50% Reverse Beast-Taming: Unlocking The Hidden System / Chapter 4: Four: A Stronger Half

Capítulo 4: Four: A Stronger Half

Mor watched closely as the red-headed LoriHaden dashed forward with the courage and tenacity of a battle-hardened Amyntor as opposed to a Seedling attempting her first battle. She ran with a speed almost inhumane, so she covered the distance between her and the rock creature in seconds.

Capitalizing on the fact that the creature had yet to see her, she took the first strike on one of its four legs. But despite the fact that she gave it her all, she barely made a dent on its stone body.

Finally noticing her, it abandoned its docile demeanor and took on an aggressive disposition. It formed fists with its hands and slammed at LoriHaden.

Mor almost jumped forward when he saw this, but to his surprise, she had escaped its attack just in time.

"Come on Lor." Her sister MayHaden had whispered, pulling Mor's attention.

He didn't know if she would succeed, at least not with this one. But maybe another. They would stay here for a week anyhow, so there was a high chance she would succeed later if she failed now.

Though Mor thought this logically, he refrained from telling it to her sister, so as to not bring down her spirits.

Returning his sights to LoriHaden, he saw her leaping into the air, aiming for what Mor did not know exactly. It's not like it had a head.

As though answering Mor's question, LoriHaden took a swing at one of the creature's tentacle arms, the joint in which a shimmering blackness was seeping out of it. She hit her mark, and though once more it caused no damage, it did make the creature stagger backwards. Giving her another opportunity to land, leap into the air again, and strike the creature in the same spot, causing it to stagger once more.

"Yes!" MayHaden exclaimed, but MorDrigin wasn't sharing in her jubilation, because he was noticing something she was doing wrong.

LoriHaden continued to strike the exact same spot, causing the creature to continuously stagger backwards. She probably attempted to take one of its tentacle arms off, but she made a mistake. She had forgotten what crucial thing she was taught about these creatures.

Leaping into the air and getting ready for another strike, the stone creature somehow recovered from its stagger faster than it was supposed to, then it grabbed her with both tentacle arms, wrapped them around her, and began to squeeze.

Before anyone could exclaim, be surprised, LoriHaden disappeared from the stone creature's grasp. And in the blink of an eye, she was in front of them all. With TayDrigin holding onto her.

"Are you okay?" TayDrigin had asked a shocked LoriHaden.

In this moment, all eyes had widened, including that of Mor's. Though he was already used to Watchers coming in and saving Seedlings last moment, the speed at which his mother had done it was otherworldly.

"Lady TayDrigin?" LoriHaden had said, dazed and shocked.

"Are you hurt?" TayDrigin had asked LoriHaden once more.

Then, turning her sights to the stone creature a distance away, LoriHaden realized what had just happened, causing her to blurt.

"No Lady Drigin, please don't take me out. It was a mistake."

"No, you've had your chance. It's time for the next Seedling." TayDrigin had said with a stern voice that was still somehow soft and gentle. Hearing this LoriHaden did not object, no matter how much she wanted to.

"Don't worry, you'll get in next time." TayDrigin said with a smile, which helped LoriHaden feel a little better.

Her sister came up and touched her shoulder.

"You go May." LoriHaden said to her twin with a faint smile. Then she handed her hammer over to TayDrigin.

Looking at them, Mor somehow saw himself mirrored in the two sisters. He wondered if one of them would succeed while the other would fail. Though that was something he wouldn't wish upon anyone, he still couldn't help himself but to wonder.

And he also wondered if the gloomy boy would succeed. Because there was something undeniably similar between Mor and him.

Pulling his thoughts away, Mor had discovered that the other sister MayHaden — if he remembered correctly — was already dashing into the foray. She had with her a rapier of sleek design. Mor thought this to be a strange weapon of choice, but remembering what his sister, mother, and his entire family as a whole wielded, he shut his mouth.

Fixating on the girl, Mor was astonished by how proficient the ten-year-old girl was with her weapon. She had already lashed out at the stone creature. Dodging its blows like a fairy while jabbing at it with her rapier.

While her sister boosted more brute force and forwardness. MayHaden was more sly. She evaded more than she advanced, and she defended more than she attacked. But if Mor were to guess, there was something about her which her sister lacked.

Patience and planning. Looking at her, Mor could see she was testing out her weapon on the stone creature. She took jabs at strategic points on its body, checking for the weakest spot. And before Mor's very eyes, she finally lunged at the stone creature with her all. Jabbing at its joint that shimmered blackness. Then, with a slide of her rapier, it moved through the joint and to everyone's surprise, sliced its right tentacle off.

Gasps flew into the air, but MorDrigin held his reaction. He just continued to watch.

And he saw that instead of her to make the mistake of reveling in her one victory, Mor noticed her tense up, like she was preparing for the worst.

'She's smart.' Mor thought as he watched her evade the stone creature's now frenzied attack. It was evidently angry, but with that anger, it lost its sense of self-preservation. Which in normal cases would be a bad thing for its opponent. But being someone who was expecting it, MayHaden evaded and kept her eyes open.

Then, when she saw an opening, she struck. One jab at a joint, then a slide. One of the creature's crab-like legs tore off.

Doing so had unbalanced it. And capitalizing on this, MayHaden took another jab at its arm joint. Sliding her rapier across it, she successfully took it off. Everyone was astounded by May's display, but Mor held his breath.

Now left with no arms, May didn't let it breathe. She took its three legs this time, almost in the same span of time, so the creature was now defenseless. Then, leaping into the air. MayHaden pointed the tip of her rapier at a crevice in the middle of the stone creature's chest.

She fell, plunged her rapier into the crevice and the creature came apart in a burst of rocks and black clouds.
