After we came back to the room, Xavier left without saying anything. I couldn't understand his sudden change of moods. We didn't meet normally before this day yet he behaved like he had known me forever and then he was back to his strange attitude.
Well why do I care?
I shook my head and diverted my attention towards the three goofs in front of me. They were laughing their faces off over God knows what. Soon I was one of them.
"You need to come with us mam." A man in black uniform came into the room we were sitting in. He was pointing towards me and I was clueless. Why would they need me anywhere?
What if they are gonna kill me because I witnessed Xavier murdering someone?
OMG no!
But I didn't say anything. I kept my mouth shut. It's been a month since that happened.
Maybe they were waiting for the right time...
"Why?" Raven immediately stood up from the couch. His tone was defensive.
"I don't know. We are ordered to bring her alone." the man stiffly answered.
Raven typed some text on his phone and exchanged glances with Dylan. They looked at me. I was sitting there like a lost kid who didn't know what to do or say. I was feeling the same way.
"Okay," Raven said to the man and turned towards me.
"It's okay, Bella, go with him. Don't worry you are safe here. I will call Xavier." he said the last part quietly and squeezed my hand. Reluctantly I stood up.
Sandi grabbed my arm tightly. "I will come with you," Her facial expressions showed that she was thinking the same thing as I.
"No," the man replied before me.
I gave her an assuring smile and walked behind the man quietly. Mom and dad are here too. They can't do anything bad with me. I reassured myself.
Xavier is here too...
I don't know why but the thought of him being close relaxed my tense nerves. He is not the type of person with whom you should feel safe but still his presence gives a weird comfort to me.
The man led me to a room which was kind of secluded from the entire building and I felt anxiety building up in my chest. The thoughts of running away came to my mind but at the same time I knew it was useless.
He opened the door for me and got aside himself. Slowly I entered the room preparing myself to accept whatever comes next. The door behind me closed shut as soon as I entered. I nearly jumped from the sudden impact.
It was huge inside and looked like an old library. I love libraries but I didn't pay much attention to the surroundings. My mind was focusing on other things then. It was dimly lit with the aroma of books and wood in the air. I looked around to find someone else.
Far away in the corner of the room there was a glass window but it showed nothing except dark outside. I noticed a figure was standing near it. It looked like a female but I couldn't make out who she was. Her face and torso was in the dark. I was sure she could see me because I was standing directly under the source of light.
"Who are you? " I tried to ask her loudly but my voice didn't oblige my intentions. Still it was loud enough for her to hear. I was beyond clueless at that point.
Slowly she walked out of the shadows and towards me. Her slow movements were frustrating me. I was about to ask her why she called me here but as soon my eyes landed on her face, the words died in my throat.
The very first thing I saw was emerald green eyes...
Just like mine...
She looked like some royal lady with a sleek hair bun, an elegant suit hugging her body and lush diamonds over her neck and fingers.
But what caught my attention more than everything was the amount of resemblance we shared. She literally looked like an older version of me. Same eyes, same lips, same forehead, even same hair color. I have heard everyone has about seven lookalikes in this world but that was really creepy.
Honestly, I never looked this alike to my own mother.
The next thing which startled me was her facial expressions. She was looking at me like I was some prized possession. Tears were rolling down her cheeks, smearing her eye makeup.
She couldn't be this happy or shocked to find her lookalike.
I had no idea what was going on.
I expected every horrible thing before coming here but this was the least thing someone could expect.
"Pardon me but did we meet before?"
After a moment of hesitation I asked her when she didn't make any move. I tried to sound gentle because she didn't seem okay to me.
Instead of answering me she swiftly walked towards me and pulled my body into a bone crushing hug. Everything happened so fast. I didn't find the time to react. I wanted to pull away but her embrace had a motherly comfort that stopped me. I felt a pull towards her even though I never met her before.
She sobbed in my shoulder and hesitantly I placed my hands on her back to comfort her. My mind was not processing anything but my heart felt like it would burst out of my chest any time soon.
We were parted by the sudden voice of the door opening. I turned around and was surprised to see Mrs Millers standing at the door. She smiled at me lovingly and then looked behind me.
"Are you sure?" she asked from the woman behind me. Her features showed concern.
"Do you still have any doubts? Look at her Emma..." the woman spoke. Her voice was surprisingly soft as compared to her intimidating appearance.
"Will anyone tell me what's going on?" my shock was gone and discomfort took its place. I sounded harsher than I intended. Many weird thoughts were going on in my mind.
Mrs Millers didn't say anything but gestured for us to move. The woman who I still didn't know held my hand gently and walked towards the door. I walked behind the women like a lost puppy.
We entered some kind of conference room. It was tidy and really formal. The first thing I noticed in the room was my parents sitting on the chairs around the table. They looked really tense.
Mr Millers was also there. There was another man in the room who stood up as soon as he saw me. I couldn't help but notice his expressions which were exactly the same as the ones that woman gave me earlier.
I didn't understand...
I walked towards mom and dad but they didn't move an inch from their spots nor did they look at me.
What is wrong with them?
"Mom? Dad? What's going on?"
"Will you tell her yourself or I would have to," Mr Millers spoke. His deep voice echoed in the room. He looked bored and annoyed. I saw the deep frown on his face exactly like Xavier's.
"What? What do you have to tell me?" My entire focus was on mom and dad who were not saying anything. I have never seen them like this before. We have been a happy family always. We never hide anything from each other.
"Looks like I have to do this." Mr Millers spoke again and stood up from his chair walking towards me.
He stood in front of me. His eyes and face soften at me. They were not ice cold like before.
"They are not your biological parents." he said calmly like it was no big deal.
At first my mind didn't register what he said.
They are not your biological parents...
Not your parents...
Not my parents?
What?
No!
How?
As soon the words made sense to me I felt like I couldn't breathe anymore.
This must be a sick joke!
This is not possible!
"This is not true right?" my voice trembled slightly. For some reason my mind was not accepting the new piece of information. I was waiting for them to laugh at my face, telling me that it's just a joke or atleast denying it. But none of that happened.
I looked over my parents who were not meeting my eyes. They lacked the assurance or confidence which I wanted right then. But their behavior gave me the answer to my question.
But how?
I remember my whole childhood with them!
"Your daughter got really different eyes..."
"Oh yeah she just hit a genetic jackpot!"
"Where did you get this fierce personality from, none of your parents are like this..."
"Your mom and dad are really different from you..."
"You got different eyes..."
"You don't resemble your parents..."
"Your parents are different..."
"...your paren-"
I held my head in my hands.
The sentences I grew up listening to bombarded my senses.
Everything was making sense now...
Why I was always different!
"Are you okay?" I heard little voices far away.
Everything was zoning out.
I couldn't breathe.
I didn't see anything.
Everything was spinning.
Darkness…
