The dense night cloaked the tranquil fishing village, with a few tired stars hiding intermittently behind thin clouds. The wind blew through the large banyan tree in the courtyard. Guo Xiaopeng glanced at his watch and asked, "Where is Ms. Wang? Shouldn't she join us?"
"She is a police undercover agent. To be more precise, she might be a police undercover agent. So, I've already dealt with her," G replied calmly.
Guo Xiaopeng was thunderstruck, his mind blank. Instinctively, he asked, "Dealt with? What do you mean?"
G stood up slowly, saying, "It's a universally understood term."
Guo Xiaopeng's blood boiled. He stood up, advancing towards G, his eyes blazing with fury. G didn't retreat, but instead puffed out his chest, "I warn you, take another step, and unpleasant things will happen!" He glanced around the room.
Following G's gaze, Guo Xiaopeng saw at least three submachine guns aimed at him. He stopped in his tracks, angrily demanding, "Did you bring me all the way here just for this?"
"Of course not," G sat back down, "But we didn't know Wang Jingfei was a police officer at the time." Guo Xiaopeng, struggling to contain his rage, said in a low voice, "You were a Red Guard before, and later became a drug lord. She attended police academy, which I know, but that doesn't mean anything!"
G lit his pipe, taking a puff, "You might be right, or you might be wrong. The problem is, I can't take that risk." Guo Xiaopeng's mind was in turmoil, so he played his trump card, "Do you still want to do business with me?"
G replied earnestly, "Of course."
"I can lower the price by $5,000 per kilo. Just give her back to me!"
G dismissed the offer, "Business is business, and police are police. This is also for your safety. The two must not be mixed."
"I never mix business with anything else," Guo Xiaopeng said firmly, "But Wang Jingfei is an exception!"
G advised, "To become a great man, you cannot let emotions lead you."
Guo Xiaopeng coldly retorted, "If you don't return Wang Jingfei to me, the deal is off!" G shrugged indifferently, "Business is usually a win-win or lose-lose situation. In our deal, if I can't make money, neither can you."
Guo Xiaopeng, out of options, anxiously asked, "What did you do to her?"
G took the pipe from his mouth, waved it, "I never involve myself in the specifics. A decision-maker must remain detached. But considering your relationship with Wang Jingfei, I instructed them to make her end quick."
Before G entered the small room where Wang Jingfei was held, someone had already removed her handcuffs and the cloth from her mouth. She rubbed her numb wrists, contemplating her fate: execution, burial, or being thrown into the sea? Just then, Shi entered, smiling, "Sorry for the inconvenience, Ms. Wang."
Wang Jingfei, feeling a slight relief, adjusted her collar, "It's okay."
G's gaze turned sharp, "Were you ever a police officer?"
Wang Jingfei, fearing any slip in her responses, snapped, "So what if I was? Or wasn't? Being a police officer is just a job!"
G continued scrutinizing her, "Many groups outside the Golden Triangle have been destroyed by undercover police."
Wang Jingfei smiled, "They say countries are destroyed by women, or by treacherous ministers. But it's always self-destruction. If you can't recognize that, you shouldn't be in charge."
G withdrew his gaze and left the room.
As he exited, the advisor entered, "Ms. Wang can return to her room to rest. The bathwater is ready."
Guo Xiaopeng, with Lin Xiaoliang leading the way, entered the living room.
Guo Xiaopeng immediately stood up to greet him, offering him a seat, then asked with concern, "I heard Mrs. Jia isn't well?"
Jia Sidong replied heavily, "The pathology results came back. She needs a kidney transplant."
Guo Xiaopeng made a sympathetic noise.
Jia Sidong, with a glimmer of hope in his voice, said, "A kidney transplant costs a lot. Mr. Lin said you could lend me the money."
Guo Xiaopeng nodded.
Jia Sidong was very grateful, "I have nothing to offer as collateral. But I assure you, no matter what happens, I'll repay you a thousand yuan every month."
Guo Xiaopeng smiled, "For someone of your rank, a thousand yuan a month is probably your whole income, right?"
Jia Sidong, embarrassed, shook his head, "Not even that. My daughter is preparing to work, and my son is about to graduate."
Guo Xiaopeng said, "After living expenses, repaying me a thousand a month will take you twenty years."
"Yes," Jia Sidong confirmed.
Guo Xiaopeng raised his voice, "Honestly, when I lent you the money, I didn't expect you to repay it."
Jia Sidong, stunned, looked at him, unable to believe his ears.
"The math is clear; you can't possibly repay it, at least not now. Strictly speaking, it's your lifetime's income." Guo Xiaopeng said, kindly but coldly. Jia Sidong, moved and overwhelmed, stammered, "Chairman, how can I repay you? If you need anything at the detention center, just let me know. As long as it's within my power, I'll do it!"
Yang Chun drove his battered Beijing Jeep through the suburbs, hopping from one restaurant to another. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. In front of a small eatery, a new Santana police car was parked. He revved the engine and parked his jeep, deliberately scraping the police car. He then swaggered into the restaurant, shouting, "Whose police car is that outside?"
Two young policemen at a table glanced at him and mumbled, "Lunatic," continuing to eat.
Yang Chun staggered to their table and asked, "Is it your car?"
"So what if it is?"
Yang Chun put his hands on his hips, "I smashed your light!"
The policemen, enraged, stood up, "Say that again!"
Yang Chun grabbed one by the collar, "I'll not only say it, but also show you how I make meat patties!" He raised his hand to slap.
The three fought fiercely around the table. Yang Chun, outnumbered, gradually fell into a disadvantage. In desperation, he grabbed a bottle from a nearby table and smashed it over the head of the weaker policeman, causing a bloody wound. Just then, sirens wailed outside. The restaurant owner had called 110. A group of policemen burst in, the leader shouting, "Freeze!" The two policemen stopped fighting. Yang Chun seized the opportunity to hit one over the head with a chair. The leading policeman shouted, "Enough! Cuff him!"
Even cuffed, Yang Chun kicked and struggled.
As night fell, Guo Xiaopeng drove his Mercedes to the Xishan Villa.
Entering the villa, he collapsed beside his mother like a tired kitten. Mother Guo, knowing her son had something important going on these days, gently stroked his shoulder. Once he was fully relaxed, she softly asked, "I heard Lin Xiaoqiang died in Haizhou?"
Guo Xiaopeng was startled, "How did you know?"
"His father told me on the phone."
Whether it was the shock or the excitement of her son's return, Mother Guo suddenly felt panicked, her hands trembling.
Guo Xiaopeng, sensing this, quickly handed her a delicate box. After she swallowed a white pill, she soon calmed down. Guo Xiaopeng, feeling a thousand arrows piercing his heart, silently murmured, "Mom! This society is too unfair to you! This degenerate humanity is too unfair to you! I'll destroy it! Completely destroy it…"
