Capítulo 36: CHAPTER 36: A MEETING WITH MR DEATH

"Run!-"

Another intruder was cleaved in half as the angel of death continued to pursue.

They had underestimated the man based on his near senile look. But never could they have been more wrong.

In the blink of an eye half of their team had been cut wide open. The scary thing was when this man swung his sword not a drop of blood would be drawn.

It took a few seconds before even the person that was injured realized they were injured.

But now, their team of seven had been reduced to just two as they tried to find their leader, hoping he would be their saving gra-.

"AAHHH!"

Both of the intruders fell and rolled on the floor as their bodies ran away leaving their legs behind.

They both looked in confusion as they saw their legs a few meters behind them. Neither of them felt when their legs had been chopped off.

The Grandmaster shook his head in pity looking at the two intruders. Sherr raised his sword ready to deliver the final blow.

[CLANG!!]

As the sword descended it was wrapping but a thick heavy chain.

Grandmaster Sherr squinted his eyes looking at the big fellow wearing a cloak and the mask looking like the face of a spider.

"Yes, yes. Now this looks like someone who can answer some questions."

Sherr flashed his sword and the chain covering his blade was released.

"Firstly, do you mind telling me who you are?"

The man in the spider mask shrugged before responding,

"hm! Just like you Assassin Academy people, killing without a second thought.

But let's see how you deal with someone on your own level!"

The masked man jumped back and threw his arm in the direction of Grandmaster Sherr.

"Well, I congratulate you on finding the secret to eternal youth."

Seeing a chain lashing at him Grandmaster Sherr turned to the side and used his sword to guide the lashing chain away from his body.

Immediately another chain was sent flying from the other arm of the intruder.

In a split second the masked man had retracted and extended his chain whip multiple times to attack Grandmaster Sherr.

As the masked man fired his chain whip back to back he laughed with madness. Slash after slash was sent in Grandmaster Sherr's direction.

Sherr was in the center of the barrage but he looked like he was just taking a casual stroll and not in the midst of a hurricane.

The chain whips were so powerful that when they slammed against the floor whatever grass or debris was there almost instantly evaporated. When the chains slammed against the trees entire chucks of the barks were yanked out.

But Grandmaster Sherr was unfazed. The intruder was getting worried. His chains were making loud cackling sounds with each swing so he was certain his attacks exceeded the speed of sound.

But to add insult to injury the old man began to sheath back his sword and simply weaved the chain attacks instead of blocking or diverting them.

The leader intruder was stunned. Was this man even human?!

It had to be noted that a normal whip could easily break the sound barrier and travel faster than the speed of sound, not to mention this whip now that had his inhuman strength behind it.

The possibility of any human dodging the whip so efficiently felt like it fell into the realms of myths and legends.

The masked man grew more and more nervous as the old man got closer and closer.

Before long the old man had reached directly in front of him.

[Zing!]

The sound of a metal clashing resounded in the morning air and the scent of blood filled the atmosphere.

When the shock settled the masked man held two chains in a defensive stance as though he had tried to block Grandmaster Sherr's sword attack with his chains.

Unfortunately for the masked man though, there was enough force behind the Grandmaster's attack to cleave cleanly through the chains and still slice his shoulder wide open.

The chains for a second or two still seemed to be under tension as though not realizing they had already been sliced clean.

Even the masked man was a bit confused. The few seconds felt like a pause in time. But then his blood spurted and the chain's tension released and they were left dangling.

The intruder felt his danger senses fire off on rapid as he tried to jump back.

Grandmaster Sherr wasn't about to give him the chance and swung his sword once again, readying to slice him open.

Unfortunately for the Grandmaster but luckily for the intruder the last group had just returned and a few of them fired shots and threw weapons at the Grandmaster forcing him to deflect his sword and block the incoming attacks.

The leader of the intruders felt a ping of relief seeing his underlings return in open piece. He landed a few steps away from the Grandmaster and smirked behind the mask.

"You don't stand a-"

The leader of the intruders' words were cut short when his stomach burst open and sprayed an arc of blood filling the air with the smell and taste of iron.

He knelt over in confusion, trying to compress the wound. He could have sworn he had already dodged his attack.

Was the difference in speed between him and a senile old man truly this great? The thought itself felt unfathomable for a man at the peak of fitness like himself.

The leader felt like he still had the upper hand, afterall his underlings had now arrived to balance out the fight. Even if they couldn't fight him their support alone could level out the playing field.

The intruder smiled-

In a split second Grandmaster Sherr had reached the center of the other group of intruders.

He wanted to incapacitate the leader first but with this many flies buzzing around that might prove a little too tedious even for him.

The intruders looked to the center only to see the old man sheathing back his sword. They looked at him in confusion trying to process how he got between them so fast.

But from the leader's perspective things looked grim. This man was beyond a demon. His sword swing brought death so fast that even his still standing men had not realized they were only alive because they had yet to move.

The moment they moved their bodies fell like cleanly sliced slices of tomato on a chef's cutting board.

One by one they fell to the ground until the stench of blood and iron stifled the atmosphere.

That's when the intruder's leader realized it. He was only alive because he wanted him alive. In reality the difference in their skills was tantamount to the difference between heaven and hell.

For the first time in decades the leader felt a feeling he had long since forgotten…

Primal fear. It was like an apex predator hunting its prey.

All he could do was run.

From his sleeve he threw a few balls that flashed in a bright light.

Grandmaster Sherr, making sense of the happenings dashed towards the leader of the intruders but the gap was simply too large.

By the time he arrived the leader had already jumped back into the ground to escape.

Grandmaster Sherr scoffed in disappointment. He would never go underground without knowing what was ahead. For all he knew that tunnel was a literal death trap.

Instead Grandmaster Sherr ran towards the wall that surrounded the Academy. In a few steps it looked as though he was running vertically up the school's fifty foot walls.

In a few seconds he had reached on top of the wall and looked in the direction of the tunnel's exit.

A little further ahead what he saw baffled him.

The man shot his chains out of his sleeves and swung from building to building like a spider.

Taking a few seconds to process the concept Grandmaster Sherr drew his sword and held it like a javelin.

With an enormous amount of force he threw his sword forward at the masked man swinging from building to building.

"AAAAH!"-

The scream of a grown man hundreds of feet in the air filled the morning sky as a sword pierced his body.

The sword sliced the masked man's side open but regardless of the injuries, he kept swinging until he disappeared into the morning skyline.
