I have seen a lot of review that complained about the first "chapter" and the fact that this novel was released without being "voted". So I decided to address those things, from a fan to another. The first chapter was some kind of preview, I won't deny that I was confused myself but I recommend that we keep a open mind about those things. As for the fact that it was released out of nowhere it is because it was just released in China. ...i personally am very excited and hopeful for this novel, I love the autor and the translator is a good one, so I hope that people give it a chance and don't judge it for it's beginning, and let's not forget that this autor is know for ****** a slow story but with great development and characters.

I warmly recommend this novel. It is very refreshing and original. Translation Quality: Overall, I have been satisfied by the language quality. English is fine. However, assessing this particular aspect is always hard since I don't understand Chinese and i'm not a professional translator (Translation is a very peculiar exercice and requires dedication). English is not my mother tongue either. Update Stability: The team has usually kept the daily schedule. Moreover, the author has not published much more chapters so there is no point in expecting a quicker pace for the updates. Story development: The novel is one of a kind on this website. By any means, it is a Xanxia novel. Yet, the writer gives a mysterious, otherworldly mood to his story and to the characters. For once, we feel that pursuing immortality is a journey for the protagonist, that he becomes something different than the "common folk" ("similar" to the Selbstüberwindung from Nietzche perhaps). Character Design: Very satisfied. The focus is on Jing Jiu but the other characters are given enough attention to feel real. Relationships and backgrounds are rich. World Building: The world feels coherent and real: a well done typical Xanxia (Martial Sects, etc.) with a complex background, which is being developed along the story (Nothing has been dumped violently). Furthermore, the story has not fallen in this unpleasant cliché: this continent is a small backward island, there are skies beyond skies, etc.

When it reaches a climax I feel it will be exciting, the MC is incredibly qualified and the main antagonist is one of the smartest antagonist I've seen. The plot is complex and there's lot of characters if you can't keep up with Nightfall or Way of Choices, this is not for you.

Some people might think that withholding information from the reader, in what it feels like every chapter, is interesting and gives a sense of mystery. Although the author explains some things in a chapter there are always more things that are left unexplained. I think its nice in the first 30-40 chapters but after that it ends up tiresome and boring and that, imo , hurts the novel which seems to have great potential.

What do you get when you combine a Xia MainCharacter cultivator with sherlock holmes and then mix in one of sergio leones Namless western film heroes. Well the answer is in this book and this book only! BADASS and COOL and not in a flashy hollywood way but a more elegant sneaky execution. I often compare it in my head to the old clint eastwood western were 2 characters would just stare at each other for 5min while music was going on then someone would say a single word then leave. This is a Chinese story with a very large cast of character VERY LARGE as in 40+ Chinese names. To me personally remembering a single Chinese name is similar to memorizing a 8 digit random number. But lest we dont have 10 characters with the same last name you can mostly remember them by their affiliation clan and role so it could be worse.

By far the best novel on this site. The plot is surprisingly interesting, riddled with meandering but welcome complexity that unravels over time. The characters too are multi layered with memorable personalities, which only serves to foster great empathy towards them and their cause from the reader. You can also detect social commentary on the xianxia genre when you read between the lines. I just wish the translation quality was better. This is seriously a shining gem in the sea of mediocrity and trash that encapsulates 99.9% of this site. Give it a read if you have an appreciation for thoughtful plotting, complex characters and terrific world building.

One of the better written cultivation stories. Doesn't have super-rapid power growth, or ridiculous "enemy-of-the-week" type foes to outgrow and then humiliate. Rather, focuses on character development and more rationally driven human interaction, with subtle plots and schemes lurking in the background.

The novel ended. I recommend looking for it's raw, it really is worth it. The translation on the webnovel stopped at a point where the author was detailing a lot, this for some may be a little boring, but soon after it returns to a very pleasant rhythm and chaotian appears again. As for the philosophical ending, immortality transcends the mind itself, the self must be abandoned in order to achieve it. After all, who knows if it's possible, it needs faith and just keep going. It was a good ending, characters were not forgotten, it is not a complete ending since there are situations to resolve, but I was satisfied. I like stories of Mao Ni, for me they are always very good., I hope to see new works soon, thank you.
