Gao Yang had thought he would stay in Portland for a few days, at least until he and Glolov's wounds were completely healed, but they only spent a day there, indulging in a wild party at Arilan Morson's studio, and didn't return home until late. Then, the next morning, Bob hurried Gao Yang to get back on the road with them, and this time, Bob stubbornly refused to disclose their destination.

It was another long journey, and one where the destination was unknown; Gao Yang could only guess their whereabouts through the road signs along the way.
