It was after 5 hours that the 6,000 workers arrived in Golton sea shore ,here, they found some wagons that were being pulled by horses half filled with sand, after all, Virtya was not only using the slaves but also these wagons to transport sand to Pollow.
The knights allowed these workers to drink water to their fill and then ordered them to start working. The chained prisoners took shifts in scooping sand with the spades and throwing it onto the wagons and when a wagon was filled to the brim with the sand, the slaves were ordered to push the wagons forward towards the Eastern Pollow.
These wagons had a strong towing rod in front of their hull which the slaves were using to pull the wagon.
It was strenuous at first but when the muscles of the slaves became used to this routine, the work became slightly easier. However, the terrain was not always favourable as even if there were rollers, it came a place where the slaves had to push the wagons up hill and this was where many of them lamented as the knights didn't care about the unfavorable gradient of the terrain, they simply wanted to see the wagons moving. At times, it was also enjoyable when the wagons reached at a terrain that was slanted downwards, here, the slaves would sit on the wagons and allow it to carry them downhill.
On the other hand, Virtya and his cohort had already arrived at the cement site, the place was busy as workers could be seen carrying the heavy steel for construction from the Eastern part of Pollow towards the West.
One should know that the wall of the valley was so steep which didn't encourage the carriages to traverse or the workers carring loads of cargo to cross, lest they wanted to fall to their death onto the marshy floor of the valley. Thus, Virtya had to construct a block and tackle pulley that used a thick rope made from sisal and a steel hook.
This pulley had a wheel with a grooved rim in which a pulled rope will lift an object. It worked manually and the workers could not help but marvel at the technology behind this pulley. It seemed like something that was easy to make but coming up with such a thing that was more advanced than the ordinary pulley that could make pulling much easier was not something that anyone out there could just do it, this simply showed that Virtya was a genius and he had to be respected. The workers were seeing Virtya not with looks of hate but with looks of awe and reverence.
When the pulley let down the heavy load towards the floor of the valley, the workers would then manually carry the loads from there to where they were needed to be while plodding on the muddy terrain that was filled with annoying insects, snails and snakes but the workers had to put a brave front and walk through the marsh with the load on their arms and backs. It was not easy because their legs would be lodged and gripped by the mud therefore, it consumed time to trudge forward.
Furthermore, the bridge for crossing over the river towards the West was made of logs that had gaps on its floor therefore, the workers had to be vigilant where they stepped lest their legs got stuck in those gaps or if they misstepped and stepped outside the bridge and fall into the river. This made Virtya to spent a lot of money to cover these flaws so that he could enable a good working environment for his workers.
"It's about time." Virtya said to Tanya who was beside him. Virtya was here today to create something that would provide the rotational motion to the cement plant. After all, he needed this rotational motion for the cement plant to function properly. Something like the limestone crushers, miller and the production line would not work without the rotational gears.
I have like 7+ chapters but I need to fix them b4 uploading.
