The weight of Teresa's gaze felt heavier than usual. I could feel the questions racing through her mind, even though she didn't speak them aloud. Her breathing was steady, but her pulse betrayed her—it hammered away like a war drum. She was trying to stay calm, but I could feel the storm brewing inside her. It mirrored the chaos in my own chest.

I cleared my throat, feeling Ares stirring in the back of my mind. "Be careful," he warned, his voice smooth yet insistent. "You're going to confuse her even more if you don't explain this right."

I ignored him. Of course, he had plenty to say. He always did.

"Before I explain everything about the mark, you need to understand something about Ares first," I said softly, my voice rougher than usual.
