Yikes. Connecting the dots, it seemed like Mila and Jonathan's engagement had already been announced in political circles and that was why her senator father was so furious about the scandal. It made sense that paparazzi pictures of an engaged man with someone else would make waves. 

All this time, Drew had thought they had simply dated. Breaking off an engagement was much worse. He hadn't realized his assistant was such a scumbag. No wonder Leo treated him terribly every time they saw each other.

Poor Mila. She always seemed to get the short end of the stick, didn't she? At least she had this overly devoted furball on her side. And now him by extension. 

He couldn't believe he was actually doing this but here he was. He had met her in the least conventional way possible and, by all means, shouldn't care because of what had happened between them but he couldn't help it. There was something about her that drew him in.
