Aniyah and I trained together intensely for the next month, our bond strengthening with each grueling session. Each morning, we met in the small, secluded training area near the edge of the city, where the dense forest provided cover from prying eyes. The early dawn light would filter through the thick canopy above, casting long shadows and giving the area a mystical feel. We would start with a run through the woods, our feet pounding against the earth in rhythm, pushing each other to go faster, to become stronger.
