The world outside the windshield blurred past me, the road stretching into a hazy ribbon that seemed endless. My hands gripped the steering wheel harder than they needed to, knuckles white against the leather.

I had no idea how long I’d been driving. The sun had begun to dip lower, casting long shadows over the landscape, but I couldn’t bring myself to turn around and head home.

His name was like poison, filling my head with thoughts I couldn’t shake, memories I didn’t want to hold onto. The way he had touched her last night, the way he had spoken to me as if he had some deeper understanding of her… it was too much.
