Capítulo 14: Chapter 8-3: A Wave That Changed the Silence

Since the government hadn't been able to find out his actual location yet, it made them more likely to get kidnapped and get into trouble.

As long as everything was unclear about the organization and its location, the explanation of this situation compared to the main point at that time was understandable.

Kaden, who hadn't missed any of the changes, finally straightened up, concluding monotonously, then returned as a loving and understanding figure like any good big brother.

"Take care of your lessons, and rest well" he said, opening the door and continuing.

“If I find out later that you were hiding something from me and don’t come clean sooner, I won’t be able to help”

This statement in itself was a coded threat before leaving, without expelling them.

'Insolent and provocative'

Half an hour later, Kayden left first, followed by the three of them separately.

All the while, the rest acted as if they hadn't seen anything and were busy with their own work.

In exchange, Maggie helped Lucy and Rachel prepare dinner. Nam Shin and Danielle also supervised the distribution and arrangement of dishes.

Leon took out two large bottles of fresh juice and filled the glasses, while Taiga began to cut the bread.

The fragrant and delicious smell of English food was overwhelming the place.

The dishes included white beans with tomato sauce.

Bread and sausages with eggs and grilled tomatoes. Grilled meat and mushrooms, with tea.

When everyone gathered around the table, the atmosphere immediately calmed down.

Around nine o'clock, Becca left with Lucy and Taiga.

After some time, Leon followed them and Shin slept with Caroline; while Kristen settled with Maggie and Rachel in his house for Kayden.

The latter, took a thoughtful look at her and then left her.

The situation was confusing and uncomfortable.

'This person... must not know anything about what will happen in the dark in the future, and remain in the light'

Because then, one of them would have had to become a victim of solitary confinement and become crazy.

Chapter 9: Talent harvester

//At home//

//Mayfair Street//

Inside the room, where Caroline lay comfortably on the bed.

She took a light shower without having to touch her hair, then put on a nice, warm yellow pajama and resumed reading.

‘The Bachelor’

The cover title of the book was catchy, which had drawn her in; after a chance encounter with it via an online app.

And because today was special, Leon didn’t dare to intrude or try to do anything that would increase the distance between them.

In the end, he was still human and he felt guilty.

After more than 10 pages, Caroline felt satisfied and enjoyed reading.

When the clock approached 10:45 PM, her tablet made a special chime indicating that a message had arrived for the group.

Immediately after that, she closed the book and placed it on the top of the drawer next to the bed.

After that, she left a bookmark with a classic autumn tree background on the page she stopped at and entered the chat.

‹Is everyone asleep?› The question was asked, waiting for a response.

And The first thing that met her was the resumed letter from Becca.

‹Oh, I’m fine. Lucy is watching TV right now. I’m also used to staying up late. So no one will suspect me›

Kristen, who was usually active 24 hours a day, took a little longer than the three dots dancing across the app at the bottom of the screen to respond.

Then she sent an innocent emoji, coinciding with her reaction.

‹Well, that’s good› Becca sighed with a shallow, crooked smile.

‹It's obviously going to be uncomfortable for the next few days› Kristen commented with an unclear ambiguity.

'Cayden's suspicions were a real obstacle to them if he was to be right'

‹I'll send the report. It may be incomplete, but I'm still working on it› she added.

On the other hand, Caroline kept reading the responses silently, with her eyes and didn't comment on the matter much.

Only her, she responded positively, coinciding with Becca’s responses.

‹Okay›

‹As agreed›

‹Let's meet at the Memory Restaurant, that'll be more convenient› This was the last message from Becca before they closed the chat.

When you return to the report shown at the top of the screen, which was recently sent as a file; she tapped it lightly before reading it.

On the first page, the report collected personal and professional information about Goren Santori, accompanied by a photo of him as a young child and a young man.

His family was of average and well-to-do status.

His father worked as a teacher in England, in the countryside. While his mother was an ordinary nurse before settling in the house a few months before his birth.

He was a successful and ambitious person.

And because his level of education was too high to stay there and study, his parents sold the house there and moved to the city as soon as possible in order to complete his studies.

When he graduated, it was difficult for him to find a good job and make a comfortable living.

So, he moved from one part-time job to another, until half a year had passed.

One day, a meeting was requested with him at one of the 4-star restaurants, in a private room.

It was a kind of lucrative deal with hidden motives.

And because he was young, in his early twenties, he seemed safe despite his awareness.

With his honorable results and lack of knowledgeable connections, he was listed as an official principal at the prestigious Brad Ford High School with accomplishments.

The person he met that day was wearing a classic hat with camouflage features, really difficult to spot under dim lighting.

In exchange for high pay and prestige, he was required to monitor the most distinguished and genius students.

The grants abroad and the trips were just a cover for his illegal activities.

The supply and demand were simple.

Since he had never met the real boss, he dealt under the guise of one of his peers.

On the second page of the report, a logo of an underworld organization was listed in bold, dark letters.

‘Genome’

The sound of the name was chilling, like the hair standing up all over the body, leaving a cold sweat that was difficult to clean.

For a moment, Caroline was overcome by stillness, and she crouched in her place, stiff as she could catch her breath.
