Capítulo 19: Finding my place
It has been a few months since my induction, I have been trying to complete the mission given by the system. To find my place within the org... my new home per se. It is vague and slightly annoying but I have been accomplishing other tasks that Penumbra give out.
None of them have went sideways like with Stain, mostly just drop offs of information, carrying cargo from one place to another. The tasks are assigned to at least three people and a maximum of five typically. Higher tier tasks are given priority with how ever many people are required to complete the mission.
I have been assigned to multiple different people with all of them having some sort of malice towards me from either rumors or jealousy. I have pretty much gotten over it, I am mostly focused on training and learning my way of being a hero.
"New task Dabi, get ready and be there in ten minutessssss." Speaking of being a hero, here goes another task. I wonder what it will be this time, maybe another drop off. They are the easiest after all and most common.
Three months of training be it my quirk or close quarters combat, I have gotten pretty good at being useful. Fire isn't very versatile in the grand scheme of things but crowd control and speed boosting is definitely some of its strong points, so I now have a few moves to work with.

Walking in, I see a group of four sitting in the chairs with Veronica at the front with a board behind her with pictures and details that she will be explaining to us. So it isn't a drop off, cause if it was then it wouldn't need 5 of us.
"Now that everyone is here, I am the overseer of this task. My name is Veronica, and if you have any questions then I am the one you should speak to." she said with three out of the five of us being slightly confused, someone raised their hand.
A guy with a bag over his head, you couldn't tell if the bag was actually him or an accessory of his personal style.
"So what type of mission is this? Why would it need the five of us, I alone am the greatest! No I'm not, ahhh were gonna die! You should already know that I am only good for small tasks, I will assassinate the president." He started grabbing the bag as he pulled it down some more to make sure it was secure, like he was afraid of something. Only I knew why as I recognized who it was by his voice and demeanor.
It was a surprise for sure, this means canon is gonna be a bit twisted unless this is where he started and the org wasn't all that great but with how big it seems... I doubt that.
Jin Bubaigawara or Twice, one of the most over powered people in this verse. His quirk Double allowing him to create doubles of himself endlessly and other people as well with their quirks intact. Although each split makes the next weaker and weaker. Yet it doesn't matter, just one double of someone at the top of the food chain grants an advantage better than most quirks could provide ever.
My thoughts cut off as Veronica starts to answer his question. "It is an escort mission but what your escorting is a person instead of intel, thus why the five of you are present. The client paid for it, he didn't pay for an elite escort so that is why three of the newbies are here. I am sure that answers the last question you asked as well."
Hmm, an escort mission. "Why does he need escorting? Is someone after him?" I ask as this mission seems weird, just some type of sixth sense. Usually if someone needs escorting, they made someone very very mad.
The two people who seem to know what they are doing looked at me as if I was stupid until Veronica explained to me. "We don't ask questions to our clients, it is part of the game we play. It is dangerous but we do it anyway."
So we don't know anything about the client or the potential threats. No need to think about it, just gotta do what needs to be done. Maybe I can get Jin to clone us for this mission for a better chance of overcoming whatever might come our way. I doubt he would be able to do all of us but if he can just dupe me then it would be reassuring.
"Alright, got it. No questions. When are we heading out?" I said responding to my handler.
With a smirk, "Thought you said no more questions? Anyway, we will move out after you learn the route you all will be taking. It is from where he is staying to the airport, seems he is fleeing out of the country."
"Airport? Don't we have some villains on our team? The heroes and cops aren't gonna try to arrest them?" Someone said.
She has a point but I am sure they have it figured out, she must be the other newbie. A girl who looked young but was tall, probably standing 6'4 with her orange hair in a pony tail and a lean body. She must have some type of body enhancing quirk.
"We have a backdoor in, someone will let you guys in after saying the code. The code is 'Not as beautiful as the stars at night'. Sounds cheesy but I didn't make it up. Anyways, study this for the next 30 minutes or so and get ready to head out." A hiss was heard as she walked out leaving all five of us to figure out our plan.
With no one saying anything, I think for a bit before deciding to speak out. "Why don't we vote for a team leader? I recommend those two." Pointing at the two people who seemed used to these types of missions.
"As you can tell, my quirk is Rhino. I am not as strong as a real one but I do have some of its strength and durability, and she has a quirk related to sonar for reconnaissance. I think I should be the team leader, any objections?"
"None"
"YES!!! I mean nope, sorry."
"Whatever"
They all said as they looked at me, I was the last to respond. "I am fine with anything, I guess I will introduce my quirk as you guys have."
A flame flickering above my palms, "I use fire, I can't use too much or it will hinder my performance. My fire does not have eyes, it can not tell who is ally or foe... so don't stand in front of it. I can use it for close combat though without anyone at risk."
Orange haired girl explained to us how her quirk allowed her to change her body shape only minimally. Allowing her to make herself tall, lean, short, or chubby. It would be a convenient quirk for lazy people.
"I can duplicate stuff and people if I know its measurements and characteristics! Especially women, Eww no gawd... WHY DID I SAY THAT."
The two women looked at him with disgust on their faces, not knowing of his split personality. Thye knew something was wrong with him though.
Seeing this as an opportunity, I cut in. "Hey, Twice is it? You think you can duplicate me within the 30 minutes we have left? I think I am the best one for you to use it on. With my fire and all."
"Why would I duplicate a kid, I am not into that. I meant sure I can try, I can only do two duplicates of one thing and each one is considerably weaker than the other though."
A chuckle escapes my lips as it gets louder until I am belly laughing, "Hahaha you're funny, I like you. Let's be friends!"
Trying to catch my breathe as he stutters as he has no friends. He is a lot funnier in person than on a screen. He needs his suit for sure though, so his expressions show more.
"I have too many friends, I don't need no more! I have no friends, Will you really be my friend?" Twice says as I can see some tears falling at the bottom of the bag as it gets slightly wet.
"Yea man, here use this." I hand him a tissue from the table on the box.
Patting him on the shoulder, "I'll be counting on you for this mission. I feel we will need you."

Another thing, Penumbra does tasks of its own but it also takes requests. Nothing like terrorism, but assassination of truly bad people are own the table. Think of it like the Hero Association that Lady Nagant worked for but more black market type vibe.

What you think of Twice? I wanted to add someone that could have worked in this type of field and he seemed like the type considering his history etc. Since it is really early compared to canon, his accident just happened in this story.
