Suddenly, Daphne lost her appetite for desert, but since she had already started to scoop a bit of ice-cream, she decided to have a few bites.
While she had enjoyed her food until that moment, the ice-cream that was supposed to be sweet felt like it had no taste.
'It's scary how our emotions can mess with us.' Daphne thought, with a sigh.
When Ezra came home, he was informed of Daphne having her dinner, and soon, Daphne was faced with her elegant husband sitting down at the dinner table, on the opposite end, three meters away from her.
Having decided she had enough food, she looked at Ezra, something she did not use to do, as she would usually just look at him in passing and behave like they were even less than acquaintances. This action of hers surprised Ezra and the words of wanting his dinner to be served as well were lost in his throat.
Daphne was a very prideful person, and after some trial and error in her human interactions, she lost the will to initiate interactions most of the time.
While Ezra had been interested in her from the beginning, her disinterest affected him, as such, after a few tries, he no longer tried to speak to his wife and had robotically gotten used to telling her where he was going, along with greetings and pleasantries.
Since Daphne had been heartbroken and did not think much of her marriage, she was melancholic about having succumbed to getting married like all other women in her position despite her rebellious streak. Soon after her marriage though, was the time when she was the most conflicted she had ever been.
Until she got married, she had not thought much of her decision, but as soon as she was married, she suddenly felt caged and she felt a finality to her decision.
Ezra had been interested in her, but he masked it well, as such, Daphne saw it as disinterest and in the end, neither of the two tried to speak or have a relationship with the other. Both had frustrations in regards to the situation, but they were also resigned to it.
As Daphne was not saying anything and Ezra was looking at her to see what she wanted, they ended up staring at each other while neither spoke.
The staff present at the dinner was confused and discreetly looked at their colleagues to see if this feeling was shared by the others. As such, the staff was soon, also looking at each other, communicating trough their gazes.
The silence was broken when Daphne calmly told Ezra.
"I have something I need to speak with you about."
Ezra's face betrayed a trace of confusion for a moment, after which he said, "Okay."
As Daphne kept looking at him, he continued.
"Now?"
Daphne looked at him calmly and responded, "Yes, that sounds lovely."
"Let's go to my office then." Ezra got up, waited for her to get up and led the way to his office.
As Daphne followed him to his office, she looked around for a second, after which her gaze settled on the desk.
Ezra spent, at most, eight days out of the month here. The average was five days per month, as he always traveled and they, or better yet, he, had properties all around the globe.
Ezra sat himself on an armchair and invited Daphne to do the same.
Daphne sat down, face to face with Ezra, the distance between them, less than one meter apart.
Ezra gestured for her to speak and Daphne got straight to the point.
"I want to get a divorce." Ezra heard her say.
