"Shit, is it an earthquake?" Ambai whispered.
Impostor Zhong shook his head.
"No, it's something else; I think there is a secret chamber in your father's chamber," He said.
Her curiosity was piqued. "Hey, what do think is in there? i think its priceless treasures." She whispered.
'Wow, it will be like a trip to the museum, eep.' she squealed at that thought.
A huge hand muffled her mouth. "Shh, top squealing like a pig," he whispered.
Ambai made a zipping motion on her lips.
They both popped their head out and gazed at the door.
There were two guards standing before her father's room.
Zhong pulled her back and whispered, "How do you plan to distract them?"
Ambai bit her lips and whispered, "Well, this is where my plan is flawed. I don't know how to distract them, but you can, right?"
"i knew you would say this," he shuffled through his pockets and came out with a small green gem stone.
It was really pretty with opalite sheen to it. Ambai felt a pull to the stone, like a magnet that was pulling her closer.
Zhong pushed her face away and whispered, "Don't get too close to it. i haven't activated it yet but this is a dangerous weapon."
He picked up Fynn from her shoulder and said, "You close your eyes and hold this. I want you to run past those guards. Can you do that?"
Fynn tilted his head and gazed at him.
"Hey does your Spirit mount even understand words?"
The little chipmunk jumped onto her shoulder. 'Mommy, this man is bullying me,' Fynn cried.
"He can understand. Stop making fun of my Baby Fynn," she said and hugged the little chipmunk in her palm.
Little Fynn picked up the green crystal with his tiny eyes closed. And he darted towards the guards.
The guard squatted down and touched its soft fur, "what are you doing here, little fellow?" he softly touched its little claws. The little chipmunk was holding a small green crystal. "Hmm what do you have here?" he whispered and gazed at the shimmering crystal.
His eyes went empty for a moment.
Another guard wacked him hard on the head.
"What are you doing? Stand guard, we can't afford to be distracted," he shouted at the squatting guard. "Shoo, shoo," he chased little Fynn away.
The little chipmunk scurried past them and hid behind another wooden column. He tossed the little crystal away and wiped its little paw.
Even after a few minutes the guards stood still without any moments.
Ambai saw this and sighed. "Good going, your plan flopped," she whispered.
The stupid Devil chuckled. "No, my plan is working marvelously."
He strode up to the guards with his confident stride.
"Hey, what the hell!! get back here, we might get discovered," she whisper shouted, but the stupid devil ignored her completely.
Zhong directly waked up the guard and waved at his face.
The guards had no reaction whatsoever.
He turned towards her and smirked. "See, it worked. I froze them," he said with a grin.
"What!!" she rushed up to them and touched them softly. Their muscles were stiff and rock hard.
"Did you kill them?" she whispered in hesitation.
The devil scoffed at this. "No, they are just frozen. After twenty minutes they will unfreeze. During that time they will not be able to see, hear or even know that they were frozen," he said with a grin.
"Wow, that's genius; I knew I could count on you," she cheerfully slapped his shoulders.
"Don't touch me," he said with a wooden expression and walked into the room.
Ambai snickered and followed behind him.
Huge book shelves covered the walls of the room.
The entire room was filled with books to the brim. There was a huge table next to the window with a lot of papers on it.
But her father and Lafta emissary was nowhere in sight.
So they are in the secret room ah." She whispered in excitement.
Zhong chuckled and riffled her curly hair. "Not for long. What are we here for?" he whispered in a low voice.
"Search for something related to forehead numbers," she whispered.
He gave her a curious look. "What is that? Why are you searching for that?"
She sighed and said, "Just search for it, I will explain everything later."
He went searching in the nearby book shelves, and Ambai searched her father's table. It was filled with too many reports. But she noticed one report peculiar. It was hidden in the secret chamber on the table. She picked it up and read the title. "Report: Gaius."
"Hey look, isn't this report about your grandfather?" she whispered.
Impostor Zhong walked up to her and peered at it. "My mortal body's grandfather, yes, but why is your father investigating him?"
"He might have suspected him as well," she shrugged and opened it.
A quick skim gave her the whole picture.
"Oh god, I knew it, my suspicions were right. See this, two months ago I fell into the spring lake and supposedly drowned, and Real Zhong's grandfather was behind that,"
Zhong was confused. He could not remember anything about this body's Grandfather, but from what he heard from others, he knew that he was very much liked by everyone.
"Wasn't he the loyal subject of your father," he whispered.
Ambai shook her head. "Seems to be so, but I think he was a spy that was planted way before I was even born,"
He gave her a skeptical gaze. "How did you even suspect him? You don't remember anything before the spring lake accident, right?"
"No, I have suspected him for long now. After I woke up from coma, he spoke with my father that an herb can restore my memory. But I searched every book in the royal library; I couldn't find any herb like that. Why would he need to lie about it? Instead, what if it was a cover to escape from Miriafa?"
He folded his hands over and looked at her with his narrowed eyes. "So you are saying that he might have faked his death,"
"YES!! Think about it. His body was not recovered; they only buried an empty coffin." She exclaimed. "And he also had a mysterious number on his forehead,"
He gazed at her in confusion. "Explain," he said.
"well, your first day in the palace there was soup poisoning incident right, the culprits the five guards all had mysterious numbers on their forehead too, just like Gaius did." She whispered.
She didn't mention that during her first birth, they revolted and killed her. That's when she knew that they were actually spies of Lafta. But who will believe that she was reborn again.
He peered at her. "So that's how you figured them out, I thought you sniffed them out," he said with a chuckle.
"What do you mean, sniffed them?" she said with a confused voice.
"I could smell the poison on them," he said.
"So you knew too,"
"Demons and devils have a strong sense of smell,"
"Hmm I see,"
He took the report from her hands and read through it again. "So that's all the conclusive evidence you have?"
She shook her head vigorously. "No, there is also Kaden; he also has a number on his forehead. I saw him sneaking around the palace. He even received a secret scroll from a raven, and guess what day it was on,"
He ruffled her hair softly. "Day before Yesterday?" he said.
She smacked his hands away. "No, you idiot, it was the day the Aaorlins attacked. And who was the one who benefited a lot from it?"
"Kaden?" he whispered.
"Yes, he has been declared as a hero and given a position of the platoon leader. All this information was too vague for me till now. But after seeing the hostage prince, I know for sure that all the ones who have forehead numbers are Spies," she whispered.
He frowned. "So the hostage prince also has a number?"
"Yes, Number one. And it oozes with some weird black smoke. It scary okay," she shuddered remembering the black shadow on his forehead.
"But still, you don't have any proof to say all of them are spies," he said with a frown.
Big shout out to book guardian for all the support and love.
