Chapter 50 - This Is... An Unfamiliar Text!

The door of the church opened quietly as Hestia entered from above.

She had returned early to check whether Bell was resting properly.

But when she noticed the light in the room was on, and Bell, who should have been peacefully asleep in his bed, was nowhere to be seen.

Confused, Hestia approached Bell's bed and felt the temperature of the quilt.

It was cold.

"Hmm... Did Bell go to the dungeon again?" Hestia wondered.

She wasn't certain if Bell had really gone to the dungeon, but the signs in the room suggested he had left the house.

This made Hestia sit down on Bell's bed, frustration building inside her.

"Honestly, doesn't Bell know that his body is more important than fighting?" she muttered to herself.

"Rushing to increase his basic abilities will only harm his body in the long run."

Improving one's strength was vital for any adventurer, but the body was equally important.

Hestia didn't want Bell to overexert himself. Entering this reckless mindset could lead to serious consequences.

"No! I need to have a serious talk with Bell when he returns," Hestia decided.

Even if he had grand ambitions, he couldn't make such rash decisions...

While Hestia was happy to see Bell's strength improving, this happiness was based on his steady progress.

Irrational behavior would only lead to disaster in the dungeon.

"Hestia, I didn't go to the dungeon."

"!?"

Hestia was startled by the sudden voice.

But when she realized it was Bell's voice, she quickly turned around.

There, sitting on the sofa, was Bell.

"Was Bell sitting there the whole time?" she wondered.

The basement wasn't large enough for her to have missed seeing Bell earlier, so Hestia was certain he hadn't been there before.

Curiosity piqued, she leaped off the bed and sat beside Bell.

"Were you really sitting here the whole time, Bell?" she asked.

"Yes," Bell replied.

After receiving his confirmation, Hestia leaned closer to inspect him, her face inches from his.

"That doesn't make sense. I didn't see you at all earlier."

"How could I miss seeing someone your size, even if my eyesight isn't the best?" Hestia remarked, surprised.

Seeing Hestia's confusion, Bell smiled inwardly, feeling proud of the effectiveness of the rune.

Noticing Hestia's growing curiosity, Bell decided to explain.

"Hestia, I spent last night working on this," Bell said as he swiped his finger in the air.

A rune appeared before Hestia.

"This is a special magic text. Different characters produce different effects. Earlier, you didn't notice me because I used the power of this thing."

"This is... an unfamiliar text."

Hestia frowned slightly as she looked at the words floating in the air. She didn't recall ever seeing such characters.

Bell, meanwhile, had confirmed his understanding of rune magecraft—it seemed that there were no such things in this world.

Since no one could understand runes here, there wasn't any need to hide it too much.

Bell had received the primordial rune through gacha pulls.

After obtaining it, he spent just one night studying it.

Thanks to Raiden Shogun template, Bell's learning abilities were nearly 10 times faster than normal, making it a piece of cake for him to master and use Runes.

"Bell, have you awakened a new magic?" Hestia asked.

"...Hestia, Does it look magic to you?"

"Hmm, no."

'But if it wasn't magic, then what was going on with this text?'

"Then what's going on?" Hestia pressed.

"It's a magic word, but not a spell itself," Bell explained. "However, when these words are combined, they create effects."

Bell then pulled a blank grimoire from spatial pocket.

"Although it was unexpected, those magic words are written in this book."

"Grimoire!?" Hestia's eyes widened in shock.

A grimoire could only be read by one person, and after that, it would be rendered useless.

The reader would then be granted the ability to use magic, having learned it through the book.

Hestia hurriedly took the grimoire from Bell and examined it, finally confirming that it was indeed a grimoire—one that had already been used.

"Bell, where did you get this grimoire?"

Grimoires were so rare that there wasn't even a market for them. Adventurers couldn't simply buy one with money; they were far too scarce.

"Hestia, would you believe me if I told you I found it in the dungeon?"

"I don't believe it!"

Hestia's first instinct was to reject that claim.

Although the dungeon has many precious materials, finding a grimoire there was almost unthinkable.

Such treasures didn't appear in the dungeon.

But seeing Bell's serious expression, Hestia hesitated.

The confident answer she was about to give suddenly seemed less certain.

When faced with Bell's incredible luck, which even seemed to influence the dungeon itself, Hestia couldn't be sure whether a grimoire really could appear.

But the used grimoire in her hand was undeniable proof.

"So, what you're using is still magic?" Hestia asked again.

"Well... I don't think so," Bell replied.

"So, what you gained after reading the grimoire isn't magic, but knowledge? Such grimoires actually exist?"

Since it had come from the dungeon, it was hard to say for sure.

"Hestia, hasn't anything like this ever happened before?"

"No. Typically, after reading a grimoire, the readers gains magic that suits them. This is the first time I've encountered a case like yours."

Perhaps it was because the Lower World was truly unpredictable.

All kinds of possibilities existed.

After her initial surprise, Hestia set the question aside.

It wasn't a bad thing for Bell either way. Whether it was magic or these texts, if it could increase his strength, then it was a good thing.

However, she knew she needed to give some warnings.

"Bell, don't spread this around," Hestia advised.

"As long as you don't talk about it, no one will know that what you used isn't magic."

"The spread of these unknown words would definitely attract unwanted attention, and there might be people who want to learn those words from you."
