I lay by my father's side and shook his arm, hoping for his response. Even a word would be more than enough.
I picked up the silver sword that had fallen on the ground, shoved it into his hand, wiped the blood from the corners of his mouth, and said with a catch in my voice, "I won't dodge. Please, just wake up and kill me. Whatever you do, just don't leave me."
I didn't get any response. Beth walked to me and put her hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me. I knew that nothing could be changed, yet I still could not accept the reality.
