Capítulo 7: Chapter 7 • Light and Shizuku

'So it was you who summoned me,' said the woman with the flaming hair and stunning appearance. 'Since you've met your end, I'll accept it.'

Issei, lying on the ground, had eyes that no longer reflected the light of life.

The timing was crucial; if it had been a little later, Issei's reincarnation as a Reincarnated Devil would no longer have been viable.

In Rias Gremory's hand, a chess piece appeared - a simple pawn. The moment she placed it on Issei's chest, an expression of surprise came over her face.

'A single piece is all that's needed?' Her countenance, once serene and slightly arrogant, was now filled with conflicting emotions. 'How can that be?'

The abandoned church revealed its decay. Gothic arches, once majestic, now sported moss. Broken stained glass windows let in soft light. Old pews lined up irregularly and the altar, still intact, was covered in dust and webs. The silence was broken by water dripping from the compromised ceiling.

'You did a good job,' said Light, breaking the silence. 'Here's your reward.'

Raynare, kneeling before him, held out her hands, gratefully accepting Light's gift. 'I'll be eternally grateful!'

'It's the Lacrima of the Sacred White Dragon,' Light informed her. 'Be ready for the pain it can cause. In the worst case scenario, it could be fatal. Of course, I can give you another option, but it won't be as good as this.'

'I still prefer that!' Raynare replied with determination: 'I'm ready!'

Light reflected: 'If she succeeds, she'll be able to overcome her "genetic flaw" that restricts her divine energy.

Then Raynare, with a resolute look on her face, began to merge her magical power with Lacrima. A luminous aura enveloped her body as she sought to control the vast power of the Sacred White Dragon.

The process was agonisingly slow. Raynare's anguished cries resounded through the deserted church. What had been minutes seemed to stretch into hours. Despite the obvious pain, Raynare remained resilient, never begging for help.

Almost two hours passed before her screams ceased and she assumed a meditative posture. An aura of milky white light began to envelop her.

'She may be a fallen angel now, but her affinity with sacred energy is remarkable,' Light reflected silently.

Sensing that Raynare was now in a stable state, Light gestured to his subordinates, Kalawarna and Mittelt.

'Keep an eye on her. I'm going,' declared Light, leaving without waiting for any response.

Watching Light form a pair of dark purple wings made of lightning and fly away, Kalawarna whispered: 'He's gone...'

'Kalawarna, have you also noticed that Light-sama is even stronger?' Mittelt asked: 'It seems that his magic is more intense, and even his wings seem more imposing.'

'Yes, I've noticed.' Kalawarna replied, turning to her.

'Kalawarna, are you sorry?' Mittelt asked.

'Regret what?' She replied: 'That I submitted to him? If that's it, no, I'm not sorry.'

'Neither am I.' Mittelt said: 'Look, in just a few days, just for doing a simple task, he gave Raynare such a valuable gift.'

There was a hint of envy in Mittelt's eyes as he finished his speech.

'Well, I guess our chance will come.' Kalawarna commented: 'Asia Argento and Freed Sellzen are due to arrive tomorrow. I don't understand Light-sama's interest in them, but I see this as an opportunity for us too.'

'Exactly, unlike Lord Azazel who never rewarded us even after so many efforts, Light-sama is much more generous.' Mittelt remarked: 'Even if I don't receive something as great as Raynare, the correction of our genetic defect would be more than enough.'

At the end of these words, they both sank into a reflective silence.

While flying over the skyscrapers of Kuoh City, Light came to an abrupt halt.

As he descended and landed on a building, he spotted, a few metres away, a girl who appeared to be between 8 and 9 years old. Her short green hair had several fringes that covered her forehead, and side strands that went round her face. Her red eyes sparkled and her skin had an unusually light colour, giving her the appearance of someone who had just been rescued from drowning.

'You again?' Light asked. 'Why do you insist on following me?'

'I'm watching you.' She replied: 'And my name is Shizuku.'

'I told you.' Light retorted: 'I'm not of the Amakawa Clan lineage.'

'But you are.' Shizuku replied firmly: 'You have the "Light Ferry", so you belong to the Amakawa. However, I can't determine exactly where you belong in the Amakawa Clan family tree.'

'Even if I am, it makes no difference.' Light said: 'I don't intend to follow the path of a demon hunter. As long as they don't attack me, I won't harm any Ayakashi. The five I eliminated earlier tried to kill me first. I couldn't just accept it and let them kill me, could I?'

'In any case, you represent a risk.' Shizuku remarked: 'That's why I'm going to keep my eyes on you.'

In the blink of an eye, Light appeared in front of her, shrouded in flashes of intense purple, and gently lifted her chin with his right hand.

'Aren't you afraid I might end your life?' He asked with a menacing smile: 'From this angle, it would be very simple to electrocute you to death, don't you think, Shizuku-chan?'

'You won't do that.' Shizuki replied, looking directly at him.

His expression remained unchanged, even in the face of the threat.

'Tsk.' Light expressed his frustration with a click of his tongue: 'I'm telling you, stop chasing me.'

Light distanced himself from her.

'Say what you want.' She retorted: 'I'll keep after you.'

'Oh really?' Light replied.

The next moment, a pair of wings made of dark purple lightning appeared on Light's back. In addition, a medallion of golden light appeared in his right hand and merged with his wings, making them even more majestic, now with three wings on each side.

As Light took flight, he moved at a speed faster than a supersonic aeroplane.

Shizuki metamorphosed into water, trying to chase Light through the pipes, but was unable to match his speed. Eventually, she stopped a few kilometres ahead, after losing sight of him.

'Damn...' She muttered, clearly frustrated.
