It was due to Grand Duke Iron Blood sending his family's powerful ones to the dragon plane that he did not seem to be much on Myers Mainland. He became the family's leader not because he was the strongest, but because he was the best at management.

Saleen was considered more adept at management than other mages. There would not be a Metatrin City otherwise.

However, compared to the Grand Duke, his abilities at management were nothing. The Grand Duke was even able to recruit the likes of Imposa and got along with him. He grew to like the Grand Duke as a person.

An average dragon reached tens of thousands of pounds, with some reaching hundreds of thousands of pounds. Low level dragons might be somewhat lighter, but definitely not below 10,000 pounds. 

Dragons had huge amount of blood. It was possible to extract thousands of pounds of blood from just one dragon alone.
