Capítulo 546: Chapter 546: At This Moment, I Thought of My Brother Lin

A long time passed.

Cheng Zhi cherished his current mission. Although it didn't involve fighting monsters directly, he felt a heavy responsibility on his shoulders. Their task was to maintain an overview of the situation, control the scene, help teammates avoid monsters, and constantly monitor the map.

He was full of energy.

His whole body was brimming with power.

Suddenly!

The signals went haywire. The previously inactive green dots on the map became active all at once, rapidly approaching the team as if attracted by something.

Zzzt!

Static came through the comms, as if the team was trying to communicate, but only noise transmitted. Soon, even the static disappeared.

"We've been tricked! It's a trap!"

"Armored vehicles, come pick us up!"

An anxious voice came through – it was Captain Xiao Hong. Usually calm and collected, her voice was now filled with panic, unable to maintain composure. Just what kind of terrifying situation had they encountered to cause such a reaction?

The support personnel inside the armored vehicles couldn't imagine what was happening. With a roar, the armored vehicles started up.

All the support personnel were anxious. Something had definitely gone wrong; otherwise, things wouldn't be like this.

The new recruits were all tense.

The situation had exceeded their expectations.

They hadn't expected such a thing to happen on their first mission. It undoubtedly had a huge impact on them.

"Kid, hold on tight! It's time to show off some real driving skills."

Cheng Zhi nodded frantically, gripping the handle with a serious expression. Suddenly, his center of gravity shifted as the armored vehicle drifted in a sharp turn, speeding towards the entrance of the pharmaceutical company.

The speed and the sudden turn made his stomach churn. It took a while for him to adapt.

Beep! Beep!

The alarm blared.

Monsters within the city were swarming towards them.

"Holy crap! Things are looking bad. We might get wiped out here!" The veteran driver exclaimed, but his expression remained unchanged. Although he hadn't experienced such a situation before, he wouldn't panic even in the face of extreme danger.

"Captain, you only have five minutes. If we get surrounded by the city's monsters, we won't be able to escape."

He reported the situation while driving.

Not long after.

Xiao Hong and her team ran out of the pharmaceutical company. The team of twenty-something people had lost a few members, clearly having fallen inside.

"Help!"

A new recruit, scared out of his wits, had long lost his weapon and was running with the team, the veteran members shielding them and clearing the way.

"Everyone, get in!" Xiao Hong shouted.

An armored vehicle sped towards them, but in an instant, a gigantic figure descended from the sky, flipping the leading armored vehicle over.

"Damn it!"

Those who saw this were momentarily stunned. They hadn't expected such a monster to appear.

The monster was four meters tall, with a robust build. The fabric covering its lower legs looked like the kind of work clothes a scientist would wear.

Normally, bulky monsters were slow, but this one seemed to be an all-around powerhouse, possessing both terrifying strength and speed.

Cheng Zhi saw someone trying to crawl out of the overturned armored vehicle and shouted, "I'll go save them!"

He was scared.

But he wanted to save them.

"Kid, don't..."

But Cheng Zhi didn't listen. He ran out, and with no monsters blocking his path, he reached the overturned vehicle, pulled the veteran out, carried him on his shoulder, and quickly ran back.

"You little brat, you're courting death!" The rescued veteran cursed. He had already prepared to sacrifice himself. At this critical moment, his personal safety was no longer important; protecting the team's escape was the right choice.

Cheng Zhi said, "Senior, there are no monsters watching us. I took advantage of the opportunity to save you. Isn't it better to be alive? Why die if you don't have to?"

At this moment.

Xiao Hong was fighting the scientist monster. The monster threw a punch, and she dodged, spinning around and slashing the monster's arm with her knife. However, to the monster, this small injury was nothing.

Boom!

The monster's fist landed, creating a large crater in the ground.

If the fight continued, she would definitely be killed by this monster.

"Get in the vehicles, quickly!" Xiao Hong yelled.

Wang Xiaojun urged, "Hurry..."

He noticed that the captain was struggling against the giant monster, not daring to take its punches directly. The destructive power was simply too astonishing. A direct hit would definitely result in serious injury.

At this time.

Cheng Zhi saw Zhang Yue, another new recruit like himself. He was terrified, his legs trembling, but he still ran desperately. When a monster chased him, he would swing his knife, knock the monster down, and then continue running.

The monsters knocked to the ground would get up again within seconds and resume attacking others.

"Zhang Yue, hurry up!" Cheng Zhi shouted.

Now, a group of veteran members were holding back the monsters while retreating. Zhang Yue was running a bit further out, and when faced with a monster's sudden attack, he could only rely on himself to defend.

Meng Jinxia remained calm, but her eyes had changed, no longer as composed as before. However, she kept close to the team and didn't fall behind, thus reducing the pressure on herself.

The remaining armored vehicles continuously fired nets, trapping the monsters that ran out of the pharmaceutical company, lessening the pressure.

Suddenly.

Zhang Yue was rammed by a monster and sent flying, landing and rolling on the ground. Fortunately, his combat suit mitigated the impact. He coughed up some blood, but he could still stand.

However…

Just as Zhang Yue was about to continue running, he found a shadow on the ground in front of him, a huge shadow enveloping him.

"Zhang Yue…" Cheng Zhi was shocked. He hadn't expected that monster to knock Zhang Yue right in front of the scientist monster that Xiao Hong was fighting.

Xiao Hong's face changed drastically when she saw this. In the current situation, it was impossible to save him.

At this moment.

Zhang Yue felt a chill run down his spine. He swallowed, feeling a terrifying abyss looming behind him. Escape was impossible. The terrifying pressure weighed heavily on him. He was truly trapped.

Hearing the movement behind him, the scientist monster slowly raised its fist, letting out a low chuckle.

Large beads of sweat dripped from Zhang Yue's forehead.

"Cheng Zhi, I think I'm done for. You keep going..." Zhang Yue shouted, then closed his eyes in despair, his whole body trembling. He knew he was going to die, and facing death, anyone would be terrified.

"I'll save you!" Cheng Zhi yelled, then, ignoring the people around him, grabbed a nearby knife and charged forward.

"Don't go looking for death!" The veteran he had rescued reached out to grab him.

Xiao Hong didn't expect Cheng Zhi to rush forward. She wanted to stop him, but it was too late. A monster attacked from the side, forcing her away.

"Damn it!"

She already knew the outcome – both new recruits would die at the hands of the scientist monster.

"Don't come..." Zhang Yue shouted. Then, the scientist monster's massive fist came crashing down. He knew Cheng Zhi's abilities were very weak; he couldn't even defeat the most ordinary monsters, let alone such a terrifying one.

Boom!

A dull thud echoed.

A thick cloud of dust billowed up.

"Go..."

Xiao Hong slashed down the monster that had attacked her. Knowing the outcome, she didn't expect them to survive. In this situation, they could only save whoever they could.

But at this moment.

A voice came, and she stopped, her eyes filled with disbelief.

The dust settled.

Cheng Zhi, gripping a Tang straight knife, had blocked the scientist monster's fist. The force of the blow was astonishing; otherwise, it wouldn't have stirred up such a thick cloud of dust.

"Are you okay?" Cheng Zhi asked.

Zhang Yue, sitting paralyzed on the ground, stared blankly. "You... you..."

"Let's go," Cheng Zhi urged, then with a grunt, he pushed with all his might, forcing the scientist monster back a few steps. Even the monster seemed stunned, as if it had seen a ghost. Someone had actually blocked its fist.

Shocked, Xiao Hong snapped out of her brief stupor and quickly moved, reaching Zhang Yue and grabbing his shoulder.

"You go too."

"Okay." Cheng Zhi nodded, but then, as if he suddenly realized something, he looked dazed, still not quite comprehending. He looked at the monster in front of him, down at the Tang straight knife in his hand, and experimentally raised the knife in a defensive posture.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

Did I just do that?

It couldn't be possible.

He hadn't reacted at the time, and only now did he realize what he had just done.

And at this moment.

The scientist monster roared and threw another punch, this one even more powerful. Coupled with the scientist monster's ferocious expression, it exerted immense psychological pressure.

"Can... can I block it?" Cheng Zhi wasn't confident in himself, but for some reason, the seemingly ferocious and terrifying monster suddenly transformed into the image of Brother Lin.

No... Brother Lin couldn't be compared to a monster. But in his mind, the monster in front of him didn't even exert as much pressure as Brother Lin. When facing Brother Lin, he had the feeling that he definitely couldn't withstand it, that it was simply impossible.

But now... facing this monster, for some reason, he had the feeling that he could do it.

While he was pondering this.

The monster's fist descended.

For some reason, Cheng Zhi thought of how Brother Lin swung his fists. He stepped forward, gripped the Tang straight knife with both hands, and with a roar, met the monster's fist head-on.

Puchi!

Blood splattered.

Cheng Zhi's eyes widened. He felt that the monster's fist wasn't as powerful as he had imagined.

This wasn't what he expected.

Xiao Hong, witnessing this scene, was utterly shocked. She hadn't expected this kid to be so powerful. Even she might not have been able to achieve what he just did.

But now wasn't the time to think about these things.

Taking advantage of the monster's pain and enraged roars, she grabbed Cheng Zhi by the collar and quickly retreated to the armored vehicle.

"Drive!"
