Mei suddenly stopped dead on her track as she stood still and confronted the Kōtotsu. She pressed her palms together and after pulling her two palms apart, created a green cuboid of light between them. The spell encompasses the surrounding area and is able to halt the time of anything within causing the walls to not completely stop but also temporarily slow down to help them buy some time.
SHOOOOM!!!
BOOOOOOOM!!!
When they were almost out of the gate, suddenly there was a loud explosion from inside the gate and then sounds like fireworks rang out, shooting everyone out of that gate in waves. Making them all fall like a firecracker at the same place.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
THOOOMM!
"Whoa!"Fortunately, Orhime had summoned a large triangular yellow energy shield to support the six people, otherwise they would all have been crushed to pieces. She breathed a sigh of relief and asked everyone, only her and Chad landed in a normal position. "Is everyone.... all right!?"
As for Ishida, his face was facing the ground with his butt in the air, Ichigo was falling on his head. And as for Mei... Well she was falling around the corner of the shield, her upper body fell to the ground, and her lower body was still on the shield, but still, she still raised a hand with a thumbs up.
"Wow! Ichigo, that's a cool landing pose!!" Orihime was excited and grinned seeing Ichigo land on the ground in such a cool fashion.
"Ow.... Geez, what a trip that was.... Worse than I expected..." Ishida sat up and rubbed his head while Chad was pulling Mei up and shaking her to see if she was okay. Ishida then muttered to himself, pulling out another cloak, making everyone stunned. He brought a spare....? "I can't believe I have to haul out my spare cape already...."
"What were you thinking!!"
"Woa.... What a strange experience.... ECK!" Mei sat up after she had recovered her energy when Yoruichi used his fluffy head to hit Mei's right eye, causing her to whine in surprise. She immediately hid behind Orihime when Yoruichi scolded her for acting like an angry cat, but didn't dare do anything.
"Did you not hear a single word I said!? Luckily it was only your hand didn't touch the Kōtotsu! Had it been your head only has peach mochi in it!? You would've been snatched up along with them!! And you'd be dead!!"
"S.... Sorry...." Now Mei is like a sulky cat, fluffing her fur and acting like a babe after being scolded by her owner. She muttered an apology while hiding behind Orihime. But what Mei remembered was that she had never learned anything magical like before. Or is it her body's memory?
When she did the creating a green cuboid of light move, she looked extremely natural, like she had done many times before. Well, she doesn't remember many memories of her former self anyway. So she just shrugged off that familiar feeling.
"You don't have to be so hard on her! We'd all be dead if they hadn't doing what they did!" Ichigo crossed his arms and spoke back to Yoruichi, trying to defend his two friends.
"You fail to grasp the gravity of the matter...."
"Hey! The dust is settling!" Ishida looked around as he put on the new spare cloak he brought with him. The scene gradually became clearer after the dust from their collision gradually cleared away, revealing many houses made of wood and straw like those from the Edo or Heian period.
"This... Is the Soul Society?"
"Yes. This is the Slum District... Commonly known as Rukongai, the drifting spirit town." Yoruichi nodded his head as he looked around to see who was there and answered Ichigo's question. "It's where souls live when they first come to the Soul Society. It lies outside the walls of the Seireitei where the Soul Reaper live."
"It's the poorest-but freest- part of the Soul Society. The majority of the Konpaku live there."
"Really? It looks deserted..." Ishida asked curiously as he looked around. There was not a single population or soul at all.
"Yeah... Hey? The town looks totally different over there." Ichigo saw another place with many buildings that looked a bit more modern than the one they were looking at, but perhaps he didn't notice a strangely perpendicular depression in the ground. He was excited and quickly ran there but little did he know it was not a normal perpendicular depression, without waiting for Yoruichi to explain at all. "I know! That's where the Soul Reapers live, right?"
"Wa.... Wait, fool! Don't get too close!! You'll die!!"
"Huh!?"
THOOOOM!
Ichigo turned his head to look back at Yoruichi as he once again panicked. Something falls from the sky onto Ichigo's head, but he seems to be using all his luck as he is again narrowly saved by Mei. She picked up Ichigo's collar, pulled him and threw him behind her just as the thing landed right where Ichigo had been standing.
KSHHHHHH!!
What had just fallen right where Ichigo looked like a giant ivory-white wooden gate. Other white walls also fell from the sky to the ground, surrounding the Soul Reapers' neighborhoods as if protecting them. Creating many rumbling sounds that continued for a short period of time until those walls blocked the city of Seireitei and even the sight of Ichigo's group.
RRRRMMMMMMMBB!!
"WHOA!!!"
KABOOOOM!
Each falling wall created a large wind and shockwave that caused dust to fly, until the last wall fell, creating a large dust explosion that then quickly subsided. Leaving only giant walls ominicious and disturbing.
"It's been a while.... Since anyone tried to crash the Seireimon-The Spirit Gate- Without a permit." A booming voice came from above them. When Mei and Ichigo looked up, they were surprised to see for the first time an extremely large, muscular man, many times bigger and taller than them. "At last I have 'some' customer. Welcome, you too!"
KRASH!!!
In his hand this man held a giant ax that matched his size as he swung a powerful blow down next to Mei. Causing rocks and dirt to fly, even her jacket sleeves and hair fluttered in the aftermath of that slash, but Mei didn't flinch at all even though a sharp piece of rock grazed her left cheek causing the other man to laugh loudly when he saw Mei's warrior spirit. And Ichigo had to cover his face with his hands and sleeves to keep dust and dirt from getting into his eyes and throat.
"Ho ho ho ho ho ho.... A fighting spirit, I see! Now, show me what you can do... kiddo!!"
"He's.... a giant! He can't be human!" Ishida sweatdropped a bit and asked as he could see Jidanbō even though he was standing from afar. "What is he?"
"His name is Jidanbō... He was chosen out of all the giants in the Soul Society for this job." Yoruichi calmly responded to Ishida's question. "This is the Great White Road gate. And Jidanbō is.... Its gatekeeper."
"Gatekeeper? So we have to defeat him to get inside...." Ishida muttered after Yoruichi's words.
"Yes and it won't be easy." Yoruichi warned. "In the 300 years that he's been guarding this gate.... No one has ever crashed it."
"He must be strong...."
"Extremely! He can kill 30 Hollows with one swing of his axe. His strength is legendary."
"How are we supposed to defeat something like that?" Ishida spoke nervously, placing his thumb under his chin and tilting his head in thought.
"We'll have to use our wits. We'll call Ichigo and Mei back for formulate a plan. Hey--!?" Yoruichi responded quickly and loudly called for Ichigo and Mei, but then he was startled by these brats when Chad and Orihime all ran to Ichigo and Mei at the same time. "What!?? Orihime!! Chad!! Didn't you hear what I said!? Come back here!!"
Jidanbō silently observed Chad and Orihime running from afar before he picked up his ax and aimed it with terrifying force just a few feet in front of them.
KRASHH!!!
"What...."
"Wha.... What was that!? It's incredible!!" Ishida opened his eyes wide as he and the others witnessed everything. He stuttered as if he couldn't believe it. Do the people of Seireitei all have such incredible power!? "With one blow... He cracked the pavement and made it tilt.... To form a barrier!!"
"Hey!? What the hell!?" At the same time, Ichigo was also thrown back towards Orihime and Chad, leaving only Mei with a bewildered face inside the barrier.
"You people have bad manners. You must be from the country." Jidanbō held up his three fingers then he used his other hand to point to one of the three fingers he held up. "Listen, cities have rules. Number one... Wash your hands when you go inside. Two... Don't eat things off the floor."
"And, three.... Only two people to a duel. The girl with short dark purple hair got here first so I'll fight her first." Jidanbō replied with a smug look on his face. "The rest of you wait patiently until I've smashed her. When you come to the city, you have to follow the rules."
"Orihime, I'm gonna make a hole in the rock... When I do, shoot Tsubaki through the hole at that guy." Chad spoke so quietly that Ichigo and Orihime had to lean their heads closer to hear what he said. "And Ichigo, you should take the opportunity to sneak attack while Tsubaki distracts him."
"Huh!? Who's Tsubaki?" Jidanbō immediately turned around when he heard whispers that made everyone worried and nervous as he had better hearing than a normal human.
"Should we do anything? Mei's the only one in there..." Orihime asked worriedly as she kept staring at the stone barrier. Although Orihime only met Mei for the first time, she felt that Mei was a cold girl on the outside but inside was a fragile heart filled with broken memories. Mei is a brave girl who did not hesitate to rush to shield Orihime when the explosion occurred in the Senkaimon gate.
"It's okay, she's much stronger than us." Ichigo replied and told everyone to back away from where Jidanbō and Mei were planning to fight, because he knew that...
Though aloof and taciturn, her blade flicks out like lashing lightning. And yet, she always strikes with her scabbard, never drawing the sword free.
And yet, just in taijutsu and swordsmanship alone, she is better than Ichigo, even Kisuke sweated profusely when fighting Mei and also had her take his hat many times without simply using Flash Steps.
"Are you done thinking, little lady?" Jidanbō raised his face and looked down at Mei with an arrogant expression.
"Maybe? Pardon me, I'm not usually rude but... I didn't ask you to wait for me." Mei tilted her head and answered Jidanbō with an indifferent expression even though her voice and words were sarcastic and sharp as if stabbing into the other person's heart. Mei grabbed the ōdachi at her waist but she still had no intention of unsheathing the sword.
"You must be a country girl too... You have bad manners." Jidanbō raised his ax high and brought it down as he finished speaking, intending to catch Mei off guard. "If somebody waits for you.... Say thank you!!!"
KRAAASH!!!
THOOOOOOM!!
"What?" Jidanbō muttered as his ax definitely hit Mei's head but what was this creepy feeling? He wondered as he stared wide-eyed at the scene as the dust gradually cleared. Mei still stood there, not taking out her sword but using it and the sheath to block the attack with just one hand holding the sword, shocking him to the extreme. She is extremely strong no, she's incredibly strong!!! "Wha... What are you!?"
"A normal person named...." Mei answered nonchalantly as if she had forgotten all about the events that had just happened, her droopy purple eyes had not once glanced up at Jidanbō. Every word she spoke shook Jidanbō to his very core. Who is she? This overwhelmingly strong Reiatsu did not come from a normal human or a captain-level Shinigami.
