Capítulo 15: [Christmas Gift] Aren't We Going to Catch Werewolves?
"Yes!" Ryuji hugged Samir excitedly. Thankfully, he was still sane enough to refrain from kissing him. "Thank you! Thank you!"
Samir stared in confusion. Was this guy gay?
Diana: "???"
Steve: "Uh… what?"
Ryuji finally let go of Samir, grinning as he patted him on the shoulder.
"Wait… You can speak English now?" Diana frowned, her suspicion growing.
"No, I just learned it," Ryuji said casually, ignoring her disbelief. "It's a kind of magic called 'Talent Duplication,' which lets me replicate someone's talent and use it for myself."
Ryuji then glanced toward Carlos, smirking.
"Carlos, weren't you curious why I shook hands with everyone back on the island? That's why—Talent Duplication. The success rate is incredibly low, but I finally picked up 'Linguistic Talent.'" Ryuji sighed dramatically. "Madan, it feels great to finally understand what people are saying."
Carlos blinked in realization, glancing at Diana.
"So that's why he kept shaking hands with people," she said. "I thought he was just a pervert."
Ryuji turned toward Diana with a mischievous grin. "I love you!" He said it in English, French, German, Spanish, and even several obscure African dialects.
Diana stared blankly, caught off guard. "...Why are you telling me that?"
Steve rubbed his temples. "Alright! Now that Ryuji can actually talk to us, let's celebrate with a drink."
As they sat down, Samir looked curious. "Magic… Is there really such a thing as magic in this world?"
"Of course," Ryuji replied confidently.
He dipped his finger into his drink and drew a few strange symbols on the table.
"Try it," he said, motioning toward the empty wine glass.
"Try what?" Samir asked, baffled.
"Push it," Ryuji instructed.
Samir skeptically pushed the glass, only to feel a sudden, immovable resistance. It was as if he had hit a solid wall. His face turned red as he strained against it, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
"What the…?" Samir gasped, staring at Ryuji in shock.
Charlie, who had been silent while nursing his drink, tried it too, only to find the same strange resistance. He blinked hard and muttered under his breath: "Magic…"
Diana rolled her eyes, though she was clearly impressed. This man was full of surprises.
Meanwhile, Charlie was too drunk to be amazed for long. Grabbing two more glasses, he toasted Steve. "May God bless you, mate—it's good to see you again!"
Steve sighed, mumbling under his breath. "I feel like I'm about to die when you say that."
"So, what's the job this time, boss?" Samir asked cautiously.
"We need to get to Belgium," Steve replied. "We'll need supplies and passes, but we'll make it work."
"How much does this job pay?" Charlie asked, squinting.
"Uh… It's for a noble cause," Steve said. "Freedom. Ending the war."
Samir smirked knowingly. "So you don't have any money."
Steve sighed. "No."
Samir pointed at Ryuji. "You've got a powerful magician with you. Aren't we going to catch werewolves… or vampires… or maybe a headless horseman?"
Steve looked exasperated. "No! And stop calling him a magician."
Just then, the tavern door creaked open, and Etta Candy, Steve's secretary, appeared.
"You're here!" she said cheerfully. "Sorry I'm late."
"Sir Patrick?" Diana exclaimed when she spotted the man behind Etta.
Sir Patrick smiled warmly as he approached. "Ah, gentlemen—and Miss Prince. I suppose you're planning something that could land you in court or worse."
Steve shot him a wary look. "I assume you're here to stop us?"
"Quite the opposite," Sir Patrick said, placing a thick envelope on the table. "What you're doing is brave and honorable. Take this—it should cover your expenses."
"Thank you, Sir!" Steve said, relieved.
Diana smiled warmly. "He's a good man."
Ryuji, however, chuckled darkly as he sipped his gin. "Good man? Diana, let me teach you something. In this world, never trust appearances."
Diana frowned. "What do you mean?"
Ryuji's expression turned serious. "Just now, I felt something strange. My ability to sense magic flow was blocked."
Diana's brows furrowed. "Magic flow? What does that mean?"
"It means his power is far beyond mine," Ryuji explained. "And I can't see through his true nature."
Steve looked stunned. "Wait… Are you saying Sir Patrick is a magician?"
"I didn't say that," Ryuji replied. "I said his power is above mine."
The door to the tavern suddenly creaked open again, and two familiar figures stepped inside. Ryuji froze, staring in disbelief.
"Pfft—!"
Ryuji spat out his drink in shock, spraying it all over Charlie's face.
Charlie wiped his face with a groan. "What the hell, man?"
Ryuji didn't answer. He just gawked at the newcomers, his mind racing.
