The green flames, intense enough to incinerate everything, dissipated with a casual wave of Lin Fan's hand, as if nothing had ever happened.
The Pope was shocked, sweat dripping from his forehead.
Who is this person? How could he be so terrifying?
Even he couldn't withstand the flames cast by the Abyssal Lord, yet this person extinguished them with a simple wave of his hand. It was simply astounding.
Not only was the Pope dumbfounded, but even the Abyssal Lord couldn't comprehend the situation.
"Take a look at my flames."
Lin Fan raised his hand, flames flickering at his fingertips. He then approached the Abyssal Lord. "Do my flames feel warm?"
Although the flames didn't touch the Abyssal Lord, he could sense a terrifying power within them, a power that felt capable of reducing him to ashes in an instant.
"Stay away from me!"
The Abyssal Lord trembled, fear evident in his voice. This kind of flame was too terrifying, something he had never encountered before. What kind of power could create such flames?
Lin Fan smiled as the flames on his fingertips gradually dissipated. "Don't be nervous, I mean you no harm. Can we talk now?"
The Abyssal Lord, no longer as domineering as before, understood what he needed to do.
"Yes."
Only with comparable strength could they sit down peacefully and discuss matters.
Lin Fan looked at the Pope, who was still in a daze. Noticing Lin Fan's gaze, the Pope, despite his position, was the weakest presence here. He was startled.
"I can, too."
How could the Pope refuse? He had just witnessed the Abyssal Lord, Akmonde, readily agreeing to a conversation.
Now, the three of them sat cross-legged on the ground. The Pope, unsure of their intentions, remained silent, perfectly playing the role of a listener.
"It's so dark here," Lin Fan casually remarked.
Upon hearing this, the Pope waved his hand, conjuring a bright sphere of light that illuminated the gloomy dungeon. Akmonde frowned; he loathed light. However, he dared not complain, silently enduring the brightness.
"Thank you," Lin Fan expressed his gratitude.
"It's my duty," the Pope replied.
Lin Fan, pleased with the Pope's friendly attitude, smiled. Just as he thought, there was no inherent hatred between people. Often, friendly communication could resolve many issues.
"Your name is Akmonde?" Lin Fan asked curiously.
"Indeed, I am the great Abyssal Lord, Akmonde," the Abyssal Lord confirmed.
"A fine name. I'm Lin Fan, just two characters. Would you mind if I called you Ak?" Lin Fan wanted to learn more, hoping to get closer to Akmonde and establish a good relationship to facilitate his inquiries.
The Abyssal Lord seethed inwardly. No one dared address him so casually. However, he recognized Lin Fan's terrifying, abyss-like power.
He wanted to retort, How dare you provoke the great Abyssal Lord? Prepare to die!
Yet, he simply said, "Yes."
Lin Fan turned to the Pope. "And you?"
"I am the thirteenth Pope of the Church of Light. My full name is rather long. You can call me Polk," the Pope responded.
"Polk, hmm, a lovely name," Lin Fan complimented.
The Pope felt a pang of helplessness. As the Pope, his status was revered. Everyone addressed him with respect.
But now… he was called Polk.
It was truly unpleasant.
Unfortunately, he had no choice but to endure it.
"Ak, I've been searching for the God of Darkness, but I haven't found any trace of him. I sensed a dark aura here, so I came to check it out. It seems I was mistaken. Just now, it seemed like you knew about the God of Darkness. Could you tell me where he is?" Lin Fan inquired.
He only wanted to find the God of Darkness.
But he had no leads.
It was truly regrettable.
If possible, he really wanted to meet the God of Darkness and subdue him.
The Pope listened intently. The 'God of Darkness' seemed to be a deity. Even as the Pope, he had never seen a god. Ordinary people believed in the existence of gods, but in his high position, he didn't believe at all, having never seen one.
He even believed that if gods existed, they were merely more powerful beings.
The Abyssal Lord replied, "I've heard of the God of Darkness. A very ancient, very old legend. They say he is the source of darkness, the creator of the abyss. But no one knows who he is. It's as if he existed, and yet, as if he never did. I don't know where he is."
"Is that so? He sounds quite powerful."
Lin Fan felt a tinge of disappointment. He had finally encountered someone who knew of the God of Darkness, but even they didn't know his whereabouts. It was truly a pity.
The Abyssal Lord looked at Lin Fan quizzically.
Who is this guy, wanting to find the God of Darkness? What is his ultimate goal? Does he intend to confront the God of Darkness? If the God of Darkness truly appears, with your strength, can you really defeat him?
He deeply doubted it.
"Powerful or not, who knows? No one has ever seen him," the Abyssal Lord added.
Just then, the abyssal passage opened by the Pope trembled violently, and a tyrannical aura erupted from within.
The Pope's face paled, his body trembling.
The Abyssal Lord exclaimed, "The Ravager, Kamdo! How could he be here? He slumbers in the Dead Sea of the Abyss. He shouldn't be able to detect this place."
Even the Abyssal Lord, Akmonde, was intimidated by Kamdo's aura, as if he were a natural enemy in the abyss.
Tentacles, covered in grotesque eyes, emerged from the abyssal passage.
"Who is that?" Lin Fan asked, puzzled by the interruption.
"The Ravager, Kamdo, from the abyss. He possesses destructive power. Cruel and violent. Quickly close the abyssal passage, or when he emerges, we will all die here," the Abyssal Lord urged.
This was a monster born from the will of the abyss.
Devoid of emotion, its only purpose was destruction.
As the Abyssal Lord spoke, Kamdo attacked. His tentacles lashed out with terrifying force, cracking the very space around them.
Such a devastating attack, who could withstand it?
"Don't worry, I'll handle this."
With a flick of his finger, Lin Fan sent a wisp of flame towards the tentacles. The tiny flame instantly erupted, engulfing Kamdo entirely. The fierce flames quickly incinerated the tentacles and continued to spread.
A wail of agony echoed through the dungeon.
The Abyssal Lord and the Pope stared in disbelief.
If such flames were to touch them, they would be reduced to ashes in the blink of an eye.
It seemed they had underestimated Lin Fan's power.
If the Abyssal Lord had harbored any ulterior motives before, they were completely extinguished now. This human was definitely beyond his capabilities.
He stared intently at Lin Fan's face, etching his features into his memory.
An indelible impression.
The Pope cried out inwardly. What kind of monsters are these? He didn't know what he had done to deserve this. He only wanted to open the abyssal passage, summon the Abyssal Lord, and make a pact to extend his lifespan. How did things turn out like this?
Regret!
He truly regretted it.
If given another chance, he would never open the abyssal passage.
Death would be preferable.
At least he wouldn't have encountered such terrifying beings.
"By the way, why did you open this passage? Although that guy wasn't very powerful, he seemed quite formidable to you. If I hadn't stopped him, you would have been in grave danger when he emerged," Lin Fan inquired.
The Pope was drenched in sweat, unsure how to explain himself.
Should he lie?
No… If his lie was discovered, he would surely be killed.
Resigned to his fate, the Pope confessed, "My lifespan is nearing its end. I opened the passage and summoned the Abyssal Lord hoping to make a pact with him. I wanted to borrow his long lifespan to continue living. As a representative of light, the Pope of the Church of Light, communicating with the abyss and allowing darkness to corrupt my heart, offering my soul to darkness… it is indeed wrong. But I don't want to die like this..."
Finished, the Pope lowered his head, bracing himself for Lin Fan's wrath.
However...
"Oh, I see. It's quite a skill to have such an ability. But is he willing to make a pact with you?" Lin Fan asked, curious about this pact that could allow someone to continue living by borrowing another's life. It was truly fascinating.
The Pope looked up, stunned. He hadn't expected such a reaction.
It was truly beyond his imagination.
The Abyssal Lord looked at the Pope. A fine soul indeed. But he dared not reveal his malicious intent in front of Lin Fan. From their conversation, he had gathered that Lin Fan wasn't particularly fond of darkness.
If he were to have the Pope offer his soul, corrupting him with abyssal power and turning him into an emissary of the abyss in this world, he would undoubtedly be obliterated.
"You summoned the great me, desiring a pact to prolong your life. According to the laws of the abyss, you must offer your soul and allow the power of the abyss to corrupt your body. However, the great Abyssal Lord is willing to make an equal pact with you, allowing you to continue living."
The Abyssal Lord wanted to present himself as magnanimous and benevolent before Lin Fan.
He then raised his demonic hand and with a gentle tap, initiated the pact ritual.
Overjoyed, the Pope couldn't believe the Abyssal Lord agreed to an equal pact. It was something everyone dreamed of but could never achieve.
"Thank you, great Abyssal Lord."
A blessing in disguise.
He had never imagined making an equal pact with the Abyssal Lord without sacrificing his soul. It was truly unbelievable.
