escape this mess. Never did I put this much effort nor did I ever imagined a day like this to happen.
My thoughts came to a halt when there was a knock on the door. I ran to open the door but stopped remembering elders message, 'Do not open the door to strangers'.
"Who is that?" I questioned.
After a long pause a voice replied, "It's me."
That's Lang, but I am not going to let her inside and see my face after Jianghong openly proving that I am an imposter.
"I am busy, It's me. So go away."
"Just open the door." Lang said from the other side.
I shook my head. "No. Go away. I will come outside only if I want to."
"I have no time to pamper you Princess. Just open the door and let's talk business." She said banging on the door.
I opened the door in an instant and her hand which rose to bang the door was in the midair. She brought it down and smoothened her black fur coat. She wore my dress this time too, which means she has all my wardrobe with her. I am stuck in the servant uniform of the Li's. My dress was extremely plain, black, cotton knee length uniform, hair in low, tight bun, while she was wearing dazzling jewelry, makeup, well curled hair, wrinkle free clean frocks and heels.
"You just confirmed my identity by calling me a princess." I clapped and she rolled her eyes.
Her heels clacked against the floor as she walked inside my room and shut the door. She looked around the room and finally landed her eyes on my form. She gave a bright smile feeling my family brooch on her dress. "See how places have turned upside down. But at the end we are at the deserved positions."
"No, Lang. You STOLE this position. This was never yours to begin with, and all will fall in its right place at the right time." I need to fight.
She chuckled. "Are you still dreaming of such fairytales, Min. Sorry, but I lied to you. Real life is worse than you can imagine. You are no longer protected by your parents. You will now struggle for every meal, you have to fight the wolves to live especially in this mafia world. You are NOBODY." She paused and laughed looking at my teary face. "Oops! I almost forgot you have earned an identity. As a servant. Especially my servant."
My heart winced seeing Lang, my friend, acting so bitter towards me. We shared a lot together from childhood, from memories to stories and food to clothes. Never did I witness her this cruel and it pained me more than it should.
"Lang, why are you doing this? You are my best friend. What do you even gain by doing all this?"
"Assigned friend." She interrupted me. "I was assigned to be your friend so that I can feed myself and have a shelter on my head. But for you, I was a toy. This princess needed a friend to pass her time so they assigned a friend to her. Isn't everything a fairytale for you, Min."
I gasped. "Where did all that come from? I never treated you less than my sister. I was completely depended on you. Never did I mistrust you nor had a thought to hurt you."
"So this is how you convince yourself after mistreating me? Ah, typical rich people stuff. Okay, since you said you treated me like your sister, where do we sleep at the end of the day? You get to sleep in your spacious, clean bedroom while I get to sleep in the tiny quarters. Look around the room you live right now, I was living in a room smaller than this." Her eyes now starting to tear up and I tried to hold her but she pushed me away.
"Don't you dare show your fake sympathy. I hated you from the day I was assigned to be your friend. You took all the privileges' while I suffered, alone. That's why I took away your ability to stand on your own."
What does she mean? A tiny scene of our childhood flashed in front of my eyes. When we were kids my parents hired teachers to homeschool me. Lang requested me to let her stay in my class and I fought with my parents to have her inside the class. She suggested to complete my homework so that I could sleep even during the day. Those days used to pass like that, she used to finish my notes while I got to sleep, sometimes she used to challenge me to stare at the ceiling without moving. Since I understood nothing in the classroom, I used to stay quite even when teachers tried to speak with me. Those teachers were scared of my mafia family and they would fake the grades to satisfy my parents. It felt like an adventure with Lang but now it feels so stupid and I pity myself for not thinking straight.
She laughed. "Stupid, Min. My parents couldn't afford schooling and your parents had the luxury. Didn't they once think of me as their child? After all, I am of your age. I had dreams, I hoped that things would get right after this day. But only days passed but my life remained the same."
I interrupted her and hugged her tight. My tears now falling freely, she tried to free herself but I didn't let her go. "My poor Lang! I am so sorry you had to go through all this. I didn't know I could make things easy for you, I was just passing my days. In fact I don't even know how old I am, or what day is today, I was so depended on you. You are the only person I trusted with my life. You are my friend Lang, and that's the only truth."
She sobbed along with me and almost hugged me back, but something struck in her mind and she pushed me away. "I am not going to fall for your tricks, Min. My mother have always warned how rich people like you are ignorant towards the life of us. She trained me to get smarter and simultaneously make you a dimwit."
I pushed her back. "You don't have the right to speak about Godmother. She was never like you. She loved me more than my mother. In fact, she was ready to save me while Jianghong was killing our families. You know something, Jianghong killed your mother because she was trying to save me. She fought for me till her last breath."
Lang frowned and wiped her face with the embroidered handkerchief, "My mother, really? She was the one who hated your entire family to the core. She hated how my grandmother was dumb and loyal to your family and how it made no change in our life. She hated your grandmother, your mother and even you. She must be planning to kill you and not save you."
"Stop lying. Just because you want to be, Mr. Li's bride you need not support the murders of your family. Wake up, Lang. Your mother is dead." I tried to bring some sense into her.
"That day, my mother planned to send you away out of the Shi mansion so that you will be lost in the real world and could never come back. But all of a sudden somebody attacked the mansion, and I really don't care who attacked it as we are from the mafia and attacks are common." She paused. "My mother was smart enough to turn everything in her favor. She helped me to replace you as the bride of Mr. Li since you were already gone and your parents are dead. She asked me to go first with your wardrobe while she will follow me with your mother's treasure. Now, I understand she tried her best even at her last breath."
This is so much information to digest. I held the corner of the bed and leaned my back to it while bunching my knees together. The people whom I thought my close were just playing with my feelings. The sad part was, they had been planning it all my childhood and I had no clue.
"I don't know what to say, Lang. You know I was so happy to see you alive, I thought I found my reason to live again but now you are making me feel otherwise. Please, give me back my identity. If not for me, at least think of your mother who was killed in the hands of Jianghong Li. How could you marry his brother and stay in the same house?"
"Enough!" She screamed. "I had enough of your nonsense but not anymore. You will pay for entering into my life again and trying to destroy my chance with Mr. Li. Stop lying that The Boss killed everyone. He had no reason to do, not especially to his brother's would be family."
"No, Lang. I am telling the truth. I saw Jianghong killing with my own eyes. Please, marrying into the Li Mafia is not worth it. Let's run away from everything and we could be friends again." I pleaded.
"Listening to a dimwit is the last thing on my list! I will marry Mr. Li and nobody can stop me. Not even you. In fact, from now I will make sure you regret you were even born." She gave an evil smile and opened my door and shouted. "I found it in the servant's room."
Lang pulled out an eagle shaped pendant from her fur coat and held it in her hand. The guards marched inside and the female guards dragged me in front of the mansion. Lang walked past by me and stood next to Gao in front of the huge doors of Li mansion. Jin stood in front of me with a dangerous glint in her eyes.
"How dare you steal, Li's heirloom?" Jin yelled at me.
....
Do you sympathize with Lang or do you think she deserves punishment? What should we do with Lang?
