Zane had crafted the Champion's Plate Set for Madison just in the nick of time. Because the very next day was her birthday. In this apocalyptic world, it was not common for one to celebrate the anniversary of their birth. After all, most living beings were fighting life and death struggles on a daily basis simply for a chance to survive.

But Gravestone was remarkably well defended. Partially because Eliza and Bartholomew had until now been hesitant to deal with Zane due to his potential connections to their mother. And partially because Zane and his girls were among the highest level awakened survivors in the world.

Regardless, it was because of their security, and their large stockpile of supplies, that Gravestone was able to take a day off. Or more specifically, Zane and the girls who hid beneath the surface of the world in their fortified bunker complex to celebrate Madison's 18th birthday.
