"Are the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group and the Mountain Demon Mercenary Group really going to war?"
Hearing this news, Mo Yu was taken aback, then rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
He hadn't expected that in just a day, the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group would come looking for trouble with the Mountain Demon Mercenary Group. The way mercenary groups handled issues was indeed far more direct and violent compared to family factions.
The strength of these two mercenary groups was fairly evenly matched. In the end, their conflict might just end without a clear victor.
However, this matter had little to do with Mo Yu. He didn't care who won or lost between the Berserk Lion and Mountain Demon Mercenary Groups.
But with the Earthcore Soul Fruit in his possession, if the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group discovered any clues, they might suspect him. After all, many mercenaries had seen him entering the town with Cersei and her group.
"You're up, Young Master."
Qing Lin, who had woken up at some point, noticed Mo Yu sleeping in the chair, and a hint of guilt flashed across her delicate face.
"Young Master, you don't have to be so kind to Qing Lin. I'm… just a maid," the young girl stammered emotionally.
"Heh, of course Qing Lin is my maid, but you're my one and only, irreplaceable maid," Mo Yu said with a gentle smile, patting the girl's head.
He didn't really see Qing Lin as a maid, but since she insisted on calling him "Young Master," Mo Yu went along with it.
"Alright, bring me a basin of water so I can wash up," Mo Yu ordered, intentionally sounding bossy.
Hearing his words, Qing Lin happily complied, her face lighting up with joy.
Throughout their journey, everything that had happened made Qing Lin feel she was useless, believing herself to be a burden to the Young Master.
But with Mo Yu's reassurance and orders, the young girl's spirits lifted significantly.
Seeing this, Mo Yu couldn't help but smile wryly. He probably understood better than anyone just how extraordinary Qing Lin was. In less than ten years, she had grown from a Dou Zhe to a Dou Zun—a feat unmatched by anyone else.
"Oh right… Young Master, last night I seemed to sense… something strange deep within the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range," Qing Lin hesitated, bringing over a basin of water.
Hearing this, Mo Yu paused for a moment, then narrowed his eyes as if he'd realized something. "What did you sense?"
Feeling his gaze on her, Qing Lin grew nervous and stammered, "I'm not sure if my senses were accurate… but there was some sort of disturbance in the northern part of the that Mountain Range."
"Oh? How did you sense it?" Mo Yu asked while wiping his face with a towel.
"I… I don't know. Qing Lin just felt that this aura… it seemed somewhat similar to the bloodline within me. And in front of that aura, even the Zi Huo seemed much weaker," Qing Lin said softly, clinging closely to Mo Yu.
"Just as I thought." Mo Yu's eyes flashed with understanding upon hearing Qing Lin's words.
Qing Lin's senses were likely correct. Deep in the northern part of the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range resided the king of the lizard clan—the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King.
The Black Lizard Demon Serpent King was a sixth-tier Magic Beast with a serpent lineage, while Qing Lin possessed the bloodline of the Snake People. Combined with her Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils, it was normal for her to sense the presence of the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King.
Could it be that the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King had its eyes on the Heavenly Flame too?
Thinking of this, Mo Yu furrowed his brows. The Heavenly Flame was the nemesis of cold-natured beasts like lizards and serpents. What would the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King need it for? It wasn't like it could evolve, unlike Medusa.
Shaking his head, Mo Yu decided not to dwell on it. He would investigate the situation in the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range first.
After washing up, the two left the inn together.
"Today, we head into the northern part of the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range."
The mountain range was home to countless Magic Beasts, and it was fraught with danger. Lone travelers were most likely to be attacked by Magic Beasts, so most mercenaries, except for the exceptionally skilled, would enter the mountains in groups.
But with Mo Yu's current strength, coupled with Zi Huo, he didn't need to be as cautious as when he first left Wu Tan City.
The only thing to watch out for was the lizard tribe that lived in the northern part of the mountain range.
Exiting the town's gates, Mo Yu and Qing Lin walked quietly through the forest.
Outside the mountain range, things were relatively peaceful. However, not long after they entered the mountain range, a small-scale Magic Beast attack unfolded right before Qing Lin's eyes.
The attackers were three first-tier Magic Beasts known as Ice Centipedes, common in the outer regions of the mountain range. They had an ice attribute, and their venom carried a chilling poison. If untreated within half a day, the victim's blood would freeze from the inside, leading to death.
Three Ice Centipedes attacked a sleeping second-tier Wind Leopard, quickly injecting their venom into it. In an instant, the Wind Leopard's limbs went cold, succumbing to the poison.
Despite killing one of the Ice Centipedes in its last struggle, the Wind Leopard couldn't withstand the poison and collapsed, becoming food for the remaining centipedes.
This scene was witnessed by Mo Yu and Qing Lin as they passed by. After devouring the Wind Leopard, the centipedes turned their attention to the two of them, only to be struck down by Mo Yu's thunder strike in the next moment.
Seeing this, Qing Lin tensed up, staying close to Mo Yu.
Having been with Mo Yu for some time, Qing Lin knew how dangerous the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range was, even more so than the Tagore Desert.
In less than a few hundred meters, they encountered three waves of Magic Beast attacks. However, thanks to Mo Yu's formidable strength, he easily dealt with all the threats.
As they walked beneath a dense tree, Mo Yu suddenly paused. Noticing his serious expression, Qing Lin looked at him questioningly as he spoke to the empty space behind them, "Come out. Following me for so long must have been tiring."
Silence followed his words, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind breaking the quiet.
Seeing no response, Mo Yu's lips curled into a cold smile. "In that case, don't blame me for being rude!"
With that, a terrifying crimson lightning flame appeared in Mo Yu's hand. As the Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder manifested, its power spread through half of the forest.
Just as he was about to strike, a group of middle-aged mercenaries emerged from behind a tree.
Noticing the Berserk Lion emblem on their clothing, Mo Yu frowned. "Members of the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group?"
He had sensed someone following them when they left the town, initially assuming it was just a nearby mercenary squad.
However, the fact that this group had trailed them for so long clearly indicated their intention to track him.
Mo Yu casually dealt with a second-tier magical beast, then forced the people trailing him to reveal themselves. When he saw that it was members of the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group, he was slightly taken aback. He hadn't expected them to shift their attention onto him so quickly.
"What business do you have, following me for so long?" Mo Yu asked coldly, his gaze sweeping over the mercenaries before him.
The mercenaries exchanged uncertain glances. Finally, the leader stepped forward and cupped his fists towards Mo Yu. "Young man, our leader invites you to our Berserk Lion Mercenary Group headquarters for a discussion."
Yesterday, not only had the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group lost three of their leaders and dozens of members, but they had also lost a valuable treasure. And all of it seemed to be tied to the Mountain Demon Mercenary Group.
Mo Yu's appearance in the town the previous night with the daughter of the Mountain Demon Mercenary Group's leader naturally aroused the suspicions of the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group's leadership.
Their original orders were to capture Mo Yu and bring him back for interrogation. But after witnessing his method of slaying magical beasts with terrifying thunder strikes, their confidence waned. Thus, they opted for a more diplomatic approach.
Their plan was to lure Mo Yu back to their headquarters, where they could complete their mission.
Hearing their words, Mo Yu let out a cold laugh. It was obvious that this so-called 'invitation' carried ill intentions—especially since he did, in fact, have the Earthcore Soul Fruit in his possession.
"Thank your leader for the invitation, but I have other matters to attend to. I'll take my leave now." Mo Yu declined outright and continued deeper into the mountain range with Qing Lin.
Seeing this, the mercenaries exchanged glances, then their expressions hardened as they drew their weapons, chasing after Mo Yu with a menacing air.
The fact that they had joined the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group indicated they were not without some ability. The faint scent of blood that clung to them showed they were seasoned fighters, accustomed to dancing on the edge of death.
Though Mo Yu had demonstrated impressive power, failure would result in severe punishment upon their return. Rather than face that, they decided to take their chances and fight—surely, a few of them together could handle a lone youth.
Sensing the murderous intent behind him, Mo Yu's lips curled into a sneer.
"You choose to walk into hell even when a path to heaven lies before you," he muttered.
A few low-tier Dou Zhe were nothing to him—let alone the Berserk Lion Mercenary Group's leader, even if he showed up in person.
Without so much as turning around, crimson thunder flames appeared in Mo Yu's hand, summoned by his soul's control, and shot towards the mercenaries behind him.
To the mercenaries' eyes, a blazing crimson thunderstorm erupted from Mo Yu's figure, sweeping toward them like a wildfire.
The thunder flashed across the sky, sending a paralyzing jolt through their bodies, while a strong sense of impending death surged in their hearts.
In the forest, the mercenaries' sinister expressions melted away, their faces contorting with terror. They gasped for air like ducks with their necks cut, the killing intent in their eyes turning into fear as they looked at Mo Yu with a horror reserved for seeing a devil.
Mo Yu's footsteps didn't falter. With a thought, several crimson bolts shot forth, landing gently on the mercenaries.
"Boom!"
A series of muffled explosions rang out, and under the immense pressure of the thunder, the mercenaries were instantly reduced to blackened corpses, lifeless on the ground.
Mo Yu's expression remained indifferent as he dealt with the mercenaries effortlessly. The Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder then returned to his body.
"Qing Lin, can you sense where that strange feeling from last night came from?" Mo Yu asked as they continued deeper into the mountains.
Although he had Liu Ye's map, navigating such a vast area proved challenging. If the Ten Thousand Beast Flame truly had a connection with the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King, he would have to proceed with caution.
Qing Lin paused, realizing Mo Yu's intention. A serious look crossed her young face.
"I can try, Young Master." She focused, recalling the sensation from the previous night, then pointed towards the western direction. "Young Master, it's over there."
Hearing this, Mo Yu's expression turned serious as he suppressed his aura and looked westward. According to Qing Lin's sensing, the Black Lizard Demon Serpent King, a powerful sixth-tier magical beast, comparable to the Amethyst Winged Lion King, could be lurking there.
With things as they were, Mo Yu could only brace himself and proceed.
"Let's go, Qing Lin. Stay close to me," Mo Yu instructed sternly.
"Yes, Young Master." Understanding the gravity of the situation, Qing Lin's face showed a hint of nervousness. But she found comfort in the calm aura emanating from Mo Yu.
Keeping their presence hidden, the two moved cautiously westward under Qing Lin's guidance.
As afternoon approached, after traveling countless kilometers, they drew closer to the location Qing Lin had sensed.
"Young Master, we've arrived. This is the place." Qing Lin's voice broke the silence as they came to a halt.
Mo Yu paused and surveyed the surrounding flat terrain. It didn't seem like a place that would hide a Heavenly Flame.
"Something's not right." Just as doubt crept into his mind, his gaze landed on a patch of weeds about ten meters ahead. There was an odd feeling emanating from that spot.
Without hesitation, Mo Yu flicked his fingers, sending a bolt of thunder fire onto the weeds.
The flames met the dry brush, igniting instantly and reducing it to ash.
Simultaneously, a pitch-black underground entrance revealed itself before their eyes.
Mo Yu and Qing Lin exchanged a look, excitement shining in their eyes as they hurried forward. The opening was about two meters wide, engulfed in darkness, with faint waves of heat rising from within.
Seeing this, Mo Yu patted Qing Lin on the head, a smile tugging at his lips. "Good job, little one!"
Feeling Mo Yu's approving gaze, Qing Lin's cheeks flushed with a bit of shyness, and she playfully winked back at him.
Seeing her cheerful smile, Mo Yu's expression softened into a warm smile of his own.
He slowly approached the dark entrance, turning his palm to reveal a Moonstone, which glowed softly in his hand.
Staring into the darkness below, Mo Yu's face grew serious. "Let's hope we get something worthwhile this time."
