33.33% an Average Day for an Average Dragon / Chapter 14: New Home

Capítulo 14: New Home

After flying for the rest of the afternoon, I saw a strange thing on the horizon. It was a lone mountain, tall enough to pierce the clouds. I sensed that it was on a ley line intersection, and thought about living there. Surrounded by a dense forest, the gravelly sides of the mountain were very out of place. Part way up the mountain, the gravel disappeared and was completely replaced with stone. Near the peak, the mountain was completely covered in snow, and glimmered blindingly in the sun's light. After seeing the area's beauty I immediately promised myself that I would claim it as my own. It looks way cooler than my previous home, and humans would find it even harder to disturb me.

I flew to the mountain's steep stone sides before utilizing earth magic to create a large cave on the south side of the mountain as I saw no natural caves when I searched the mountain. I also added a little landing platform, so I could enter my cave a little easier. After expanding my cave to a size that I was happy with, I promptly lay down to sleep. The sun had set a long time ago, but I was busy making my cave so I couldn't sleep. Now that I had the chance, I lowered my tired body to the ground and sank into a peaceful slumber.

Meanwhile, at Rontu's previous home, a familiar person appeared at the mouth of the cave. Ray had travelled here against the advice of his party, and had watched the cave for almost 3 days. The dragon had not appeared at any time, and Ray was now trying to encourage himself to enter the cave.

'It hasn't appeared at all in the past two days. It will be fine. Even if it's still inside, it will be weakened and I should be able to kill it.' Ray said to himself. However, his paranoid mind swiftly retorted, 'But what if the dragon is on a hunting trip? If it returned while I'm inside the cave, I'll be finished!'

Not able to endure this back and forth in his mind any longer, Ray decided to rush into the cave. As he did so, he discovered the lack of a ferocious dragon, which relieved him greatly. "I'll finally be able to get my armour back!" he whispered to himself, a little too excited. This armour was the sign of a human hero, and only those who qualified were allowed to use it.

With the fading light of the sun, Ray investigated the inside of the cave, only to be extremely disappointed by the lack of treasure. Dragons in story books always had massive treasure hoards, but the dragon Ray encountered was very odd. It was powerful enough to kill him and his party members easily, and it had multiple chances to, but it didn't, and it further went to return his party back to a safe area in the forest after they had been defeated. It didn't have a massive treasure hoard, it actually had nothing apart from the items it stole from him and his party members. It also displayed each piece in the wall to show them off. It had even created a pedestal for Ellie's staff. It was simple and made only of rock, but it was a pedestal none the less. When Ray finally saw his beloved armour, he thought it had been crushed into the wall, and nearly fainted on the spot. But after strengthening his heart, the hero bravely inspected how his armour was doing, only to find it positioned inside specially made holes in the wall. He breathed a big sigh of relief when he saw his missing armour pieces in the display. There were enough spaces for his entire suit of armour, but he was still wearing most of it. Ray quickly reclaimed his armour, only to fall into despair. One piece was still missing! Ray checked again and again, but he still did not find his beloved revebrace. That dragon had obviously taken it somewhere else and hidden it; Ray would never find it on his own, and the only way to get it back was to find that weird dragon.

"I HATE YOUUUU"

After a great night's sleep Rontu further explored the area around his new home. Just like he saw yesterday, the mountain was completely alone within a massive, dense forest. To the east of the mountain was a large lake, which sparkled brilliantly in the light of the morning sun. I was immensely pleased with this area, and I set off to officially claim this land as my own. To do this, I flew a certain distance from the mountain, before lightly scratching a tree every so often to form a perimeter. If this intersected another monster's land, they would howl/roar/etc to attract my attention, then we would fight for our land. This has never happened to me though, as monsters can tell the strength of others fairly well. If any territory is completely inside mine, they would effectively gain my protection, as I would guard the borders. However, some monsters would be too proud to accept this and challenge the one who created the new borders. This has happened to me, and the process would be like this: They challenge me, I easily defeat them, they run away. If they wanted to, I would let them stay, but they always ran off.

With my new territory marked out, I only needed to wait a few days and beat the monsters who challenge me before being able to call this land mine.
