Chapter 43: Across the Line
Holly Adams POV:
Andy and I waited outside the apartment for Philips to arrive. When he did, it was with a dozen cruisers and a pair of SWAT vans. Apparently, his superiors didn’t want to waste this opportunity.
And despite being the ones who presented this opportunity, to say Philips was angry at us for disobeying his instructions was … a bit of an understatement.
“You were specifically ordered to stay out of it!” Philips seethed at us. He focused on me. “Your Sergeant warned me that you had a reputation as a troublemaker, Corporal Adams. I’m beginning to see where she was coming from.”
“Ex-Sergeant,” I corrected. “There’s actually a video of her being fired. Do you want to see it?”
Andy was already pulling out his phone.
“No,” Philips told us.
The phone went away.
“Fair enough,” I agreed. “But does it really count as making trouble if it’s what helped me, and Andy find all the evidence against King and the people pulling the strings?”
