72.5% Anti-System: the Fallen Angel / Chapter 29: Separated Friend

Capítulo 29: Separated Friend

Samael knows that the moment the mage commences his attack, the Situational Quest will appear and he will be forced to kill these three mages. Despite warning them about it, there's no point as the three wouldn't believe a suspected Erovian like him.

Even if he was put in their shoes, he knows that he would also not trust himself.

Raising his arms to block the incoming attack, he accepted and completely submit himself to the soon-to-come Situational Quest. No matter how much he tries to convince them, it would simply not work.

But as he awaits the mages' attacks, he received nothing of that sort.

Lowering his arms to see what had happened, Samael peeked to his front and saw an unexpected scene that made him suck in a cold breath. "W-What are you doing...?" he unconscious uttered.

Contrary to his expectations, the mage in the middle did something horrible.

Unsheathing the daggers sheathed on his waist, the mage in the middle cloaked them with fire before he stabbed his comrades from the back that were about to attack Samael. Each glanced over the shoulders in pure shock.

"A-Asher... w-why?" One of the stabbed mages spoke, blood drizzling down from his mouth.

The same goes for the other mage who also looked at the mage that stabbed him in the back with evident confusion and anger, none of them expected to be stabbed like this. Even Samael can't believe what he was seeing.

With an apologetic tone, the mage in the middle then said, "I'm sorry..."

After voicing an apology to the two mages for stabbing them from the back, the mage in the middle pulled out the daggers in a twisting motion which causes more damage. As he did this, the mages fell to both their knees and then to the ground with a light thud.

Samael watches as the two mages fall to the ground, he then gazes back at the mage.

Even though it was light, he somewhat heard the other killed mages call this mage a familiar name. "Asher...?" Samael mutters while trying to remember the name, he's quite sure that he has heard of that name before.

But then, the mage stepped forward before he opens his hood to reveal his face.

A man in his thirties peeked out from the mage's hood, his silver hair is long and trimmed neatly which makes him look younger. A pair of clear hazel eyes adorned the man's quite handsome face, that is if one didn't take into account the deep scar that ran down his right forehead to the left side of his chin.

Despite the changes throughout the years, Samael's eyes widened in realization.

For almost two years the two separated, and they were separated during the incident that leads to his parent's death. The man was Norman's comrade, he was hot-blooded back then and was angry when the usurpers used God's name lightly and faces them in battle.

Samael didn't expect that the man is still alive, he thought that the man was dead.

It was so surprising to see the man here as he even needs to rub his eyes a couple of times, trying to make sure that he was not just seeing things. "A-Asher! You're alive!" Samael exclaimed while still kneeling on the ground.

Upon hearing this, Asher smiled acutely in response before his eyes inspected Samael.

Even though he managed to recognize that this weird person is none other than Samael, he can't believe the changes that had happened to him. Not only was he has become a man, but his skin is also an unnatural shade of dark-ashen color.

Noticing the weird gaze, Samael looks at himself and remembered that he had changed.

Anyone that knows him from his home city would be surprised to see his appearance right now, he was even impressed that Asher managed to recognize him. "Lord Samael...? What happened to you?" Asher asked.

But then, his eyes widened, "Is this the power of good that you're talking about?!"

"Unfortunately, it's not..." Samael replied with a dejected sigh, but then he frown remembering something. "How do you know about that? We're separated all the way from the city, you shouldn't have known that" he added before his eyes turns wary.

Learning the hard way that he can't trust anybody easily, he becomes skeptical of Asher.

Asher didn't find any offense in Samael's reaction as he could tell that his young lord has probably gone through a lot, the same lord that he knew two years ago was not the same as this one. "Don't be mistaken, Lord Samael..."

"I stopped to fight the mages back then, but I managed to escape before I was surrounded after killing them. Ever since that day, I kept trying to search for you and Norman but I'm always one step too late. At the city of Palens, I met a bard that boasts about the fact that his fake story turns out to be true, and the bard told me about you" he explained clearly.

Samael lowers his suspicion when he heard this, Palens City is indeed where he met the bard.

Noticing that Samael's suspicion has lowered greatly, Asher glanced around the entire place that is riddled with destruction and dead bodies. It was a horrifying sight, one that he wouldn't even dare to think that it was Samael's doings.

But looking at him now, there's no telling what had happened in this place.

"Are you the one that did this...?" Asher asked hesitantly, being pretty careful with his words.

Upon hearing this, Samael paused for a brief moment and spark a loud silence between them. Eventually, he sprang up and ran to Asher, wrapping his arms around him. Tears streamed down his face stronger than before as he pressed his head into Asher's chest and started sobbing profusely.

"All my fault! I did this, Asher! I did this!" Samael wept, clutching Asher tightly.

Although he wanted to slowly accept that he was the one that caused this and there was nothing he could do to turn back time, his emotions break out once again with the presence of someone familiar to him.

Being alone in the hellish plane taught him the pain of loneliness in this dark world.

Caught in surprise by the sudden breakdown, Asher's body stiffened for a moment before he snap out of his daze and hugged Samael back while rubbing his head lightly. "You must've gone through a lot, Lord Samael. It's okay, you're okay..."

Even though he was confused as to how Samael is at fault, he decided to keep that for later.

Just from the dark ashen skin alone shows that something must've happened when he was pursuing this power of good, there's no other explanation than that. Moreover, the fact that Samael is alone here troubles Asher.

It was obvious, and he didn't need any confirmation. 'So you're not here anymore, huh...'

Without needing to hear the details of what had happened, Asher was certain that the Divine Sanctum of Divinity must've caught up to them and Norman had given his life in an effort to protect Samael. In Asher's eyes, only this kind of ending would befit such a strong man like Norman.

Any other way would not be befitting, he must've died like a clear hero.

Samael and Asher finally moved out of the city and take refuge in the forest a moment later, staying there wouldn't be good for Samael's mentality and thus Asher decided to bring him out of there.

Now the two of them are sitting around a small bonfire.

Just about ten minutes ago, Samael told him about what had happened to him when he managed to reach the Canyon of Virtue. He didn't leave a single detail, starting from the Divine Sanctum of Divinity, Norman's unbreakable will, and also Lily's betrayal.

A clear shock can be seen on Asher's face when Samael's story ended.

It was right then something clicked inside his mind, he realized something as soon as he heard Samael's story. "So that's how Lily managed to get there... she was the one that gained the power of good"

"Wait, you know where Lily is right now?!" Samael asked abruptly, his eyes wide open.

Asher firmly nod his head before he explained, wanting to appease Samael's mind, "When I saw the bounty on you was taken down a year ago, I- I thought that you were..." Shaking his head, he decided to skip that part. "A couple of months later, I caught the news that the Child of Light from the Divine Sanctum of Divinity has been appointed to someone called Lily"

"I thought that it was another Lily, but then I saw it was actually Lily the maid" he added.

Upon hearing this, Samael's expression darken as he received the news of Lily's whereabouts. Clutching both of his hands together tightly, he looked down to the ground, 'I can't believe it, she actually becomes the Child of Light...' he thought.

The Child of Light is a title given to the most talented new light mage.

From the fact that Lily gained the title alone shows that the System has given her an affinity to light elements, turning her from a normal human into a mage. Samael is clearly frustrated, the cues can be seen all over his facial expressions.

"I can't believe she would do that to you, her mother would be disappointed I'm sure"

Just as silence envelops the two of them once again, Samael then frowns remembering something that Asher said earlier. "Wait a minute, did you say that the bounty for me was taken down a year ago...?"

"Yes, that was around a year ago. Why?" Asher asked back with his eyebrows raised.

But this makes Samael's eyes widen in disbelief, and his mouth dropped open a moment in sheer shock as he deciphers what that actually means. 'D-Does that mean I was inside the hellish plane fighting the Demon Imps for a year? No way, that can't be right...'
