Capítulo 16: Chapter 16: Jiang Yu

Su Ming was equally surprised; in his impression, Mr. Tang had never been late. Without fail, he would always appear in the classroom before the bell rang.

"Quiet, everyone. Don't talk. Let's wait patiently," said Ming Ke, standing up to address the class.

The noisy classroom immediately quieted down as everyone settled in to wait.

Ten minutes passed, but Mr. Tang still didn't show up. Ming Ke, beginning to grow restless, stood and left the room with his phone to make a call.

The class immediately began whispering among themselves.

Su Ming rested his chin on one hand, lightly tapping the desk with his fingers, a sense of foreboding creeping into his mind.

A few minutes later, Ming Ke returned to the room and addressed the class.

"I called Mr. Tang. He's feeling unwell and has taken the day off. Everyone is to self-study."

The news was like a rock dropped into a pond, sending ripples of astonishment through the room.

"You've got to be kidding. We're just supposed to self-study?"

"What's wrong with Mr. Tang? Is he giving up on us?"

"Do you think he broke down after yesterday?"

Su Ming sighed. The more he worried about something, the more likely it seemed to happen. With the entrance exams so close, Mr. Tang taking a sick day and leaving them to their own devices was the last thing they needed.

"Quiet down, everyone. Stop talking and focus on studying," Ming Ke ordered sternly, irritation clear in his voice.

The classroom fell silent again, with students reluctantly lowering their heads to start studying.

In the villa's reception room, Su Yuan fidgeted nervously as he played host to an elderly man dressed in a formal black suit. The man, Jiang Yu, had a head of white hair, a face marked with dark spots, and an air of severe authority.

"Please, Mr. Jiang Yu, have a seat. I'll pour you some water. I didn't expect you to come in person," Su Yuan said nervously.

"Hmm," Jiang Yu replied as he settled into the plush sofa.

Su Yuan poured a glass of warm water, his hands trembling slightly as he handed it over. His anxiety was palpable, reflecting his apprehension about the family patriarch's stance on the matter.

Jiang Yu was not just a renowned information specialist but also Su Yuan's former teacher. Unfortunately, Su Yuan had been a mediocre student and had long since forgotten most of what he learned.

But that wasn't the issue at hand. The patriarch sending Jiang Yu personally signaled the gravity of the situation, and Su Yuan was deeply worried about his father's attitude.

Standing beside Su Yuan, Zhao Ning nudged him with her foot, shooting him a glare as if to tell him to stop acting so spineless.

Su Yuan, however, remained as skittish as a startled deer, his wide eyes fixed on Jiang Yu.

"Thank you," Jiang Yu said as he took the glass. "Regarding the incident where Young Master Su Ming was humiliated to the point of attempting suicide, the patriarch is fully aware and extremely furious. Regardless of the circumstances, Su Ming is his grandson, and such an insult will not be tolerated. I have been dispatched to investigate, and once the matter is clear, the patriarch will intervene."

Hearing this, Su Yuan relaxed slightly. "He didn't say anything about me, did he?"

"No," Jiang Yu replied with a faint smile.

"That's a relief," Su Yuan said, exhaling deeply and smiling in relief.

Zhao Ning shook her head in exasperation at her husband's demeanor. She had married into the Su family expecting to gain connections and prestige, only to discover that Su Yuan was not only incapable but also deeply afraid of the family patriarch. To her chagrin, the family had eventually cast them out.

Her own family had been deeply disappointed, treating her with disdain and ridicule whenever she visited. Still, Zhao Ning had come to terms with it, finding solace in the fact that Su Yuan, despite his shortcomings, treated her and their child well.

At that moment, Chen Hui entered the room, leading a middle-aged man in a gray work uniform and a safety helmet. His hair was messy, and his expression was anxious.

"Boss, there's been an incident at the garbage facility," the man reported urgently.

Su Yuan turned to him with irritation. "Hu Jia, what's so urgent that you have to interrupt me now? Can't you see I have an important guest?"

"Two workers have gone missing at the facility. We've searched everywhere but can't find them," Hu Jia said, his voice trembling slightly.

"Missing? Can't you handle that yourselves? Why bother me? What do you expect me to do, join the search party? Stop pestering me—I have more important matters to attend to."

"Yes, yes, of course," Hu Jia stammered, bowing slightly before retreating hastily.

Once Hu Jia had left, Su Yuan turned back to Jiang Yu. "Mr. Jiang Yu, when do you plan to begin the investigation? I can accompany you to the school."

"No need. I will conduct the investigation on my own," Jiang Yu said with a slight smile.

"But without going to the school, how will you access their internal network for the investigation?" Su Yuan asked, puzzled.

"Young Master Su Yuan," Jiang Yu began with a hint of exasperation, "if the school truly wanted to uncover the culprits, they could easily do so. The fact that nothing has been done speaks volumes. If I were to investigate openly, it would provoke resistance from the local powers, alerting the perpetrators. Rest assured, I will quietly hack into the academy's internal network to conduct my investigation. Leave it to me."

Su Yuan scratched his head sheepishly, clearly realizing the gap in their intellectual abilities.

"Thank you. I'll leave it in your capable hands," Zhao Ning said, bowing slightly in gratitude.

"It's my duty," Jiang Yu replied calmly.

Evening

As the bell rang through Mient Academy's campus, the students in Su Ming's classroom began packing up.

Ming Ke stood and addressed the class. "Self-study is over. You're free to go. I'm planning to visit Mr. Tang at his home. Anyone want to come with me?"

"I'm too tired—I'll pass."

"I've got plans tonight," said another.

Su Ming stood up. "I'll go with you," he offered.

Though he found the visit a hassle, Su Ming felt it was only right to check on Mr. Tang, who had always treated him well. Besides, someone needed to get Mr. Tang back on track, or the upcoming exams would be a disaster.

Ming Ke nodded at Su Ming's response. But just as he was about to call for them to leave, a sharp, mocking voice cut through the room.

"You? Comforting Mr. Tang? You'll just make things worse. Didn't you 'comfort' him enough yesterday? He ended up completely breaking down."
