16. Learning more, knowing less(part 2)

it was still in the morning 🌄 and by this time Ascimos, Subaru and aunt Layla were in a black carriage being pulled by a horse,the coachman was none other than Uncle Withward and inside the carriage, Ascimos was sitting by the right side, aunt Layla on the other side,while Subaru was in the center,they had already gone out of the mansion's estate,and right now they were passing the town.

Ascimos POV:

"1798,1799,1800"

I was busy counting numbers while keeping my eyes out for something 👀

"I wonder when we're going to get there?"

I said talking to myself while resting my head on the window and looking at the townspeople , seeing different signs by the road side, things such as distances and their location

"wait, that should be it"

I immediately sat upright and turned to Aunt Layla and asked

"can you tell me now?"

I said trying to muster the best imitation of puppy eyes I could give but...

"I'm sorry Ascimos,I'm under strict orders not to tell you"

she was as firm as a rock,she had been giving that answer for the past 5 minutes now, whenever I asked her the same question she would give the same answer,it was so furstrating

I then turned my face towards the curtain that served as a boundary between me and the coachman which was uncle Withward,I unveiled it and poked my head out and asked

"what about you Uncle Withward,do you know where we're going?"

I said this time not forming any puppy eyes,I was an adult long enough in my past life that is if it actually happened, to know that when asking for something that you think is going to be easy to get try your hardest at first but always make sure to have low expectations

"first off, I'm the coachman,so of course I know where we're going, secondly, just like Layla,I'm under strict orders so I can't tell you"

he said not even sparing a glance at me,

"are you sure about that? cause if you ask me I'll say you don't"

I said trying to use reverse phycology on him

"of course I know it's...."

Uncle Withward was about to spill the beans when Aunt Layla cleared her throat and immediately she did Uncle Withward said

"haha, almost got me there, can't believe I almost fell for that"

it seems they are bent on not letting me know where we're going,then I better rephrase my question

"okay then,but how many minutes would it take for us to reach our destination",I asked

"I guess I can tell you that"

he first of all turned to look at Aunt Layla,when he saw she didn't react he started to speak, although he still did not remove his eyes from the front,I guess he's like a driver right now so all his attention has to be on the road 🛣️

"it will take about 10 minutes"

he said after taking time to think

"10 minutes? wow that's a little while from now"

I know that in my past life I did a little maths ,so I could definitely tell where we're going if I knew the distance, a while ago I saw something frighteningly familiar to a bill board and on it was a list of places and their distances, I observed that one of the places on that billboard which we had already past was labeled 1km,on a side note,I am happy to know that this world makes good use of numbers like the former one which I presumably was in, and I the reason why I was counting was inorder to know the speed of the carriage, it took us a time of 1800s which is about 30 minutes to get there from the last bill board I saw meaning the carriage was moving at a speed of 2km/h. I saw alot of billboards and we had past them all and each time we did I started counting anew, was it tiring?

of course it was,but it's all worth it, because very soon I will know where we're going,I turned the numbers that Uncle Withward told me, which were 10 minutes into hours s,which is 10 ÷ 60 which is about ⅙ hrs and from my maths class I know that distance is equal to speed × time , therefore a bit of maths there and a little maths here and ,so it's 12km,so that means...

"Eureka!"

I said out loud, finally figuring out the answer

"what is it Master Ascimos?"

Uncle Withward asked from where he was still focused on the road ,he was sitting upright with his back so stern not budging an inch

"master?"

I asked giving uncle Withward a signal, pointing to Subaru which he was able to get

"oh, sorry , Ascimos"

he corrected his sentence

"well you see, I now know where we're going?"

I said folding my hands and pumping out my chest

"oh,I see....,well then, tell me where are we going?"

Aunt Layla asked looking at me, giving me a 'i don't believe you' face

"oh, you doubt me pretty easily isn't that right Aunt Layla,well then I'm pretty sure Subaru would love to know "

I said hitting Subaru, hitting because he had been asleep all this while

"ugh,huh? are we there yet?"

Subaru asked looking at me

"no we are not "

I said smiling

"I told you to wake me when we're there"

he said looking pissed 😡

"I know,but I have a good piece of information for you that I know you would love to hear"

I said still folding my hands

"oh,and what could that be?"

he asked looking no longer pissed or annoyed but rather more curious.

|...I've got him...|

I thought

"we're going to the imper..."

the next thing I knew i saw Aunt Layla hand wrapped around my mouth and quickly said

"imperative of weather"

she immediately changed my sentence

I wanted to say 'Imperial Academy',but it seems they don't want Subaru to know,so that means I was right

"don't worry about Ascimos just go back to sleep"

she said giving Subaru a smile 😊

"oh okay"

Subaru immediately rest his head,but soon after resting he woke up and said

"now see what you've done Ascimos I can't go back to sleep"

he said not looking angry but instead like someone's stating a facts while I was still struggling to get out of Aunt Layla's clutch

"no need we're almost there,you can already see the part of the building"

Uncle Withward replied

"is that so? let me see"

Subaru poked his head out of the curtain and immediately he did

"haaaa!!"

Subaru screamed at the top of his voice

"I knew something was up when mom said it was a surprise,but I didn't knew she would stoop to this level"

he kept on shouting while moving and because of that I was able to get off Aunt Layla's clutch

I looked through the window and noticed that we were no longer on a road anymore but I could still see a building up ahead and it looked like a tall building almost like an, wait have we reached the imperial academy? wait, we're there? 10 minutes already?

I asked myself deep in thoughts

meanwhile Subaru was still shouting his lungs out

"uncle Withward,I trusted you, definitely didn't trust Aunt Layla but I didn't expect them to have influenced you so quickly"

he said moving alot which in turn was making the carriage to shake

"it's still too soon,I thought I would go in a few days time not now,the deals off, someone help m...."

before Subaru could finish his sentence which was 'help me'

he was knocked out cold by Aunt Layla,

"sigh 😔, see why we didn't want to tell you guys, knowing you Ascimos,you will be too childish that you would want to tell Subaru"

Aunt Layla said

"hey,I am not, you know"

I replied feeling pissed by her statement

"your aunt knew that if Master Subaru was to know of where we're going he wouldn't agree to come he would have definitely misread the situation,and that's one of the reasons why Layla followed us,so she could stop him from trying to escape,I would have done it if I could but all my attention are on the path we're following"

Uncle Withward said fully explaining the scenario that just took place all the while not looking back

I wanted to correct uncle Withward on the 'master' part but doing that all the time is stressful so I didn't

right now Subaru was sleeping Peacefully on Aunt Layla's lap and his head was being pat by her, suddenly a arrow flew by my face and was heading straight for Subaru but...

it was caught by Aunt Layla in the nick of time, Uncle Withward then stopped the carriage

Aunt Layla slowly turned her eyes to the direction the arrow came flying from and said

"it seems that master Subaru may have unintentionally revealed our location to the enemy"

she then gently rose Subaru off her lap and placed him on top my own and said

"please take good care of Master Subaru"

she said to me and alighted off the carriage she went to it's back and said to outloud seemingly to uncle Withward

"no need to worry,I can handle things here"

"if you want I can lend you a hand"

Uncle Withward said trying to offer his assistance

"there's no need , you would just steal the spotlight, besides it's just a bunch of weaklings they're no match for me"

she said with a smile on her face, to Uncle Withward

"fine then,have it your way"

Uncle Withward said raising his glasses up a little but this time his face showed a little red

"are you blushing sir Withward?"

Aunt Layla asked bending her head to the side

"no I am not"

Uncle Withward replied

|....he was definitely blushing but I'll let Uncle Withward have this one...|

I thought,when suddenly another arrow came flying at me ,but before it could touch me Aunt Layla swiftly grabbed it

"it seems they won't even allow us to have a peaceful conversation"

she said

"if that's the case,I'll be going,by the way, Layla?"

uncle Withward called out to her

"yes?"

she answered

"please stay safe, I am not asking just because I won't be able to show my face to Lia if you die but also because I care deeply about you"

he said now turning back to look at her in the eyes

I turned to look at Aunt Layla, expecting her to be all red

but surprisingly she wasn't

"it's okay,I will be fine , please get going and don't worry about me"

she said and winking at Uncle Withward

"okay"

uncle Withward then motioned the horse to move and we started moving when we did I quickly closed the windows for fear of being a casualty of any crossfire. I heard some sound of arrows being shot but it they never came through the carriage I don't know how but I am too scared to look out and I think I knew why ,when we had gone a little bit far I asked Uncle Withward

"Please, uncle Withward, could you tell me why we were attacked?"

I asked trying to be as polite as I could since I could sense it must be a delicate matter, so I don't want to force him to tell me but to my surprise he answered me promptly

"remember when I told you about aunt Rachel being an elite?"

"yes"

I replied

"well she isn't the only one ,and she has some bad blood with the others"

Uncle Withward calmly said

"oh I see, what about aunt Layla,do you think she'll be alright"

I asked sincerely worried for her

"oh Layla is the last person you should be worried about,I too am worried but I have complete faith in her and also in her skills she'll be fine"

he said

when I heard that my nerves relaxed a bit

"okay"

few minutes ago at exactly the time Uncle Withward with Subaru and Ascimos were leaving aunt Layla.

Aunt Layla's Pov:

"so he does care, it's moments like this that makes me fall harder for you"

I said looking into the distance at the carriage

"please keep our young masters safe"

after saying that I turned back in the opposite direction the carriage was taking and I said

"you can come out now"

I said to the atmosphere,right now we were in an area with alot of trees and bushes but but the ground was filled with short grasses,just the right place for me,few moments had passed and no one answered then I got tired and said

"if you won't come to me then I'll come to you"

after saying that I closed my eyes and said in my mind

'magic enchantment activate'

after I thought that sentence,a green circle with an insignia encarved on a rectangle was formed on my hand,a bunch of arrows were being fired at the carriage but I was able to stop them by suddenly growing out trees from the ground to block the shots,I could feel and sense anything and everything of nature,I and my sister both have the same kind of magic which was nature we could control grasses and plants it is a sub variety of earth,we aren't earth magicians,they control earth but we control the plants,and right now I had the advantage since I was in my terrain I can sense all the plants around me on a range of 50km

and right now even the soil I was stepping on was covered with grass, in Summary the enemy made a bad mistake of initiating an attack here

I immediately detected where the enemy was and I manipulated some plants to grow rapidly out of all the spots I sensed the enemies where, immediately I did I saw alot of shadows jump out, after a while I could clearly see them,they all had hoods on with a bow and arrow at their backs

"you guys made a bit of a mistake attacking us here"

I said showing off a bit of my aura

when I did most of them jumped back a little,all except one,but for the ones that jumped back,they fell right into my trap

I grew a little plant Just like a mushroom that if stepped upon would result in it releasing a short bust of sleeping gas, sleeping gas because,I couldn't kill them , I needed them alive for questioning, it's not because I am soft hearted no definitely not 🤥

"hmmm,and here I was thinking your instincts may have softened up a bit"

the person who didn't jump back removed his or her hoody and said

"I'm sorry,but who are you?"

I asked confused on why the enemy would complement me

"you may not know me,but I know you,you were once reconnaissance agent working directly under the emperor,who would have thought you are now an attendant"

the person who happened to be a woman with brown hair said

"I once looked up to you ,you know ,both you and your sister"

she continued

"but I guess I was wrong about both of you..."

"the decisions me and my sister make are none of your business"

I said increasing my aura to show the enemy I meant business

"you think your little aura is enough to scare me? I am much more stronger than you now"

the person said and released her own aura which was in no way small

"Don't think I would go easy on you cause we are both females"

the enemy who happened to be with a brown hair and brown color of eyes,said while entering a fighting stance

"I should be the one telling you that,"

I said and dashed towards her,

|....sigh 😔, Earth magicians,always talk big,good thing I ain't one, in a way...|

I thought while thinking back on all the earth magicians I have seen in my life so far.

meanwhile:

Ascimos POV:

[Author: .....next time I won't write it, because his POV is the default POV, it's only when others are talking I will write theirs but for Ascimos,I won't...]

it's been a while since we left Aunt Layla, Subaru was still sleeping and uncle Withward was still leading the carriage to the academy but all that

changed the moment we reached the gates of the academy,it was really huge to the extent that I couldn't see the top from up close and it is black in colour having it's top embedded with crystals of different colors, which were,red,blue,yellow,white and brown, outside the gate was a straight path that was cut from the main road,we took the forest so we eventually had to enter the main road, now we were on the path that led to the gates and by our sides were neatly trimmed flowers,it was like a garden on its own and it gave off a nice natural and soothing scent that I almost felt like sleeping.

Uncle Withward got down from the carriage and went close to the gate,he then put his hand on a purplish crystal besides the gate and then he began to speak, he said

"Good day,please can you open up,the password is ....."

I couldn't hear the password and I was also a bad lip reader, then Uncle Withward released his hand from the crystal,and stood Infront of the gate seeming to be waiting for someone, after a while I saw a young lady with blue hair dressed in a female suit came Infront of the gate,there were some dust on her skirt, the gate wasn't yet opened so uncle Withward was standing on one side while the young lady on the other side,the only reason they could see each other now was because the gate was made in such of way of it having vertical lines in series that could allow for proper view of the other side,it was big enough to allow a finger but too small to allow a hand 🌉

"your invitation?"

the young lady said out loud while she was dusting her skirt not even looking into uncle Withward eyes

"oh it's right here"

uncle Withward then put his hand into his pocket and brought out a black card

"oh ,very nice"

this time the young lady was brought out one of her hand Infront of the gate her attention still on dusting her skirt that by the way already looked neat as it is

Uncle Withward then passed the card through the tiny vertical lines and placed it on her hand,

"okay better"

the woman said seeming to be talking to her skirt

"I beg your pardon?"

uncle Withward asked

"oh , it's not..."

the woman then looked up for the first time into Uncle Withward face and eyes after that she started fidgeting

"oh,I'm.. sorry...sir, you must be ....a special...guest?"

the lady asked with her face all red

|....if only either aunt Layla or Lia was here to see this....|

I thought barely able to contain myself from saying it outloud ,but once again it seems uncle Withward didn't get the memo

"a special guest? no you must have it wrong,I'm only an attendant and the two kids inside of that carriage are actually the ones you have business with"

Uncle Withward said pointing to the carriage

"oh... okay,I'll open the gate"

the woman was about to leave when

"I'm sorry but I forgot to give you the applicant's form"

he then handed her a piece of paper through the gate

"oh my, can't.... believe I... almost forgot"

she nervously took the paper from

him and went away, uncle Withward came back into the carriage and sat on the coachman seat,a few minutes later the gates opened and we rode inside.

As we got in the next thing we saw was a big door and to our sides were also a flower garden which some carriages had parked

|....guess that's the parking lot....|

I thought, uncle Withward rode the carriage to the 'carriage parking lot' after the carriage was successfully parked,I came down first ,then Uncle Withward followed suit,he went to the horse and fed it an apple 🍎 which he brought out from inside the carriage after that he began to pet it,he then loosened the horse and took it away with him,I on the other hand was trying to wake up Subaru who at this point was snoring while fast asleep,I called out to him,slapped him almost even poured a bucket of water on him but on doing that I realized that there's a simple method to this,I immediately went straight to the garden plucked out a soft leaf and began to tickle it around his ear👂,he must have thought it was a fly because he started to wave his hand around his ear,I still didn't stop ,and when I didn't he then gave himself a big slap which woke him up,

"ouch! who slapped me?"

he sat upright and said

"look at whose talking, check your hand"

he's hand was still on his face so it's was easy to tell how he was slapped

"but how?"

he shouted

I quickly threw the leaf away and began to whistle

|... need to get rid of the evidence...|

"never mind about that,we have reached our destination"

"okay,so I wasn't in a night mare just now?"

he asked looking relieved 😌

"nightmare? what do you mean?"

I asked confused by his question

"oh, I had this crazy dream that I was in carriage with ,you, uncle Withward and aunt Layla, suddenly I was told that we were heading for the Imperial Academy and I didn't take that likely,last thing I remember was screaming my lungs out and now I'm awake"

he said while giving what seemed to be a forced smile

"it may interest you to know, that wasn't a dream"

I said trying to be as soft or lenient as I can but...

"wait,what?!!!!!"

it didn't seem to help

"so you're telling me I wasn't dreaming?"

he asked while eating his finger nails 💅,he does that only when he's nervous or scared

"is that a rhetorical question or....?"

I asked still puzzled by the way he's behaving

"so it is true"

he said after jumping out of the carriage and taking a good view of the environment

"so you'd expect me to be lying"

I asked no longer amused by his behavior

"I never said that,but I won't say I didn't think about it"

he said to me while slowly walking backward

"hey, why are you walking backward"

I asked now getting pissed by how immature he is right now

"so you won't be able to stop me when I..."

without finishing his sentence he turned back quickly and held the academy's gate but luckily

"Ouch!!!!!!!"

he was immediately electrocuted

luckily because,if he had done something stupid like escaping uncle Withward would be very disappointed with me and all the blame would have been on my head

and while he was being electrocuted, the purple crystal by the side of the gate shone brightly,

"hmmm, that's handy"

I said foreshadowing how Subaru's first few days in this Academy are going to be, that is, very ,very stressful for his superiors

"Subaru? Subaru? "

I said calling out to him,but it seems he was out cold,I couldn't carry him off the ground due to my stature and size so I left him there but fortunately

"sorry, I came a little bit late"

I heard a familiar voice and I turned back to see Uncle Withward

"oh you're back, where were you?"

I asked expecting a reasonable response

"I went to the stable to keep the horse and also feed it"

he replied while positioning his glasses well

"and how do you know where the stable was?"

I asked already having a possible answer in my head

"it's probably because I have come here before"

he said while smiling

"oh , seriously thought you were gonna say you were once a student here"

I said then chuckled a bit

"I was,but all that is in the past now"

he said looking a bit ashamed while putting one of his hand at the back of his head

"by the way what happened here?"

he asked pointing to Subaru who was lying unconscious on the ground

"that's a long story,but summary is ,it ended in him getting unconscious and also I don't think you should wake him up,if you do better put him on restraints"

I said while hitting Subaru ever so lightly

"oh I understand"

uncle Withward then went close to Subaru and picked him up

after we heard a sound coming from the huge Academy's front door,it seems someone was opening it, it was only opened a little bit,so much so as to allow a person pass through it and the person who came out was that blue haired young lady who talked to us previously,she came straight to us and said

"sorry for keeping you waiting , please shall we proceed?"

she asked not looking uncle Withward in the eye

|...at least she is no longer fidgeting...|

I thought

"lead the way"

uncle Withward said

she immediately turned her back and began to walk forward,uncle Withward followed after her and I did the same soon enough we were now inside the walls of the Imperial Academy.
