An hour had passed since Dante sent the coachman to fetch the doctor. He paced the halls impatiently, his footsteps muted by the plush Persian floor runners. The Count heard the carriage arrive at the front of the mansion. The butler greeted Dr. Howell at the entry and showed him to the second floor. Dante had returned to Rose's room in anticipation of speaking with the doctor about Rose's current condition.
"Your Grace, the physician, has arrived. Should I bring him into the room?" Carrick questioned.
"Yes," was the only thing the Count said to the butler. He stood at the end of the bed, petting Oscar and staring at Rose. Dante was worried she wouldn't wake up again. He had watched her pass out after retching in a basin for an hour.
