Capítulo 35: Chapter 35: Solomon Grundy

Amidst the swirling dust, a towering figure over 2.5 meters tall, like a small mountain, appeared in front of Batwoman. Beneath his tattered clothes, one could see the ash-gray skin and bulging muscles.

Batwoman knew exactly who he was. In Batman's secret files, his threat level consistently ranked at the top. After all, unlike other villains, those who ranked below him often ended up either dead or missing, but he would always "live" on.

Solomon Grundy, an undead monster born in the slaughter swamps on the outskirts of Gotham.

With a low and meaningless growl, Grundy's lifeless eyes stared in Batwoman's direction, and his rugged face gradually became even more sinister.

Boom!

Like a runaway car, Solomon Grundy charged towards Batwoman.

"Get out of the way!"

Commissioner Gordon shouted in desperation, loudly reminding Batwoman. However, she just clenched her teeth and stood her ground—because she knew that if she dodged, the two people bound behind her would surely suffer.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Batwoman quickly threw several batarangs with explosive tips at Solomon Grundy. Upon impact, they exploded, momentarily slowing his advance. However, it seemed that the huge zombie remained unscathed.

"Hah!"

Batwoman collided head-on with him, enduring the tremendous impact that nearly made her faint, then firmly grasped Grundy's muscular arms and used judo techniques to throw him away with all her strength.

Boom!

Grundy's massive body was thrown three to four meters away, but he immediately let out a low roar and got back up.

Seizing the opportunity, Batwoman agilely jumped onto Grundy's head, her symmetrically slender legs locking tightly around Grundy's neck. Then, with all her might, she grabbed the front and back of his huge head and forcefully twisted.

Batwoman had studied the files of all Batman's enemies and their combat records with him, so she was well aware of Solomon Grundy's weaknesses.

Although this big zombie had tough and regenerative skin, like all zombie-like enemies, breaking his neck vertebrae would effectively stop his movements—at least Batman had broken it many times before.

But Batwoman immediately encountered a serious problem—

She couldn't break it.

Is it because there's a disparity in strength between her, being a woman, and Batman? Or is it because her combat skills have deteriorated after years away from the battlefield? Or perhaps she didn't fully absorb the impact from Solomon Grundy's charge just now, causing some damage? Could it also be that Solomon Grundy has been enhanced since Batman faced him last time?

In any case, after Batwoman exerted all her strength to twist, Solomon Grundy's head did turn 90 degrees, which would be extremely serious for an ordinary person. But this big zombie still let out an angry roar and immediately retaliated against Batwoman.

Solomon Grundy reached out, grabbing Batwoman's shoulder, and forcefully pulled her down, slamming her with unimaginable force against the nearby wall.

"Barbara!" x2

Harley and Gordon exclaimed almost simultaneously, now they couldn't care less about hiding Barbara's identity.

Boom!

The concrete wall even cracked from the impact, and Batwoman let out a cry as she slid down to the ground from the wall.

"Cough... Ah."

Batwoman struggled to get back up, but failed. Although her instinctive judo breakfall posture mitigated most of the impact, even just ten percent of the force was too much for her to handle.

The good news was that she could still feel her lower limbs, indicating that her spine, which had only recently healed, hadn't fractured again. But the bad news was the intense pain from her severely dislocated leg bones. Her legs were likely broken badly.

Meanwhile, Solomon Grundy casually twisted his head back into place and began taking heavy steps toward the motionless Batwoman.

Is it over? Three years after her return, she hadn't expected this outcome.

Batwoman gritted her teeth, looking up defiantly at Solomon Grundy. Although she knew she was about to die, she felt no regret for coming here. She only hated her own inadequacy for not being able to save her father and her best friend.

Just as Solomon Grundy raised his hands, about to bring them down on Batwoman, a lightning-fast figure leaped down from the same hole in the ceiling where Solomon had appeared just moments before, landing squarely on Solomon Grundy's head.

Creak... Bang!

The crisp sound of breaking bones rang out, and in Batwoman's incredulous gaze, Solomon Grundy's head was twisted by someone in an instant, not just 180 degrees, but 270 degrees. His sturdy neck twisted like a pretzel.

Then, the person above him seemed unsatisfied. He reached back and plunged a sharp knife directly into Solomon Grundy's eye socket, deep into his brain.

Subsequently, he leaped down from the giant zombie's body and forcefully kicked Grundy. From Batwoman's perspective as a combat expert, the kick seemed amateurish and lacked proper technique. But this simple kick sent the hundreds of kilograms of Solomon Grundy flying like a cannonball, with a deafening roar as his body embedded deep into the concrete wall.

"I was scared for a moment, it's just Solomon Grundy. I mistook it for Doomsday for a moment."

The figure muttered and breathed a sigh of relief upon landing, then turned to Batwoman, extending a friendly hand.

"Are you okay? Looks like I arrived just in time—"

"Ah!!!!"

At the sight of the rescuer's face, Batwoman let out a sharp scream—she hadn't even panicked like this during a life-or-death situation earlier. In the next moment, a Bat-a-rang flew from her hand.

Clang!

Jekyll hastily blocked the Bat-a-rang with his knife. He hadn't expected to nearly be killed by the person he just saved. Luckily, the last dose of poison still had some effect.

"Wait! Barbara, he's not the one. Don't do this!"

Hearing Harley Quinn's voice, Batwoman calmed down, realizing that although the man in front of her resembled her nightmare, his demeanor was completely different.

Realizing what she had done, Batwoman felt a twinge of guilt.

"Sorry... You look too much like someone else, and I just—"

Jekyll shrugged helplessly. It seemed his Joker appearance had earned him quite a bit of hatred in Gotham.

But now wasn't the time to dwell on that. Jekyll looked at Harley, who, despite being tightly bound, seemed unharmed, and breathed a sigh of relief.

However, things didn't seem so simple. Along with the clattering of falling rubble, Solomon Grundy, who Jekyll had thought he had defeated, staggered out of the wall's dent, his head swaying.

Seeing this scene, Jekyll couldn't help but feel a bit unnerved.
