The key to winning a Pokémon battle doesn't just rely on the excellent performance of both the Pokémon and the Trainer, but on the consistent training that tilts the scales of victory in their favor.
Currently, in Sato's team, Zubat was at level 26, Bellossom was at level 27, Nidoran was at level 12, Growlithe was at level 15, and the newest addition, Ditto, was also at level 15.
From the levels, it's clear that the more experienced Pokémon in Sato's team are Zubat and Bellossom. Meanwhile, Nidoran and Growlithe are still quite young and have had less training, so their strength is not yet fully developed.
But aside from their lower levels, Nidoran and Growlithe also lack proficiency in their own abilities. Compared to Zubat and Bellossom, who have already mastered stable offensive tactics, it's not going to be easy for the two younger Pokémon to win a battle on their own.
As usual, Sato began his Pokémon's skill training around midday. To improve the efficiency of their training, he had spent 3,000 PokeDollars to rent a training room for two hours at a Pokémon training facility near the Pokémon Center.
These training facilities were similar to the Rocket Team's paid training grounds, offering well-equipped training rooms. However, this was just a standard facility and didn't have the high-tech equipment used internally by Team Rocket.
The temporary training room Sato rented was spacious, about 70 to 80 square meters, plenty of space for his five Pokémon to train. The room was also stocked with basic training equipment.
Zubat was currently training by attacking a small metal puppet that moved unpredictably at high speed within a certain range. He was practicing his Air Cutter move.
Based on Zubat's current performance with Air Cutter, he could control four blades of air at a time, with a maximum of nine blades being released in one go.
Zubat was now at level 26, but it seemed his growth had hit a bottleneck. His physical development and progress in skill training had slowed compared to before.
However, Sato wasn't too worried about this. If his guess was correct, Zubat was nearing its evolution. It was clear that Zubat's current body was reaching its limits, and it would need to evolve into a new form for its strength to continue growing steadily.
While Zubat's growth had slowed, Bellossom, who had just evolved from a Gloom, was experiencing rapid improvements.
Bellossom had already reached a high level of control over Grass-type energy, and after evolving, it had learned three powerful Grass-type moves: Magical Leaf, Leaf Blade, and Leaf Storm. As Bellossom continued to refine these moves, her strength was increasing significantly.
In terms of battle power, Bellossom was undoubtedly the strongest member of the current team.
Right now, Bellossom was practicing her Magical Leaf move, also attacking a fast-moving metal puppet as per Sato's instructions.
(Magical Leaf is a Grass-type special move with a power of 60. It releases enchanted leaves that can track the target and are guaranteed to hit.)
As Bellossom danced gracefully, several leaves, formed from emerald-green Grass-type energy, appeared around her. Under Bellossom's control, the leaves seemed to cheer her on, making her elegant dance even more captivating.
In about two seconds, the number of emerald-green leaves multiplied, almost completely enveloping Bellossom in a dense cloud of leaves as she danced.
However, Bellossom wouldn't allow these overly enthusiastic spectators to steal the show. Suddenly, she pointed with her small, green hands toward a wall about ten meters away. The leaves quickly gathered, transforming into a small emerald dragon that charged fiercely toward the wall.
Midway through, Bellossom's hands glowed with emerald light, and she rhythmically moved them from side to side. In response, the emerald dragon of leaves twisted and turned, becoming even more fearsome as it advanced.
In the end, Bellossom's Magical Leaf hit every target without fail, landing on the high-speed moving puppet near the wall, adding even more scratches to the poor training dummy.
While Magical Leaf only has a power of 60, Sato believed it was an outstanding move for Bellossom because the number of energy leaves Magical Leaf can generate has a very high upper limit. (The standard number for a basic Magical Leaf is 60 leaves, and for proficient, it's 120 leaves.)
With the help of his notebook's infrared scan for quick calculations, Sato saw that the first time Bellossom used Magical Leaf, she only produced 68 leaves, which barely formed a sparse circle around her.
However, as Bellossom became more familiar with the move and increased her proficiency, the number of energy leaves she could generate had reached 128. Thanks to her superb control over Grass-type energy, she could wield these 128 leaves as if they were an extension of her own limbs.
Although 128 leaves weren't enough to perform miraculous feats, they could combine to create simpler objects, like the small leaf dragon from earlier or even a small shield.
Additionally, thanks to Magical Leaf's guaranteed accuracy, Bellossom could dance gracefully while constantly sending out the energy leaves to attack her enemies.
This made Magical Leaf a versatile move in Bellossom's hands, capable of both offense and defense.
Of course, Bellossom had only just begun training this move as per Sato's guidance. She hadn't yet fully mastered combining the large number of energy leaves effectively. The Magical Leaf shield and dragon she created were still somewhat rough, with their defensive and offensive power not fully realized.
But Sato believed that, with Bellossom's excellent control over Grass-type energy and the high recovery effect of high-quality PokeBlocks, she would soon master these techniques.
When that time comes, in addition to her primary offensive move, Energy Ball, Bellossom would also have a move that could both attack and defend. Combined with Grass Knot, Bellossom's fighting style would become even more diverse.
Moreover, if Bellossom could train her dodging dance steps to the point of moving freely at high speed in a figure-eight pattern, she would undoubtedly become one of Sato's trump cards in the upcoming preliminaries.
It's also worth mentioning that besides focusing on Magical Leaf, Sato had Bellossom practice Leaf Blade and Leaf Storm as secondary moves. Leaf Blade would be her weapon in close combat, while Leaf Storm would be her trump card for turning the tide in desperate situations.
(Leaf Blade: A Grass-type physical move with a power of 95. It slashes the opponent using sharp leaves like a sword, and it has a high critical-hit ratio.)
(Leaf Storm: A Grass-type special move with a power of 120. It unleashes a storm of razor-sharp leaves at the opponent, but it sharply lowers the user's Special Attack after use.)
When using Leaf Blade, Bellossom would pull two leaves from her leaf skirt (which would regrow instantly), infusing them with intense Grass-type energy. The leaves would harden and sharpen, becoming as lethal as sword blades.
Since Bellossom's speed wasn't exceptional, and she wielded the two "swords" with both hands while still able to dance, Sato had instructed her to use Leaf Blade only when an opponent came too close.
Unfortunately, Bellossom still hadn't learned Swords Dance. If she could combine Leaf Blade with Swords Dance's fast-spinning technique, it would become a fearsome move that blended attack and defense—turning her into a dual-wielding dancer.
For now, Sato was working on having Bellossom incorporate some fast, spinning dance moves while using Leaf Blade to better deal with close-range combat situations.
