The air turned colder as Qi Ming Wei walked out of the wardroom. He walked for a certain distance before turning to the man beside him. "What do you mean they died?"
The officer, Wang Yi, looked back with uncertainty. He did not know how he should respond to his commander's question.
He had thought that it would be a great honor to meet the commander. However, he soon found out that he was sent out to deliver this bad news. Now that he thought about it again, the others were avoiding getting scolded.
The commander's expression was just too scary.
"We suspected that there was something wrong with their food. Those men, they died a few minutes after their meal," Wang Yi said. He began to explain to the commander the symptom that the prisoners had shown. "At this time, they have taken the sample and sent it over to the lab. The autopsy and the result should come out soon."
Qi Ming Wei narrowed his eyes dangerously.
Last night, they rescued Yang Ran and apprehended the men who were going after her. Those men were taken to their base where they were interrogated.
Ji Cheng had spent a few hours trying to get some useful information from them. However, those men were very loyal to their master and had not spilled anything.
His base was supposed to be secured. There were guards all around and only trusted men were allowed to enter.
For anyone who could poison the prisoners' food to shut them up... Qi Ming Wei began to consider that someone among his officers had betrayed them. Perhaps someone had bribed his men to do something they shouldn't.
His expression turned uglier as the thought came to his mind. Qi Ming Wei decided to investigate quietly. Those who dared to betray him or accept bribes for little benefits should not be allowed to stay around.
If he found out who was that person, he would not hesitate to beat that person up before he threw that man away from his team.
Subconsciously, Wang Yi who was beside the commander shrunk his neck in fear. He could sense the murderous aura and worried that something bad was about to happen.
"How about the cook?"
Wang Yi stood up straight again. "Ji Cheng had apprehended the cooks and everyone who might come in contact with the food. An investigation is ongoing. Captain Ji Cheng is now waiting for you at the base."
Hearing this, Qi Ming Wei began to pick up his pace. He wanted to arrive earlier and find out what was going on. Just as they arrived at the elevator, Qi Ming Wei turned to the officer again.
"Wang Yi, watch that woman. Arrange for tighter security around this level. Other than the doctor and the nurse, don't let anyone come close to her," Qi Ming Wei said. "As for now, she might be an important witness. Don't let someone harm her." He shot a warning glance at the officer. "Everything will be on you."
"Yes, sir!"
...
Meanwhile, Yang Ran was finally able to breathe in relief after the commander had gone out.
Although that man had a handsome face and a good body, his temperament was quite scary. Her instinct was telling her that her secret would be exposed too soon if she was not careful around this man.
Just now, she could only pretend to be a victim who knew nothing.
But she realized that she could not stay around this place forever.
Yang Ran was still unaware of what that man was planning to do to her. Before she exposed herself, she had to escape this place.
Her eyes fell on the handcuff around her wrist.
It would not be that difficult to take this off... but, after losing a lot of blood last night, she did not have the energy to move around.
Yang Ran leaned on her bed as she looked around her surroundings.
First, she needed to study this place's layout before she could plan her escape.
There was a knock on her door.
Yang Ran looked up and saw that the officer who came earlier had returned with a nurse beside him.
The nurse walked over to her side to check the monitor as well as the IV drips. Meanwhile, the officer stood still as he was watching everything closely.
Just as the nurse was about to go out, Yang Ran called for her, "Nurse!"
The young nurse hesitated, "What is it? Is there any discomfort?" The nurse was aware that every movement was being watched by that officer.
"I was hoping that you could get something for me to eat," Yang Ran said. "Nurse, I was in surgery a few hours ago and had lost a lot of blood. If I don't eat something soon, I might pass out from hunger."
Although she pitied this patient, the officers who came and go to see this woman was even scarier. Seeing that the woman was cuffed to her bed, the nurse knew that she should keep her boundaries.
The nurse hesitated. Then, she turned to the officer who was on guard. "Officer. The patient could not go on without food."
Wang Yi frowned. "I know. I'll handle it."
The nurse turned to Yang Ran again and smiled. "Wait. The officer will send over your meal soon." Once she finished, the nurse turned around to leave the room.
Before the door closed, Yang Ran caught the officer taking out his phone and talking with someone. Her eyes narrowed as she watched the door close again.
If she was not mistaken, she could see another officer in his military uniform outside her room. It seemed that her room was closely guarded.
After the interrogation, Yang Ran wondered if the commander would trust her words. Or would he still think that she was a murder suspect?
She raised her hand and the chain around her wrist rattled.
Then, she really needed to get out of this place fast. She could not stay here as a murder suspect. This country was different. Who knew if she was kept here and ould be used as a scapegoat to cover the murders in the city?
The most important thing was that... She needed to head back to F Country and find out what was going on.
