"It seems the Second Raikage valued you quite a lot. He could have escaped you know," Hui said, looking down at the Third Raikage, who was still half-collapsed on the ground, staring blankly at the crater left by Hui's attack.
Hui had seen it clearly.
The Second Raikage had been at the edge of the lightning sword's strike zone, and with his reflexes, he'd had a good chance of escaping. But he hadn't.
Instead, he had chosen to shove the Third Raikage, who had been directly in the center of the attack, out of the danger zone, sacrificing his own life to give the Third Raikage a chance to survive.
The Third Raikage remained silent, struggling to his feet.
His blue chakra cloak flared around him as he re-entered Lightning Chakra Mode. Yet something was off—his expression was hollow, his spirit visibly shaken.
"Are you still planning to continue?" Hui asked calmly, watching him. "Looks like the Second Raikage's sacrifice will be wasted. But it doesn't matter; who would even care?"
The Third Raikage said nothing in return, just tightened his fists. Just then, a flash of red light streaked out from the direction of the Kumogakure forces and reached the Third Raikage in an instant.
The figure grabbed him and began to retreat quickly—it was the Two-Tails Jinchūriki. Severely injured as he was, he pushed himself to his limit, powered solely by will, to drag the Third Raikage off the battlefield.
With the Second Raikage gone, they couldn't afford to lose the Third Raikage as well.
"Didn't I tell you earlier, It's not that easy to leave like that." Hui made his decision, vanishing from atop the pillar in a burst of light as he pursued the retreating Jinchūriki and the Third Raikage.
His speed was overwhelming, and in a flash, he closed the gap, his hand forming a Rasengan aimed at the fleeing pair.
"Go!" the Two-Tails Jinchūriki shouted, summoning every ounce of strength to hurl the Third Raikage out of the way before planting himself in Hui's path, ready to take the hit.
However, he wasn't killed by the blow. A dense layer of bony armor had suddenly appeared around him—a manifestation of the Two-Tails' chakra, absorbing the impact of Hui's Rasengan.
The next moment, Hui watched as the Jinchūriki's body swelled and transformed, growing into a massive, blue-flame-covered cat with piercing eyes and sharp claws.
It was Matatabi, the Two-Tails herself.
The Jinchūriki was already critically injured, and after recklessly overexerting himself, his mind and body were on the brink of collapse.
Sensing the weakened state of his host, Matatabi seized the opportunity, overtaking his consciousness and shattering the seal that bound her.
"Two-Tails… Matatabi," Hui murmured, stopping his pursuit. He had no real intention of killing the Third Raikage, after all.
"Human? Are you even human? And how do you know my name?" Matatabi's deep voice echoed as she examined Hui, her gaze curious.
Like Kurama, she could sense something unique about Hui. His aura was almost like that of a tailed beast—an entity embodying pure natural energy.
In his presence, she felt something akin to the kinship shared among the tailed beasts.
"Oh, your name? That's not exactly important. I'd think your freedom should be a little more significant." Hui replied with a smile, showing none of the usual fear or hostility humans held toward tailed beasts.
Matatabi's interest deepened. She had observed the entire battle from within her Jinchūriki's body and had seen Hui unleash that terrifying "Divine Judgment" attack.
Facing such an opponent, she wanted to flee. But as the saying goes, "Curiosity killed the cat."
Hui had called her by name, and her curiosity got the better of her.
"Is that so? You humans aren't usually so kind-hearted! But tell me, are you truly human? Or did the Sage of Six Paths create you as some… zero-tailed beast?" Matatabi asked, scrutinizing him.
Hui's face fell into a slight frown. "Of course I'm human. Well… mostly. That doesn't really matter, though. So, what now? Are you staying to fight? Or maybe thinking of getting revenge against Kumogakure for sealing you?"
Matatabi hesitated, then looked deeply into Hui's eyes before turning away. "Fighting and revenge aren't worth it. I'll take my leave."
With that, she sped off into the distance.
Hui watched her disappear over the horizon, making no move to stop her. He was sure they'd meet again someday.
After all, tailed beasts were invaluable weapons in war. Kumogakure wouldn't let her roam free for too long.
Just then, a thick earthen wall rose up ahead of him, immediately followed by an onslaught of lightning attacks striking it in rapid succession.
A squad of elite Kumogakure ninja, regaining their senses during his conversation with Matatabi, had attacked him in unison, their eyes bloodshot with rage at the boy who'd killed their Raikage.
Earlier, they'd been too afraid to move, wary of the Two-Tails and her potential for destruction. But now that she was gone, they directed all their fury toward Hui.
But against Hui, these so-called elite ninja were like children playing war. He barely needed to move, merely guiding his natural energy to raise a thick wall of earth that blocked their attacks completely.
After deflecting the assault, Hui leapt onto the earthen wall, glaring down at the Kumogakure ninja below him.
His gaze turned icy as he gathered nature energy and chakra within his body, merging them to form Senjutsu chakra.
"Sage Art: Fire Style—Majestic Destroyer Flame!"
Flames burst from his mouth, quickly transforming into a massive sea of fire that roared down upon the Kumogakure forces below.
"Water Style—Water Wall!"
A few ninja, stirred to action by pure survival instinct, attempted to counter the flames with water-style jutsu.
But their defenses were too few, too weak. The wall of fire engulfed them, swallowing up those who couldn't escape, hunting down the panicked shinobi as they fled.
As the flames receded, Hui looked down. Corpses were scattered everywhere; the bodies of at least three hundred Kumogakure shinobi lay strewn across the charred earth.
Those who survived were running, eyes blank with shock and terror, driven by only one thought: escape.
Watching the fleeing shinobi, Hui debated for a moment before deciding against pursuing them. This battle had shattered their morale completely; these Kumogakure forces were no longer a threat.
And, ultimately, he was only one person. Chasing after them would be a waste of time and effort.
"Let's hope you retreat for good. Don't disappoint me."
Hui's muttered words were meant more for himself. He had used such an overwhelming show of power to kill the Second Raikage for one reason only—to convince Kumogakure to withdraw from the war.
By sparing the Third Raikage, he hoped to leave him with a lasting scar of fear and awe, a trauma, a weakness that would prevent him from ever again attacking Konoha.
"With Kumogakure dealt with, I'll be able to move straight to the Land of Rain's front. Since this war started because of me, let me be the one to end it."
Hui murmured to himself, voice calm yet filled with determination.
