When Sheng Li saw Yang Feng's mother, he felt his heart palpitate.
He frowned slightly. She's clearly a Beast Tamer at the third realm… so why do I feel a threat from her?
When he couldn't pinpoint the reason for his unease, his eyes narrowed. I think the Skyfire Beastmaster Institute needs to reinvestigate Yang Feng's family background.
Suppressing his thoughts, Sheng Li stepped forward with his usual smile.
"Hello, Mrs. Yang. I am Sheng Li, Yang Feng's teacher from the academy."
Yang Feng's mother greeted him politely, "Hello. Please take care of Feng in the future."
She then turned her attention back to Yang Feng, entirely ignoring Sheng Li.
Sheng Li's expression froze for a moment. He coughed lightly to break the awkwardness.
"You can talk to your mother here, but don't forget to register yourself with the Beastmaster's Guild," he reminded Yang Feng.
"I'll be going then."
Sheng Li waved and walked toward the door.
But just as he reached it, he turned around, recalling something.
Seeing the mother and son deeply engaged in conversation and paying him no attention, he coughed again.
This time, they both looked at him.
"And also," he added with an awkward expression, "you've already reached the Mortal Bond Level. Try to strengthen your bond with Pearl to stabilize your realm."
Yang Feng nodded. "And?"
"And… nothing," Sheng Li replied, feeling out of place.
Yang Feng and his mother resumed talking as though he no longer existed.
With a resigned sigh, Sheng Li left the room. This brat forgot about me the moment his mother appeared.
Once the door closed behind him, he spoke softly, "Dark Shadow."
In an instant, a muscular man with angular features and horns on his head appeared beside Sheng Li, bowing deeply.
"Yes, Master."
"Reinvestigate Yang Feng," Sheng Li ordered in a serious tone.
"Yes, Master."
As Dark Shadow prepared to vanish, Sheng Li added, "Don't keep a watch on him or his mother."
Dark Shadow nodded and disappeared.
What is your identity, Yang Feng? It can't be as simple as a poor orphan. Sheng Li muttered as he walked toward the elevator.

Inside the summoning room, Yang Feng's mother sighed in relief, sitting down on a nearby chair.
"Thank God you're fine," she said warmly.
Yang Feng smiled mischievously diverting the topic. "Mom, I have a surprise for you."
"What is it?" she asked curiously.
Yang Feng summoned Cody. The black book appeared, its golden formations glowing faintly.
Frowning, Yang Feng knocked on the cover. "Dispel your disguise. There are no outsiders here."
Cody, who had remained silent until now, responded telepathically.
Yang boy, I told you not to expose my existence. Why are you asking me to drop the disguise?
Yang Feng chuckled. "She's my mother. How could I hide such a secret from her?"
Cody hesitated, but when she saw Yang Feng's confident smile, she relented. The black book's surface shifted into a dull golden hue, cracks adorning its surface like scars.
Yang Feng began recounting everything to his mother—from his encounter with Cody in the Astral Wasteland to summoning Pearl.
At one point, he even summoned Pearl, who hid in his sleeves, clearly nervous around Yang Feng's mother.
After receiving Yang Feng's assurances, Pearl gradually relaxed and began curiously observing its surroundings.
Yang Feng found himself standing awkwardly as his mother and Pearl started playing together, leaving him out of the conversation entirely.
For the first time, he truly understood Sheng Li's earlier frustration.
What surprised him even more was his mother's calm reaction to everything. She didn't flinch or show any sign of shock, even as he explained Cody's sentience and abilities.
"Mom, aren't you surprised about Cody?" Yang Feng finally asked, baffled by her composure.
His mother gave him a loving smile. "What's there to be surprised about? My Feng is such a good boy—why wouldn't he have such an opportunity?"
Calling Cody an opportunity made the book perk up. Cody floated toward Yang Feng's mother, no longer sulking.
"Yes, yes! Mom is right—I am an opportunity!" Cody said, her voice echoing loudly. It was the first time she spoke without telepathy.
"Can I call you mom like Yang Feng." Cody asked Yang Feng's mother.
Pearl squeaked as if agreeing, its beady eyes shining with excitement.
Yang Feng's mother chuckled, looking at Cody and Pearl. "Sure, you can call me Mom."
Yang Feng muttered under his breath, "Shameless."
"Wu, wu, Mom! Yang Feng told me not to speak under any circumstances!" Cody whined, pretending to cry.
Yang Feng's face darkened as his mother shot him a disapproving look.
"Feng, you and Cody are partners. Why would you tell her not to speak?"
Yang Feng laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. "Ah… well…"
Quickly changing the topic, he said, "Mom, I haven't explored Cody's small world yet. Let's go take a look together."
Picking up Cody, he opened the book. On the first page, a cultivation mantra was written on the left, and an energy circulation diagram was sketched on the right.
Turning to the second page, he found an intricate door illustration. Placing his finger on it, Yang Feng infused his pitiful amount of energy into the page.
A glowing light door materialized in front of them.
Two humans, a book, and a silkworm stepped through, disappearing into the door.

Inside the small world, they found themselves surrounded by dense, white mist. The space was circular, spanning about 100 meters in diameter.
In the center of the space lay an empty pool, roughly three meters in radius.
Yang Feng looked around curiously, while his mother's gaze briefly lingered on the pool. Her eyes narrowed for a moment before returning to their usual calm.
Cody floated out of Yang Feng's hands, brimming with pride.
"Yang boy, Mom—this is the small world I told you about! It has merged with your pet space, or you could say this is your pet space."
"Unlike normal relics, which only allow contracted pets to enter, this small world can accommodate anything."
Yang Feng nodded, his expectations confirmed.
"And you see this white mist? It's the purest energy from the Source Space. Its name is !@#$%^&*" Cody's voice suddenly garbled, rendering the name incomprehensible.
Yang Feng frowned but didn't ask. He already knew the answer: You're too weak to understand.
Cody continued, "And that pool? That's the Ancestral Blood Spring. By placing blood in it, the spring extracts the purest essence to help living beings evolve."
Yang Feng rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "How much blood would I need?"
"Not much—just about 100 liters of a Level 1 wild-line creature to produce a single drop of Verdant Essence.
More advanced quality for advanced tiers, Verdant line creature's blood for Arcane Essence and so on."
Yang Feng's jaw dropped, and his mother's lips twitched slightly.
Meanwhile, Pearl had already dozed off, entirely unfazed by the conversation.
