"Your majesty, I am sorry to interrupt you."
Hearing this, his attention was diverted to the curtain, where a long brown hair peeked out, only to give way to two beautiful emerald eyes which seemed to have an alluring charm that was very hard to avoid.
The eyes never looked straight at him, instead, they were kept low, avoiding direct eye contact with Wade at all times, he knew his place.
As Wade crossed Wade could tell, this person was dressed differently from the rest, he wasn't wearing armor like the riders, nor was he wearing chains and dirty rags for a slave, it wasn't like a slave had the right to be in the same place as him.
This person wore white robes, with a red cloak over his back, his face was perfectly even, while he had a snub nose and a perfectly trimmed little beard.
Looking at him, Wade wondered how many women he would have behind him if he had his looks, it was clear that this person would be the perfect stereotype of the women he came from. And in this place too since, according to Doyle's recollections, he deeply envied this person, and because of this, he made it his business to make his life miserable.
"Don't worry bro... Have a seat." Wade made a sweeping gesture with his arms pointing towards the seat in front of him. As he rummaged through his memory, he recalled each action and tried to replicate them to act as Doyle would.
It wasn't that he wasn't afraid of being found out, on the contrary, he was sure that if he acted as he would, they might be suspicious, but they would simply ignore him. After all, who would dare disrespect the future King of the Skyf?
However, he would prefer to act as usual, changing the way he spoke and acted would bring suspicion, and that would change the way the person who wanted to kill him would act.
For the moment he managed to save himself by being able to expel all the poison from his body, but he was not sure that this would happen again, so the wisest thing to do would be to pretend that nothing happened.
His brother Bright nodded slightly as he took a seat across from him, his eyes never looking directly at him, instead flicking for a moment over the tray of juicy-looking apples.
This did not go unnoticed under Wade's gaze, and suspicions quickly began. 'Was it him?' It was clear that seeing the apples wouldn't be proof enough to frame him, after all, he didn't even know if the apples were poisoned, it could have been anything else, but he couldn't let this possibility slip away.
Trying to act as normal as possible, Wade let out a small smile, and offered, "You want an apple..."With one of his hands, he took an apple and stretched it out to his brother, before adding. "They're very juicy."
Though she hesitated for a moment, he let out a small laugh and shook it off with one hand, "I'm sorry Majesty. But the heir's food is only for the heir. I would never have the audacity to take something that belongs to him. Though... I am glad to hear they are to your liking."
Wade let out a small sigh, after offering the apple he had hoped for some reaction that would indicate if he was the culprit.
Sure, he ran the risk of his brother dying on the spot after consuming the apple, but he would not go to such lengths, he would stop his hand before he got to taste it, but the simple action of accepting this might lower his suspicions, then he could test in some other way if the apple was poisoned, and if it were he would rule his brother out of the suspects.
But he had completely forgotten the stupid traditions of the Skyf. To them both king and heirs were untouchable, to touch their clothes or their food was blasphemy, and among the less severe punishments was the amputation of both hands.
Sure, it felt weird to have to suspect his brother, but in royalty such acts were actually common... Or at least that's what Wade understood from reading hundreds of Webtoons about betrayals in royalty.
His brother's reaction had left him no clue, so he had to think of other ways to clear his doubts, he couldn't let this opportunity go without clearing, even if it was just a little bit about the mystery of his assassination attempt.
"So... What brings you here?" His gaze was watchful, it never left his face, and it wasn't because he was really attractive, Wade didn't have that kind of thoughts, but because he wanted to catch any hint, any gesture that would bring up a guilt.
The reason I ask this? Well, although it seemed like a natural question, in Wade's mind, there was a doubt that was constantly bothering him. What is he doing here, did he come to check if the poison worked?
Wade couldn't understand what the reasons were, as he had memories of making his brother Bright's life miserable, and no one wanted to be around the person who was in charge of making him suffer constantly, this is one of the reasons that made him most suspicious of him.
"Oh... The truth is that one of the soldiers reported that he had some trouble, and I decided to check on him."
'Damn...' Wade, began to lament, his brother wasn't leaving any clues and he was realizing how pitiful of a detective he was.
"Also, I wanted to report that we will be arriving at the resting point shortly, we are still several days away from our destination, but the horses and slaves need to take a rest."
With that said, he began to withdraw, without another word, and Wade let him go, he really had no idea how to get any more information out of him so he preferred to stay alone and think about how he could resolve this.
A short time later, as the sky darkened and the slaves stopped moving, he could feel his small room fall to the sand in a sudden movement.
Without delay, one of the riders had alighted from his horse and rode up to the curtains to report, "Your Majesty, we have arrived at the resting point."
Wade contemplated the soldier's silhouette for a moment before answering. "I understand. Now, get the hell out."
Although he had treated his brother well, dealing with soldiers was something different, in Doyle's eyes, soldiers were simply toys he could do what he wanted with, he never had any respect for them. And this was why Wade was treating him this way.
Hearing the answer, the Soldier walked away without another word, leaving Wade to his thoughts.
'Let's see what's in store for us.'
Wade let out a small sigh and left the room.
