ADELE’S POV
My phone rang, and it was Jasper.
“It’s the guy,” I said to Maddie. “The engagement guy.”
She kicked my foot under the table and said, “Answer it!”
Nervously, I put the phone on speaker.
“Hey,” I said awkwardly.
“Hello beautiful,” Jasper said. “Hungry?”
I glanced at the half of a box of donuts I had devoured, and Maddie nodded her head continuously.
“I could eat,” I told Jasper. “I’m downtown at the cafe right now.”
“Great,” Jasper said. “I’m walking by right now. I’ll pick you up.”
“Then I’ll see you outside,” I replied. I hung up and exhaled.
“Oh!” Maddie exclaimed. “He sounds hot! I like him!”
I nodded and grinned.
“He’s pretty hot,” I admitted.
Maddie pulled her sunglasses down and peered outside the cafe’s window.
“Yeah,” she murmured, “but like, not that hot, right?”
I gathered my handbag and pulled Maddie by the hand.
“Nope!” I said. “That’s him alright.”
