Capítulo 2: The Tragedy

The moon hung high in the night sky, casting silvery light through the curtains of Leo's room. Suddenly, the boy was jolted awake by piercing screams that echoed from somewhere deep within the mansion. His heart raced as he sat up in bed, the remnants of sleep fading quickly into fear.

Before he could gather his thoughts, the door creaked open, and Elena entered, her expression a mix of worry and exhaustion. Her blonde hair was slightly disheveled, and dark circles hinted at the long night she had endured. She moved quietly but quickly, her eyes darting around the dimly lit room as if assessing the danger lurking beyond.

"Leo," she whispered urgently, kneeling beside his bed. "You need to stay quiet and calm. We're going to get you to safety."

Just then, a maid with short black hair slipped into the room behind Elena. "Madam, we must act fast. It's not safe here," she said, her voice low but firm.

"No!" Leo cried, clutching his blanket tightly. "I don't want to go! I want to stay with you, Mama!" His voice trembled, fear creeping into his heart as he sensed the urgency in their actions.

Elena leaned closer, her eyes filled with warmth despite the panic around them. "I know, sweetheart, but you must trust me. I need you to be brave for just a little while. The maid will take you to a safe place, and I promise I'll find you as soon as I can."

Tears welled up in Leo's eyes as he shook his head, his small voice breaking. "No! I want to stay with you!"

The maid stepped forward, her expression softening. "I'll take good care of him, Madam," she reassured Elena, but Leo continued to protest, his cries echoing in the room.

"Leo, listen to me," Elena urged, her voice firm yet gentle. "This is important. You must be strong. I promise you, we'll be together again soon."

With a heavy heart, she pulled him into a tight embrace, feeling the warmth of her child's small body against her. "I love you, my brave knight," she whispered before reluctantly releasing him.

The maid quickly but gently took Leo's hand, leading him out of the room. "Come on, Leo. I'll keep you safe," she said, her tone reassuring even as they stepped into the uncertain darkness of the mansion.

As they moved down the corridor, distant sounds of chaos echoed around them—crashes, shouts, and the unmistakable sound of destruction. Leo glanced back, his heart racing as he saw the worry etched on his mother's face before she disappeared from view.

Meanwhile, in the heart of the mansion, Kai fought valiantly against the intruders. Shadows flickered across the walls as he unleashed his ki, the air crackling with energy. Each strike sent enemies sprawling, their faces twisted in fear as they realized they had underestimated him.

Elena joined the fray, wielding her own fierce determination, striking with grace and strength. Together, they moved like a whirlwind through the chaos, creating devastating destruction wherever they went. The mansion, once a place of warmth and safety, now became a battleground filled with shouts and the sounds of shattering glass.

"Stay close!" Kai shouted to Elena, their eyes locking for a brief moment filled with unspoken understanding. They were fighting for their family, for Leo's safety, and nothing would stop them.

As the fight raged on, Leo was led into the dark embrace of the forest, the night alive with the sounds of rustling leaves and distant howls. He clung tightly to the maid's hand, his heart heavy with worry for his parents, but deep down, he felt a flicker of hope. He was determined to be brave, just like they had asked him to be.

The forest whipped by in a blur as the maid ran, holding Leo tightly in her arms. Her breath came in short, ragged gasps, but she didn't slow down. The danger was too close, too real. Leo, his face buried against her chest, clung to her, his small body trembling with fear.

Her instincts, finely honed from years of protecting the family, screamed at her that they were not alone. But she pushed forward, determined to keep Leo safe.

Then, suddenly, she felt it—a presence ahead of them. She skidded to a stop, eyes wide, her heart pounding in her chest. A shadowy figure stepped out from behind a tree, their body shrouded in black clothing that seemed to blend with the darkness itself.

The figure moved silently, like a predator, cutting off their path. The maid's grip tightened around Leo as she instinctively stepped back, her eyes locked onto the stranger.

"Hand over the boy," the figure demanded, their voice cold, almost inhuman, sending a chill through the night air.

The maid's face hardened. "Not a chance," she spat, setting Leo down behind her. She drew her small blade once more, her stance low and defensive, ready to fight, there was no way she'd let them take Leo

Without warning, she lunged at the figure, her blade flashing in the moonlight. But the figure was fast—too fast. He dodged her strike effortlessly, moving with a fluid grace that made them seem almost untouchable.

The maid spun, slashing again, but each attack was met with nothing but air. The figure was playing with her, dodging each blow as if she were a mere annoyance.

"You're wasting your time," the figure said, almost bored. "You cannot win."

Desperation filled the maid's heart as she pressed on, her movements becoming more frantic, her strikes more erratic. She needed to buy time—just enough for Leo to escape.

But the figure grew tired of the game. In a blur of movement, he countered her next attack, catching her wrist with a sickening crack. The blade fell from her hand, clattering to the forest floor.

"No!" she gasped, her eyes wide with shock as the figure delivered a swift, devastating blow to her chest. She staggered back, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth, her strength fading. She collapsed to her knees, clutching at her chest, her breath coming in painful gasps.

Leo, terrified and unable to understand what was happening, reached for her. "No, no, no!" he cried, his voice breaking as tears filled his red eyes. "Please, don't hurt her!"

The figure turned their gaze to the boy, cold and unfeeling. "You should worry about yourself, child."

In a swift motion, he raised his hand, a glowing orb of dark mana forming in their palm. The energy hummed with a deadly force, twisting and crackling in the air. Leo froze, his body trembling with fear as the figure aimed directly at him.

The maid, with the last of her strength, tried to pull herself up. "No... please..." she rasped, but her voice was weak, her vision fading.

The figure's cold, emotionless voice rang through the air. "It's over."

With a flick of his wrist, he unleashed the beam of mana. It cut through the night like a bolt of lightning, piercing the maid's body in an instant, and with a choked gasp, she collapsed to the ground, her eyes glazing over as life left her.

The beam didn't stop. It continued its deadly path straight toward Leo.

The boy's eyes widened in horror as the dark energy struck him in the chest. For a moment, there was nothing but silence, as if the world had stopped. Then, an agonizing pain ripped through him, sharp and relentless. He gasped, clutching his chest, but it was too late.

The beam of mana drilled a hole straight through his heart.

Leo's body crumpled to the ground, his small hands weakly reaching out as his vision blurred. He could barely hear the figure's voice over the pounding in his ears.

"You were never meant to survive."

The darkness of the forest closed in, and as the pain overtook him, Leo's world faded to black. His last thought was of his mother and father, of the safety of home—before everything slipped away.
