In a room far away from Shiro and Charlotte, a loud 'bang' could be heard as a man in glasses dressed in a white suit slams his fist against his desk.
"Damn you, Frigg..."
He mutters those words as he recalls the events of what happened before, how the girl managed to look at her while still keeping her life. He thought everything was going according to plan, he thought that Frigg wouldn't be stupid enough to follow along with such a task, yet Frigg pulled it off, much to everyone's astonishment.
"S-sir..." A woman's voice enters the room; his attendant. Her voice much more feeble than normal as she has never seen her master get this heated.
"What." The man responds in a dry manner, turning his head to the sound coming from behind him.
"N-nevermind..." She wanted to report something, but decided it was better to wait for her master to have a clear mind.
"I was this close... This close!" He balls up his fists against the table, the same place where he made a large crater. "With a weapon like that, I could've fought back against those damn blood suckers."
Bloodsuckers, a term used primarily for vampires. Many other species have their own derogatory names, but vampires being called bloodsuckers are quite common due to the percentage of criminal activity.
"You mean the girl?" The woman asks the man, thinking that maybe he's calmed down a bit.
"Of course, the girl! I've waited years to get my hands on her, to get her out of that place. And I finally got an opportunity thanks to their Lieutenant!" His voice darkens at he mentions Charlotte, exuding a much thicker aura that forces the woman to take a few steps back just to be able to breathe.
"I finally managed to convince that stupid General, but look how that turned out!" Again, he slams his fist down, almost breaking the table by this point as his aura only thickens more. "Now Frigg has free reign? What a joke... She's just a dog that licked her way up the ladder. Ah-"
In the next moment, his aura finally dissipates enough for the woman to enter further inside as she readjusts the collar of her shirt.
"Si-"
"Gale."
"Y-yes!" The woman was about to say something, but got cut off before she could even get a word out.
"What's my schedule for next week?'
"You only have a meeting with the police on Thursday regarding a kidnapping incident."
"That's all?"
"Yes, sir."
"Clear it. The authorities can deal with it. Make sure not to make any plans for the next few weeks."
"Sir?" The woman questions her master, sensing that he must have something in mind as he stands up straight, facing the window.
"I want you to remain at that facility. Let me know about any information regarding the girl and Major Frigg. You're to remain there until further instructions."
"Yes, understood."
The woman bows before making her leave, not bothering about bringing up what she wanted to earlier as she gets changed, ready to head out.
"Now then-"
The man however picks up a phone before dialing a number, his sharp, smug smile returning to his face as he hears the call get picked up.
"Hi, it's me. Are you busy?" He asks while taking a seat at his table, tidying up a few things that had toppled over with his free hand.
"Good. I'd like to ask for your assistance with a certain matter..."
The call continues through the night lasting roughly five minutes before the man in glasses finally hangs up.
"This should do for now." He says while finishing up the last bit of touches on his table. Of course the massive dent was still there as restoration magic is quite a difficult magic to master. One wrong step and you'd cause more damage than before.
"Guess I'll start work on my end as well."
The man feeling satisfied, leaves the building through the main entrance. Now that he's outside, he lights a cigarette from out of his breast pocket as the smoke travels through the air. Looking in a certain direction, he begins moving. The people walking by him immediately moves out of his way with worried looks in their eyes. In this area, everyone knows of his existence as a hybrid, which does make many people fear him, scared to not get on his bad side.
"Tch." The man clicks his tongue before taking in another inhale of the cigarette before letting it out on the man that just passed him.
Even though he's used to this, it still bothers him that people make him out to be some kind of dangerous person. Of course because of being a hybrid, it's true, but because of that, he never really made friends and instead used money to pay for companionship; much like his attendant from earlier.
"The girl wouldn't do that." He thinks to himself as he continues his walk. Thinking that the girl wouldn't have any prejudice for a hybrid like him.
"Okay~ We'll stop for today."
"Nn."
Charlotte and I end up leaving Luna's lab before meeting back up with her in the dining area. It's been a bit over a week now since the visit at that facility and things have been going well I'd say, and just recently I'm now able to look at Luna in her eyes without a sudden spike in heat in my chest, which also left her not worrying about combating against my mana.
"How'd it go?" Once we entered the dining area, Luna greeted us while looking over some documents.
"Still the same." Charlotte gives a response to what we did in the lab.
With Lisa now in charge of what we do, she decided it was best for me to focus on controlling my mana rather than going out to do jobs, which is exactly what we've been doing this past week. Unfortunately however, I still have no idea how to control it as I have yet to kill a goblin, I can't even make a scratch.
"Sorry..." I end up apologizing to Charlotte, knowing that I'm taking up time.
"It's okay~" But just like the days before, she pats me on the head, replying in a sweet voice.
Even now, I still get that warm sensation when Charlotte's with me, with or without the mask now. Our relationship has more or less gone back to how it used to be, but that night during the celebration was the last time we shared a bath.
I've come to understand it a bit better though. It's the same thing as kissing from what Lisa and Luna have told me. It's normal to share a bath with siblings or your parents when you're young, but when people are around my age, they tend to only share baths with very close friends or lovers. And that's where my mind's been at since then, wondering how exactly I see Charlotte. I like to think that we're close friends...
It's a bit frustrating since I know for sure I want to take a bath with her, but I wouldn't say I'd want to kiss her. It's not that I hate the idea, but it's still hard for me to see the point of it. So then would that make me somewhere in between? I'm not sure. Either way, Charlotte seems to be happy so I shouldn't worry too much over it.
"I've made tea for you two, but I do need to attend to the front." Luna chimes in, already presenting us with two cups of tea, of course with blood mixed in.
"Thank you." We both say our thanks at the same time as we watch Luna walk out from the corner.
I didn't know this before, but this building Luna is in charge of is actually a store, something similar to the place where Charlotte bought my clothes. But instead of selling clothes, it sells blood.
Apparently it's not just vampires that require blood, but is also used for other species as well. I also learnt that apart from humans, all species have mana inside them, including their blood. Vampires are able to harness all the mana from the blood they digest, but apparently it varies with other species. Some might harness only half or even a quarter, with humans being unable to harness any at all. It's because of this that the people that do come visit Luna's blood lab are demi-humans. Of course those customers aren't allowed where Charlotte and I are, so it's safe for me to keep my mask off.
"Don't worry about it too much, okay? It took me months to finally figure out how to even make a small flame." Charlotte spoke while sipping at the tea, which I also did the same.
"Can everyone make a flame?" I ask this simply because that's all I've seen so far.
Back during Charlotte's fight with that Furor group, they used fire magic as well. There was that woman who also water magic as well, but since she was in a park, I figured maybe she didn't use fire magic because of all the grass and trees around her.
"Technically yes. Everyone can use any element of magic, however people are born with biases. For example, if someone is born at a lakeside, they tend to develop water magic much easier."
Hearing that explanation leads me to believe that maybe because I grew up in darkness that maybe I don't have any of those 'biases' that Charlotte said.
"So then, can you also use other elements?"
"A bit." She then puts down her cup before lifting her palm up, and in the next moment, a ball of water gradually grows out of thin air, hovering over her palm. "So far all I can use is fire and water magic. I grew up with the bias of fire, but I figured I needed to learn water magic in case something bad were to happen."
"You mean if your flames were to spread?"
"Exactly" She replies as the water ball vanishes in her hand as she picks up the cup once more.
"Is there a way to tell what bias I have?" It's a shot in the dark on my end, but maybe there is a way.
"Hehe, no. As far as I know, people can't read what kind of magic people have."
"But your mom. She could sense my mana." Back when she first examined me, she could tell that my mana was extremely volatile, right?
"Ah~ That's just reading someone's aura using mana sense."
"Mana sense?"
"We can get around to it later. We still need to get you to be able to use magic first, hehe."
Yeah, that's the goal right now, but I'm a little excited to learn more about this 'mana-sense.' Still though... It took months for Charlotte months to make that flame? At least now I have some sort of idea how long this will take.
